Our May issue is dedicated to celebrating the women in our lives. As I reflect on the many women in my life, I am thankful for each one and the impact they have made. One of the best qualities a woman can possess is having confidence with oneself, but at the same time being able to see the beauty and talent in other women and call out greatness in them, too. Women celebrating women and encouraging each other to succeed rather than competing with each other is so beautiful and rewarding. Encouraging and empowering the people in our own life can be something that comes naturally to do, but the impact of intentionally looking for ways to build up those in our greater community is so powerful. We all want to be seen, and when we share encouragement and consideration to those around us, barriers break down and warmth follows. In this month’s issue we are sharing stories of women who have made their mark in our community in one way or another. In a world that thrives on competition, let’s take time to encourage each other, appreciate the beauty in everyone and lift each other up, perhaps even a stranger. I also encourage you to take time to reflect on the inspirational women in your own life and reach out to them to thank them for their impact on your life. You won’t regret it.

In 1977, father/son duo John and Aaron Clements founded C & C Automotive. Fortyfive years later, Aaron’s daughter, Amanda Drake, carries on the family legacy as she serves as co-owner/district manager/president of C & C Automotive. At a young age, Amanda began working at the original shop doing odd jobs and at age sixteen, she started working in the office. Amanda attended Augusta University, where she earned a degree in biology with a minor in business followed by a Master of Business Administration degree, which gives her a distinct skill set to run the business side of the operation. Since joining her father as co-owner, C & C Automotive has expanded to five locations with hopes to open more locations in the future. Amanda splits her work week among four of the locations, with her dad overseeing all the operations at the downtown Augusta location. “I'm doing weekly audits of operations and making sure the shops run smoothly by checking parts inventories, reporting, and repair orders,” explains Amanda. “I'm talking to the managers and checking in with employees; sometimes helping at a shop if they are shorthanded. I really enjoy the people aspect of my job because I enjoy helping customers with their car, getting to know our employees and helping them meet their goals, and interacting with people at networking events.” “I also oversee the on-going projects at each shop because we constantly reinvest in our business,” she adds. “We might need a piece of equipment here or another lift there. We also try to have state-of-the-art equipment in all our shops and are one of the few businesses that invest in all the major manufacturer scan tools, because we want to be able to do essentially the same things that the dealerships can do.” When it comes to being a woman in a predominately male industry, Amanda says, “Our industry has changed so much in the

