This time of year is usually associated with flowers, sweets, and love filling the air! This year, Valentine’s Day feels extra sweet to me because this will be the first Valentine’s that Carson and I will share as husband and wife. Speaking of husband and wife, inside this issue you can get all the details of our October wedding, including some of the best vendors in the CSRA! With special thanks to Lisa Hankal, owner of The Pine House and Hankal Events, our day was truly magical! Lisa’s passion for planning weddings is evident with her attention to detail, problem solving skills, and the way she cares for her brides. If you’re planning on gifting a loved one flowers this Valentine’s Day, you’ll want to check out our guide on how to create the perfect bouquet. Kimberly Walden Founder/CEO, GLM2 Foundation, Inc. GLM2 is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) that provides safe dwelling places and long-term aftercare for women and their children who have been affected by sex trafficking and domestic violence. Kimberly launched this multi-dimensional program into the community in 2019. "We have the opportunity to transform the lives of those who have experienced heinous crimes against humanity," she shares. GLM2 comes alongside survivors, for a minimum of two years/ maximum five years, and assists them in rebuilding their lives by providing housing, employment, transportation, medical, trauma informed counseling, education, etc. "Our 'lane' is long-term and we are grateful to our donors and community partners who help us sustain the healing environment necessary to reestablish the family bond and give our participants a success plan for life."

Renita Carroll Director of Community Resources, Shepeard Community Blood Center “When someone donates with Shepeard Community Blood Center, the blood products quickly go to our local hospitals to help patients in need,” says Renita. A single blood donation can help save up to three local lives. Shepeard Community Blood Center is in need of donors of all blood types. Another way the community can help is by hosting a blood drive. “We have our bloodmoblie that we can bring on location, or we can set up inside local businesses,” says Renita.

Yannik Mckie Pastor and Founder, Chosen Church, Executive Director of Living in Purpose & Ceo of Purpose Fueled Leaders, Author, Living In Purpose “I lost both my parents to AIDS before I turned sixteen. That pain caused a lot of turmoil initially, not knowing how to navigate that level of tragedy at such a young age sent me sideways,” says Yannik. “I always say, pain took me away from God, but pain brought me back to Him. What I know now is that a loving God does allow pain but when you trust Him, that pain transforms into purpose.” When Yannik moved to Augusta, from Atlanta, he helped to establish a free after-school program for at-risk youth, Men in Training (mentor program for young men), several youth conferences for youth and young adults in the community, and Yannik is currently refurbishing a 6,000 square ft. community center he calls the Purpose Center! In 2017, Yannik founded Chosen Church, where they have become one of the fastest growing churches in the CSRA.

Reverend Charlie DeLoach President, Wounded Warrior Retreat The Wounded Warrior Retreat is a nonprofit 501(C)3 organization which provides a peaceful place of respite for wounded veterans. “We minister to the wounded veterans, bring the warriors out, and let them hunt, fish, and golf,” says Charlie. All of the lodging, food, and activities are provided and the veterans can enjoy the event or just come out and relax. “We’re making a difference in not only the warriors’ lives, but their families also,” says Charlie. “They are not alone and they are not forgotten.”

Our Editor shares the details of her dream wedding

Since I was a little girl I have always imagined and planned my dream wedding. When I was five, I colored what I wanted it to look like. Everything was the perfect shade of light pink, even my dress! Now that I’m twenty-one, my dream wedding looks a little different, although I still found a way to incorporate pink. My husband, Carson Hall, and I have been dating since we were teenagers and have been planning our future together since the beginning of our relationship. On November 6th, 2021, he asked

me to be his wife. He took me to our piece of property saying that he had found where he wanted to build our forever home. He blindfolded me and guided me to the creek where he had a campfire with candles, blankets, tiki torches, s’mores, and a sign that said “will you marry me?”. In my teen years, I occasionally worked at a wedding venue near my home and through that I met many amazing wedding vendors. One of them is Lisa Hankal of Hankal Events. She’s been planning

