Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers spent are often not filled with constant activities and trips, but are those that reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the “lazy days of summer” isn’t always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures that remind us of our own childhoods. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue with friends, making s’mores by a fire pit, spending a day on the water, eating ice-cream on a hot summer day, or simply taking in the night sky with someone you love. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the happenings around our city this summer and ways to get out and explore together. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the many things our city offers during these hot days of summer and that you make memories with those around you that you love.

BUBBLES OR NOT DIVING EQUIPS AND TRAINS DIVERS TO EXPLORE THE AMAZING UNDERWATER WORLD

UNDERWATER ADVENTURES Rose Bennett’s love of diving began when her late husband, Bob, introduced her to the exciting underwater world over twenty years ago while they were stationed with the US Army in Hawaii. “My husband was actually a scuba instructor and he used to tell me all the amazing things he was seeing in the ocean in Hawaii,” shares Rose, owner of Bubbles or Not Diving. “During that time, my son and I would watch him teach scuba classes every weekend. I would observe and then, I progressed with him through scuba diving.” Over time, Rose became a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) master diver. Bob and Rose opened Bubbles or Not Diving in June 2016 after the idea came up over lunch one day. In 2021, Bob passed away unexpectedly and now Rose carries on their dream of sharing the passion for diving with others. “Diving is transformational,” says Rose. “I love the fact that I'm able to help people dive and experience the adventure. A lot of people are apprehensive because it's something new and different. But it's so rewarding when you see the joy on their faces.” Bubbles or Not Diving serves as a onestop shop for all things diving-related by offering beginner classes, continuing education training for specialty certifications, and diving gear for purchase or rental.
Staff at the shop can also service gear sold through the shop. For beginners, the shop offers a Discover Scuba course designed to give an introduction to diving and gear, which takes approximately two hours. For those ready to take the next step, the Open Water Diver Certification takes place over three days and includes both pool training and dives in open water locations. Divers who have been out of the water for a while will find the Reactivate course especially helpful as it provides a two-hour refresher on important dive practices. Courses are taught by a staff of PADI certified instructors. Once divers earn certification, they can join in on one of the many small-group diving excursions offered through Bubbles or Not Diving that range from local to exotic locations, including swimming with sharks at the Georgia Aquarium, exploring the underwater astronaut trainer at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, and a trip to the Moalboal peninsula in the Philippines. “We usually take a small group because we always want it to be more personal,” shares Rose. “We want people to have a good time and a good experience making memories.” In addition to sharing her passion for diving with others, Rose believes in giving back to the community. Last spring, the shop

hosted an Earth Day celebration and mobilized over sixty volunteers to clean up the community. She also arranges dives that bring awareness to special causes as well. “The other event that I'm doing right now is actually taking a group of women divers to Grand Cayman to dive and support a fellow female dive shop owner and raise money for cancer awareness,” shares Rose. “So, it's a very unique shop and we're not just about diving, but also supporting the community.” Bubbles or Not Diving is located at 211 N Louisville Street in Harlem, GA. Developing relationships and establishing friendships serve as an essential part of calling a community home. Born out of a desire to foster community relationships, Susan Salisbury, top selling agent with Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate Company, frequently offers clients a variety of opportunities to connect with others. She does this through fun and engaging activities such as a yearly gratitude party, outings to Augusta GreenJackets baseball games, and more. Susan also serves as Past President and Activity Coordinator for the Augusta Area Newcomers Club, which is currently celebrating fifty years of helping new residents and others fully enjoy all the area has to offer. “The Augusta Area Newcomers Club welcomes residents new to the area or those who have recently experienced lifestyle changes such as retirement, moving to a different neighborhood in town, or are simply looking to make new friends,” says Susan. “There are many activities to benefit people including monthly movies, games, hiking, yoga, and book clubs. We also have a charitable arm of our organization which encourages giving back to the community. Our charity this year is the Augusta Training Shop and we presented the organization with a sizable donation during our May meeting.” Earlier this summer, Susan invited her real estate clients and members of the Augusta Area Newcomers Club to a special Downton Abbey luncheon and movie event. “On Friday, May 20,
we had a Downton Abbey English-French luncheon at Jones Creek Clubhouse. Then we went as a group to see the movie premiere of Downton Abbey: A New Era at the River Watch cinema,” shares Susan. “The movie takes place in England, but one of the characters inherited a chateau in the south of France. So that's why the luncheon was English and French themed.” “Jones Creek Clubhouse did an excellent job with the catering. We enjoyed a very nice lunch that included crudités with a béchamel sauce, battered fish, apricot chicken, salad, scalloped potatoes, pea mash, and roasted vegetables,” says Susan. “For dessert, there were madeleines and macaroons, both French desserts.” Participants enhanced the experience by dressing in time-period costumes. Monica Dainer won best costume in her green flapper dress and Marian Sumrell won second place in an elegant Edwardian outfit with opera-length pearls. This fun gathering serves as an example of the wonderful opportunities Susan Salisbury and the Augusta Newcomers Club offer to local residents. If you own a Ford Bronco, you know it’s not just some car. Not only are they comfortable to drive on the road, they offer the power it takes to go off-road. Ben Young and his fiancée Heather Kent started the CSRA Bronco Club in January earlier this year. They wanted to meet and network with other Bronco owners in the area. Once a month, the group gets together to show off their Broncos. “It’s a fun community to be a part of,” Ben shares.

Ben and Heather say that they love the experience of owning a Bronco. “They are fun to drive and have a lot of capabilities off the road,” says Heather. Ben and Heather currently have a 2021 Bronco Sport Big Bend and a 1988 Eddie Bauer Edition and have ordered a 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend that will be delivered this fall. They enjoy riding trails with friends and have even won awards at shows with their Bronco. All Bronco owners are welcome to join the CSRA Bronco Club. If you own a Ford Bronco and would like to join the group and meet other Bronco owners, find the CSRA Broncos Facebook group online. Members are encouraged to share photos of their Broncos and invite others.
