YEAR-ROUND LAWN CARE KEEPING OUTDOOR SPACES CLEAN AND NEAT DURING EVERY SEASON In 2019, Nathan Napier stepped away from his full-time job as a teacher and opened Napier Lawn Care, a company that focuses on year-round lawn care and maintenance. Nathan explains that there are tasks to be done in late winter and early spring to prepare for the warmer months. “In terms of hedgerows and non-flowering plants, it’s time to prepare for the growing season so that the property stays up to speed and the growth doesn’t get so long that we can’t catch up later in the year,” says Nathan. “A lot of times, it buys the client time and keeps the area clean so they can concentrate on flowers and things in their outdoor space that they want to pay more attention to.” During cooler seasons, Nathan also focuses on other types of lawn care including removal of leaves, heavy pruning, refreshing of pine straw and mulch, and other upkeep tasks to keep everything neat and clean. However, Nathan recognizes that not every client needs the same services. “I

Kim Brown, owner of Merry Maids Augusta, shares pro tips to help you maximize the impact of Spring Cleaning your home.

TIP #1 FRESHEN UP THE KITCHEN A fresh, clean kitchen impacts the entire home. To freshen up the sink, Kim says, “Run hot water while pouring in equal parts of baking soda and white vinegar through the disposal. Follow with a few drops of blue Dawn Dishwashing soap to cut away any grease buildup. Sharpen the disposal blades by running cooler water and ice through it. For a fresh smell, grind a few slices of lemon, lime or orange, removing any seeds first.” To clean everything else in the kitchen, including counters and stainless-steel appliances, use a microfiber cloth and a solution of 2-3 drops of Dawn mixed with water.

TIP #2 SPRUCE UP THE LIVING ROOM The living room also deserves special attention. Kim says, “Start by pulling furniture away from the walls, vacuuming and dusting behind it. Make sure you dust air vents as well. Then, pull all of the furniture cushions off to vacuum underneath and in crevices. It’s always good to rotate and fluff cushions too.” To banish dust from your furniture, Kim suggests using a good microfiber cloth that is slightly damp instead of furniture polish, which can leave a build-up on furniture that actually attracts dust.

TIP #3 BRIGHTEN UP WINDOWS Brighten up your whole home by intentionally focusing on the windows. “Homeowners often forget about the inside of the window,” says Kim. “They dust the blinds or the shutters, but when the blinds are pulled up, the windows often have dust or a film on them.” Kim suggests cleaning the inside of the windows on a cloudy day to reduce streaks. “A good glass cleaner with a microfiber cloth works really well. Tomato Peach Burrata Salad YIELD: Serves 6

INGREDIENTS • A few big pinches of Kosher salt • Freshly ground black pepper • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or 2 teaspoons fresh oregano • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil • 2 large heirloom tomatoes or large plum tomatoes, or cherry tomatoes. (about 2 1/2 pounds total) • Two peaches • 8 ounces mozzarella pearls or small balls • 4 ounces burrata cheese • 1/4 cup torn fresh basil leaves plus additional whole leaves for garnish INSTRUCTIONS • Combine salt through olive oil. • Place the burrata cheese round on a platter. Arrange the tomatoes, peaches and mozzarella balls around cheese. • Drizzle with dressing from bowl. Sprinkle with more salt and pepper. Garnish with additional basil leaves and serve.

Hummus with Toppings YIELD: Serves 6-8

INGREDIENTS • Your favorite store-bought hummus, or make my recipe @ Lauren-Lane.com • Topping Options: 1 small zucchini or a few radishes, thinly sliced 1 cup cherry tomatoes, quartered 1 handful watercress or microgreens • Additional topping ideas: fresh basil, crumbled feta cheese, 1/2 cup toasted pine nuts or capers

INSTRUCTIONS • Place corn kernels into a bowl with the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine. • Taste, and re-season with salt, pepper, and vinegar to taste.

Steak with Chimichurri Sauce YIELD: Makes about 1 cup

INGREDIENTS • 1 cup (packed) fresh Italian parsley • 1/2 cup olive oil • 1/3 cup red wine vinegar • 1/4 cup (packed) fresh cilantro (optional) • 2 garlic cloves, peeled • 3/4 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin • 1/2 teaspoon salt STEAK • 1 ½-2 pounds flank steak, or steak of choice. INSTRUCTIONS • Place corn kernels into a bowl with the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine. • Make sauce: Puree all ingredients in processor. Transfer to bowl. (Can be made 2 hours ahead. Cover and let stand at room temperature.) • Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Sear steak for 6-8 minutes on each side until heavily browned on the outside and slightly pink in the middle. • Thinly slice steak across the grain and top with Chimichurri sauce.

Pitcher Vodka Lemonade YIELD: Makes six cocktails

INSTRUCTIONS • Spoon the hummus into a serving bowl. Using your spoon, make a few swirls on the top. • In medium bowl, toss toppings together. Add a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss well to combine. • Drizzle hummus with olive oil and top with the dressed toppings. • Serve with pita chips and/or veggies for dipping.

Grilled Corn Salad YIELD: Serves 4-6

INGREDIENTS • 2 ears corn, grilled and cut from the cob • 1 small shallot, thinly sliced into rings • 1/4 cup fresh feta or goat cheese, crumbled • 3 sprigs basil, leaves removed and torn • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar • Black pepper to taste • Jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional)

INGREDIENTS • 48 ounces homemade lemonade (or store-bought) • 12 ounces vodka • Ice, for serving • 1 lemon, sliced thinly • Fresh mint for garnish INSTRUCTIONS • Make the lemonade or pour store-bought in a pitcher. • Add vodka and lemon slices (can be made the day before). • To serve: pour cocktail over ice and garnish with fresh mint.

CITY LIFESTYLE: SHARE WITH US YOUR BACKGROUND AND THE INFLUENCE IT HAD ON YOUR JOURNEY TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY. DAPHNE OZ: I was born in Philly, raised in New Jersey, and now

my husband and our four kids and I live in Florida. I spend a few days each week working in NYC taping our new syndicated talk show, The Good Dish, covering everything delicious in daytime.

CL: WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR HOSTING A MEMORABLE DINNER PARTY AT HOME? DO: When I entertain, my general approach is: Abundant

Simplicity. Appetizers are generous piles of a few different things – olives, hunks of parmesan, spiced nuts, torn bread with herby oil to dunk in, sliced Persian cucumbers with a pool of labne or Greek yogurt, olive oil, and flaky salt for dipping. I look for recipes that are simple or that I’ve made 100 times before that are always crowd pleasers and leave me plenty of time to enjoy my company.