weddings for over ten years and I knew that I wanted her to plan mine. While going over wedding details she told me that she had just bought a wedding venue, The Pine House in Trenton, SC. Carson and I visited for a tour and instantly fell in love with it! It’s a beautiful historic home surrounded by peach trees and one of my favorite parts is the herringbone brick aisle! worked with Aurora Adeleigh and loved their photography style. The husband and wife duo, Justin and Callie Cook, captured our day beautifully and were so much fun to work with. One thing I’m known for is being crafty. I love to learn and create new things. So, for our decorations, I wanted something personal. I decided to paint and distress mason jars and use them as flower vases on all the tables. The florals were all silk flowers and my family and friends helped me assemble them into bouquets (memories I’ll never forget). My favorite part about the flowers was being able to design and create my own bouquet and knowing that it will last forever. A very special part about my bouquet is where I tucked little blue flowers throughout it. Baby blue was my late grandma’s favorite color and it was very meaningful to me to have a part of her with me that day. Our ceremony took place on the front lawn of the Pine House and our wedding party consisted of ten people, including Carson and I. Steve Hartman was our officiant, he is the Pastor at Kiokee Baptist Church, where I have attended my entire life. After we exchanged our vows, we walked together for the first time as husband and wife while our guests showered us with delicate bubbles. It truly was magical. For our first dance, Carson and I swayed to Forever Girl by Jon Langston, the song he played when he proposed to me. For favors, everyone received a bag with the ingredients to make s’mores and we had a photo booth where everyone could take home photos. Southeastern Exposure is a 1974 Winnebago camper that has been remodeled into a photo booth. It was a big hit! Not only did guests get to take their pictures, they also were able to leave a copy for us along with a message in a guest book. Our wedding cake was four tiers and had three flavors, vanilla, strawberry, and lemon. It was decorated with textured white icing and florals. To accommodate my food allergies, Sinless Sweets created the cake dairy and gluten free. The groom's cake was inspired by my husband's love for woodworking. His family owns Joe Easler Cabinet Shop, originally started by his late grandfather, where he learned his carpentry skills. UBU Bakes made a delicious chocolate cake with buttercream frosting to look like the trunk of a tree. Our wedding truly was magical and the best day ever thanks to our amazing vendors! Many memories were made that I will never forget.

Follow our five tips for transforming and elevating your closet as you Spring clean and declutter for a more peaceful, inspired space you absolutely love. A sneak peek inside the closet of active mom and entrepreneur Keri Tarantino of Leawood, KS reveals a dressing room that rivals celebrity homes in Beverly Hills. But it didn’t come easily. Keri painstakingly planned, designed and curated the space with care. When we first stepped inside, we gasped as our eyes beheld the glory. No detail went unnoticed in this dreamy dressing room. Here are some guiding principles that can be drawn from her exquisite taste and vision. How you organize your closet will of course differ based on the size of your space, the size of your wardrobe, and the kind of life you lead. USE R EAL ESTATE W ISELY Reserve the front and middle of the closet for clothes worn most often. Group clothes by kind first and color second. This ensures quick location of that favorite shirt when it’s needed. Bonus - it’s easy on the eye. Group like with like: Gather belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (e.g., hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a bureau). Working with groupings will help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.

Michelle wondered if she could make it herself. She started making the mixers from her home for her neighborhood and it all started there. Now, Sugar & Spice is sold in many shops throughout the CSRA. Her mixers are made with no preservatives and use locally sourced produce. You can buy the mixers in quart jars or in single serve pouches.

INGREDIENTS • 2 parts Raspberry Margarita Sugar & Spice Cocktail Mixer • 1 part tequila

DIRECTIONS 1. Sugar and salt the rim of the glass. 2. Combine Mixer and tequila. 3. Garnish with raspberries and lime.