last ten to fifteen years. While it was challenging at one point, it has changed a lot and it's great to see that there are more women, even female technicians.” “As I proved myself by helping grow the business, I've received more and more respect from those with extreme technical knowledge,” adds Amanda. “I know a fair amount about cars because I grew up in the industry and my father showed me the internals of an engine and how an engine works when I was only eight years old, but I've just never been out there working on cars as part of my career.” In her experience, Amanda believes women have something special to add in the business world. “From a business standpoint, I feel like women bring a great management leadership style to the industry,” says Amanda. “I would like to see women getting more involved on multiple levels in businesses that have traditionally been male dominated.” Amanda spends hours each week through her various networking and local service opportunities. She serves as a member of the Ambassador Committee with the Aiken County Chamber of Commerce, as a member of the local chapter of Business Networking Institute, and on the Events Planning Advisory Committee and co-chairs the Ambassador Committee with the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family camping and riding on the Motocross circuit while also making personal care and fitness a priority. After receiving her Master Cosmetologist license in 2015, Lisa Leanne began working in businesses that served large numbers of customers at one time, but something didn’t feel quite right. “I have always loved doing pedicures, manicures, and skincare, but I didn't like where I was working,” explains Lisa. “It felt like a fast-food restaurant….you were in and you were out. I really wanted to provide a service that was more personal and tailored to the client.” Earlier this year, Lisa opened Esthetics with Love to provide women with a unique, relaxing experience while getting in the essential manicures, pedicures, and facials. “For me, it's about the experience and it’s an act of love because my primary love language is acts of service,” shares Lisa. “I get so much fulfillment out of providing services for people and making people happy.” The spa-like experience begins the moment a client walks into the room, which has a calming, welcoming feel. “A lay down pedicure is more relaxing than going to a nail salon and sitting beside five other people getting their feet done,” says Lisa. “Here, you're in a private room; the lights are dim, and candles are burning.” The heated bed provides a cozy place to relax while starting with a foot soak in a luxurious hammered copper bowl to prepare the feet for the rest of the pedicure. After bolstering the client’s knees for comfort, Lisa’s process includes a foot massage using a peppermint Himalayan salt scrub, a hot towel wrap on the legs and feet, and ends with carefully applied polish that, under normal wear, lasts the four weeks until the next appointment. Lisa offers manicures and facials as well, with approximate times for the length of the various services on her website so that clients know what to expect. “I spend my time making sure your feet and hands look amazing,” she says. “I don't rush through any part of the service. I make sure that everything looks great and that takes time. It's truly a self-care experience.” Also available are group packages for a relaxing outing with friends. Welcome to The Pine House, a historic home in Trenton, SC built in the 1840s. Bart and Lisa Hankal, owners of The Pine House and Hankal Events, are a husband-and-wife team that have lovingly revitalized this beautiful home into a wedding venue while still keeping the history of the home intact. Over the past five years, Lisa has dreamt of owning her own wedding venue. “I wanted to take my wedding business to the next level. I’ve always passed by The Pine House when traveling and thought it was so beautiful. When it was listed for sale, I knew I wanted

to purchase it. The Lord opened all the doors and now here we are, venue owners,” says Lisa. As a wedding planner, Lisa has been making bride’s dreams come true for the past ten years. “I’m a mom of two boys; wedding planning is how I get my girl fix,” she shares. “I absolutely love what I do! I love the details and seeing it all come together. I love the bonds and friendships that I get to make with all of my brides and their families. I just enjoy the entire process. I don’t think you could do anything like this if you didn’t enjoy it,” says Lisa. CONTINUED >

“It was important to us to keep the integrity of the house. We didn’t want to change anything about it. It's absolutely beautiful and packed full of history,” says Lisa. Upon arriving at The Pine House, the first thing you will see is that the property is surrounded by peach and magnolia trees. “The peach trees look like cotton candy all around the house in the Spring and in the Fall the transition is absolutely gorgeous,” says Lisa. The front of the house, with six grand columns is where most ceremonies will take place. There is a beautiful herringbone brick aisle, a balcony that overlooks the property, and red glass panes surround the front door that were etched in Venice. When entering the main hall of The Pine House, you are greeted with a grand staircase, beautiful heart pine floors, and elegant chandeliers. On the main floor, there are three spacious rooms and a large prep kitchen. Tables and chairs can be set up inside for guests and in the main hall, a large ornate mirror hanging over an antique buffet is the perfect location for the wedding cake to be placed. The entire upstairs is reserved for the bride and her bridesmaids. The bride's dressing room is surrounded by elegant mirrors and offers substantial natural light perfect for getting ready. The bride has a king suite for her and the groom on wedding night and two additional bedrooms for bridesmaids. “Upstairs in each of the bedrooms, I decided to choose all white furniture because it feels very bridal to me. I love that the girls have the entire upper floor to themselves,” says Lisa. “The Little Pine House will be for the guys,” says Lisa. It also has three bedrooms, a game room, kitchen, and the Washington Room. Lisa wanted to incorporate elements of history in The Little Pine House while she was decorating. The Washington Room, named after George Washington, is painted a patriotic blue, has a leather seating area, a canvas of George Washington,

as well as a photo of the Daughters of the Revolution representing his visit. “We decided to add a little bit of history into that room because of the significance of George Washington coming through to visit The Pine House tavern in the mid 1700s,” says Lisa. In the game room, there is a pool table, 65” flat screen tv, and a built-in wet bar.
