For owner Kallie Schreibvogel, creating beautiful hair has always gone hand in hand with creating an experience that feels thoughtful, comfortable and genuinely personal. CONTINUED >

After 15 years behind the chair, Kallie knew she wanted to build a salon that reflected the relationships and creativity she loved most about the industry. Kallie says, “I’ve always loved that hairstyling is about so much more than hair. It’s one of the few careers where you get to be creative while building genuine relationships with people.” That philosophy became the foundation for Mint Salon, a three-chair boutique space designed to feel polished yet incredibly approachable. Rather than creating a large, fastpaced environment, Kallie envisioned something intimate, where clients could settle in, relax and receive individualized attention. According to Kallie, “I wanted Mint to feel like a breath of fresh air. Beautiful without being intimidating, luxurious without feeling stuffy, and warm from the moment you walk in. My goal has always been for people to feel comfortable enough to truly relax, knowing they’re in good hands.” Even the salon’s name reflects that goal. Inspired by the phrase “leaving you in mint condition,” it captures the feeling Kallie hopes clients take with them: refreshed, confident and cared for.

Kallie explains, “I’m excited to see people embracing healthier hair, softer color, and quality over high-maintenance trends. Hair is becoming more intentional, and I love helping clients achieve beautiful results while always prioritizing the health and integrity of their hair.” Mint’s intimate size also shapes the experience. With fewer chairs and less noise, appointments feel less hurried and more connected. Kallie shares the salon with Mallory Smith, a stylist with more than 20 years of experience specializing in blonding, extensions and holistic hair care. Together, they continue investing in education, bringing new techniques, products and best practices back to their clients while keeping healthy hair at the center of their work. For Kallie, Mint is also closely tied to the character of Olde Town Arvada. Surrounded by independent businesses and a strong sense of neighborhood connection, she sees the salon as one small piece of a larger local community. Kallie says, “Olde Town Arvada has such a unique sense of community, and I feel incredibly grateful to be a small part of it. There’s something special about being surrounded by other locally owned businesses that genuinely support one another.” Ultimately, Mint’s definition of style goes beyond a particular cut, color or trend. It is about creating something that feels like the person wearing it and an environment where that person feels known. Kallie shares, “At the end of the day, my goal has never been to build the biggest salon—it’s been to build one that feels intentional. A place where people can slow down, feel genuinely welcomed, and leave feeling like the best version of themselves.” For Kallie, the best style is never about chasing every trend. It is about creating a look that feels effortless, personal and true to the person wearing it. At ten years old, Anna Rose Bain got her first painting lesson from her grandfather, a World War II veteran who started painting in his seventies. She sold her first drawing at age twelve and as a college student, she realized painting was something she wanted to do full time. “I love that every painting is a new opportunity to learn and grow or explore subject matter,” says Anna. “Painting also often presents some kind of problem that I want to solve, whether that be lighting or a tricky composition.” Anna’s painting style can best be described as representational with elements of impressionism. “I paint objects to look like things as opposed to an abstract artist where you are just arranging shapes on a picture plane or canvas,” she explains. “Even though there are abstract elements in my paintings, in the end, you get a picture that someone can relate to because they recognize it as a landscape, a person, or kind of flower.” Although she creates all types of paintings, Anna specifically enjoys painting portraits, figures in the landscape, and flowers. One historical portrait she painted of Abraham Lincoln drafting his second inaugural address hangs in a Colorado charter school. Anna’s favorite subjects to paint, however, are women and children. “I’m always looking for ways to elevate motherhood and children as subject matter in fine art,” she says. “I feel that having women and children as subjects is often looked down upon or not taken as seriously as portraits of politicians or public figures. In my opinion, I feel that there is so much more that can be gleaned from a painting of a child and we can learn so much from children as subjects.” CONTINUED >

Two of her favorite people to paint are her son and daughter, whom she has been painting since they were newborns. In those paintings, Anna often intertwines elements from beloved children’s literature, adding an extra dimension for observers to explore. In A Child Will Lead Them, Anna incorporates themes from “The Chronicles of Narnia”. “It features my daughter in front of a lion, and she has stuffed animals scattered around her,” shares Anna. “It is like a rite of passage painting; she is rejecting the childish and embracing the grown up. But it also represents the passage from Isaiah where the lion will lie down with the lamb.”

