Sweet Treat Table Surprise your children with a sweet treat table. Keep it simple with a few favorite snacks and candies, or for a more extravagant display, use fresh flowers and create a handmade centerpiece. To achieve this look, start by placing the largest greenery on the bottom layer in a circle around the table. Next, layer varying types of greenery on top of the first layer in shorter widths to achieve the final look. Then add Valentine’s Day mini cupcakes, chocolate dipped Oreos, and Valentine’s Day cookies for an inviting sweet treat table. Valentine Tree To create this easy and eye-catching centerpiece, collect fallen branches and paint them white. We used a thrifted, repurposed white ceramic jar to assemble the branches in for the base. Use floral foam to stabilize the branches, and place moss at the top of the jar. You can use this homemade tree for any occasion as it’s sturdy, and just about anything can be hung on it. Valentine’s Day Ornaments Create heart ornaments to hang on your Valentine Tree Centerpiece. These ornaments can be used as clue

cards for a kids Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt. Instruct children to find their picture on the tree and hunt for the hidden treasure in the house. We used recycled shipping boxes to create the heart base and painted them red. We then used a hole punch to create a lace-like edge to complete the look.

CHEF JASPER MIRABILE JR. SHARES WITH US HOW TO MAKE THIS ROMANTIC DINNER FOR A DATE NIGHT IN

For this look, we decided to set the table in a non-traditional casual setting—the coffee table in the living room. Layer pillows and cozy blankets on the ground for comfortable seating. We used two layers of fabric for the runner, and added a handmade floral arrangement as the centerpiece. To achieve this look, use a two-layer serving tray and layer flowers and stems to adorn the tray. Add grapes or berries to give a fuller and textured look. For a romantic ambiance, add candle sticks, a bottle of wine and Billie Holiday playing in the background. For a no-hassle dinner, order out and serve your favorite takeout in the comfort of your own home. Or, if you like to cook together, Chef Jasper provided a go-to pasta recipe (page 19) perfect for a Valentine’s Day in.

Romantic Dinner For Two

Capelli d’Angelo alla Nanni INGREDIENTS • 8 oz. Barilla Capellini • 2 tsp. salted butter • 4 oz. prosciutto ham • 4 mushrooms, sliced thin • 12 oz. Jasper’s Marinara Sauce • 4 oz. heavy cream • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes • 4 oz. Romano cheese METHOD Cook pasta al dente according to package directions. Melt 2 tsp. butter in a saute pan over medium high heat. Add prosciutto and let it crisp, then add sliced mushrooms. Saute for 2 minutes. Stir in marinara sauce and cream, red pepper flakes, peas and Romano cheese. Bring to a light boil. Add cooked pasta and toss. Serve immediately. JASPER’S NOTES: Be careful to cook the pasta al dente as it can become soggy very quickly and soak up all of the sauce. My father loved canned peas and said they had more flavor than regular peas. Also, I add a little more red pepper because I like this dish to have a bit of spice. CONTINUED >

In the late 1960s, he ate this pasta in a restaurant in Italy and became intrigued with it, returning to the trattoria three nights in a row, trying to decipher the ingredients. While on the surface the recipe appears simple, believe me, it took many hours for my father to perfect this dish. When he returned home, he and my mother experimented with Jasper’s chefs until he said it was perfect. Customers requested the recipe for over 50 years, but my father would never give it out. PARNELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY JERI ANN BECKWORTH Every bride has an idea of what her perfect wedding day will be like and Katie Anderson McLemore, daughter of Georgia Senator Lee Anderson and his wife Donna, is no exception. The dream begins with the most important part…. the groom. Katie explains how she met her husband, Cory. “Three years ago, Cory and I were living separate lives,” says Katie. “We didn’t really know each other, but we were living the dark life of active addiction. Thankfully, God gave us a second chance.” Each walked their own path to full recovery, Katie through Augusta’s Hope House, where she now works as Financial Director, and Cory through The Hale Foundation, before they began a new life together.

Their October 30, 2021, wedding was filled with personal touches, beginning with the venue. “I always wanted to get married on my parent’s land where I grew up,” says Katie. “It’s the perfect setup with a pond for the background.” One of Katie’s best friends and bridesmaid, Courtney Wall, created a classic farm-style wedding. “One of my favorite parts of the wedding planning,” shares Katie, “was watching Courtney’s creations come to life.” Additional personal touches included Katie’s father walking her down the aisle and having an empty chair in the front row with a rose on it in honor of Cory’s mom who passed away last year. A group of family friends, who call themselves the Homer Crew, catered the reception with delicious barbeque favorites Katie remembers growing up eating.

As a party favor, Katie and Cory sent guests home with a piece of the farm. “We have a pear tree here on the farm and we have a pear tree at my other grandparents’ house,” explains Katie. “We picked pears, made pear relish using my grandmother’s recipe, and gave little jars of pair relish to everyone.” The evening culminated with fireworks. Katie and Cory truly cherish being able to share the day with those they love. “The past two years have been rough with COVID, so it was nice to have an outdoor event that everyone could feel safe coming to and enjoy each other.” Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. McLemore! When there is a correction (a drop of 10% or more), people generally stay on the sidelines or sell their stocks, fearing the market may collapse and stay lower—there have been over 100 corrections, usually about one per year, and they have all ended with a full recovery. Some of these corrections turn into bear markets, a drop of 20% or more, and all have ended with a full recovery. On the other end of the spectrum, many are worried about investing when the market is at an all time high. This is actually completely normal and happens about once every nineteen days—in other words, all the time! We aren’t surprised when a Hershey’s bar, box of cereal or ticket to Disney World costs more, but somehow are shocked when

the market hits an all time high. It’s normal, and inflation has a lot to do with it.” When looking for a financial advisor, find the right one by asking the right questions. “Most don’t realize that the vast majority of financial advisors don’t have to act in the client’s best interests. A minority of financial advisors are fiduciaries and operate under laws that share similarities with doctors and lawyers, meaning they do have to act in their client’s best interests. First, ask your advisor if they are registered as a broker or are dually registered. If they say yes to either, that means that part or all of the time, they don’t have to act in your best interests. There are thousands of advisors that will act in your best interest, so take the time to find one. Second, ask your advisor if their parent company, or the ownership of their parent company, own investment vehicles. If the answer is yes, don’t be surprised if some of those investment vehicles find their way into your portfolio. Essentially you may find yourself paying an advisor to then put you in a fund where the company collects another fee. There is no need to accept

this conflict. Find a fiduciary that is not dually registered and that does not own their own investment products. At that point, you at least have someone that is incented to act on your behalf all the time. From there, look for education, credentials and experience with people like you.” As for the future, it’s never looked brighter at Creative Planning. “It’s an exciting time—we can do more for our clients today than at any point in our history.