“Who holds the Crown”, inspired by Anna’s trip to South Africa featuring her son Everett

Red Balloon, a painting of her son which was recently named Best in Show at the Colorado Governor’s Art Show & Sale, incorporates elements from the book “Goodnight Moon”. “Red Balloon is a painting of my son around the age where he was getting his medical diagnosis of high functioning autism, so it is a very personal painting,” shares Anna. “He is holding this red balloon and standing in front of massive hedges of hydrangeas. He is kind of detached from the red balloon, not really looking at it or paying attention to it, and it is almost like it could float away at any minute. That red balloon represents what we might consider normal childhood. The hydrangeas are like his complex, wonderful, amazing thoughts that none of us will ever know what they are, but they're beautiful and they are his.” CONTINUED >

Because Anna enjoys painting her kids and often uses them as subjects, people often ask if it is difficult for her to see the paintings go home with clients. “I'm happy to sell my work and I'm also happy to hang on to it,” she explains. “For me, it is really about the journey and the painting process. Then I can release the paintings to a special home somewhere else knowing that I created it with all of my love and heart. There is a piece of me in every single one of them.” Anna looks for inspiration in everyday life and Colorado supplies her with endless inspiration. “Colorado is such a wonderful place to live with so much beauty and sunshine,” says Anna. “In the summer, I work out a lot so that I can hike with my painting stuff out to the mountains and paint the landscape as well.” In addition to creating original paintings that include commissioned pieces, Anna teaches group painting workshops in her Arvada studio for adults interested in exploring oil painting. Workshops often follow themes

such as flowers, landscapes, or portraits. Last summer, Anna had the opportunity to lead an oil painting retreat in the La Marche region of Italy. “It was one of those experiences where you combine all the sensory experiences into one. We ate good food, saw gorgeous scenery, and took in the culture and history - then processed that through art and painting,” she shares. “All of my students came out of the experience feeling like it was the best trip they had ever been on.” For Anna, painting is more than a hobby or a career, it is a lifestyle she plans to enjoy as long as possible. “I process the world entirely through art making and it is so exciting to be able to travel and paint,” she says. “I tell people all the time I'm never going to retire because it is a job that you never get tired of.” To explore Anna’s work and find out more about commissioning a piece or joining a workshop, visit artworkbyannarose. com. When a shopping trip with a friend to High Country Western Wear in Arvada unexpectedly sparked a new idea in 2022, Cristine Magerowski had no idea she was about to discover the next chapter of her creative journey. Cristine tried on a Western hat for the first time that day and instantly loved it. As she admired the traditional horsehair hatbands on display in the store, her friend turned to her and said, “You should…” At the exact same time, they both finished the sentence, “Make hat bands.” Cristine went home that day and made her first one. That first hat band was the beginning of Rose Rust, a handcrafted luxury brand known for jewelry, hat accessories, and now fragrance. Growing up on the East Coast with a roll-top desk overflowing with craft supplies, glitter, and beads, Cristine was always creating something with her hands and that creative side of her never left. After moving to Colorado in the late 1990s, Cristine began making handcrafted jewelry, including hand-hammered brass cuffs that remain a part of her collection today. Every piece from Rose Rust is built with a focus on quality and is handcrafted in Arvada by Cristine using carefully selected natural stones, metals, and premium materials. She oversees every aspect of the business, from design to customer service, ensuring her commitment to quality never wavers.

“Rose Rust is rustic luxury,” she says. Cristine finds inspiration all over. Sometimes from Colorado’s landscapes and textures, other times, it’s while she’s fulfilling orders with a Hallmark movie playing in the background. One afternoon, a movie about a woman traveling to Europe to recreate her grandfather’s signature perfume caught her attention. “I thought to myself, Rose Rust needs a perfume,” and so she created that as well. Partnering with a fragrance expert on the East Coast, Cristine brought Western Velvet to life, an all-natural fragrance made with high-quality ingredients. “It has a beautiful, bright, yet woodsy scent”. Today, Rose Rust can be found in 27 boutiques across the country, including Yellowstone Club Outfitters in Montana. Seeing photos from wholesale partners of happy customers wearing her creations never gets old. “For people to wear my pieces as a part of their aesthetic and their expression of their style is just so amazing to me,” she says. To Cristine, success isn’t measured by how big the business becomes. “It’s feeling good about the product I’m putting out into the world while making sure I still have time for the people I love.” For her, protecting time with her husband, three children, and church community will always remain her priority. Above all, she hopes her children learn that it’s possible to build a life around doing what you love. “There is always an opportunity to find your own niche,” she says. “Be open to trying new things, even if you fail. This whole journey has been a God thing, and I’m so grateful for it.” What started with trying on one Western Hat has grown into a business that reflects Cristine’s creativity, craftsmanship, and willingness to try something new. What began as a hobby of capturing special moments with her own family has grown into a passion project for Jess Perry. “It’s wonderful to have a nice picture to remember all the special things of life because we think we will never forget that moment, but then we do,” she shares. Through Jess Perry Life in Photos, Jess specializes in preserving life’s key milestones for couples, families, and individuals as well as helping business owners share their passion through branding. “I love capturing those different chapters and the in-between moments,” she says.
