The Foodie Issue
My Fellow Foodies,
It’s an absolute pleasure to share my love for local cuisine with you all! While my first thought is always tacos, tacos, tacos, there’s so much more out there to explore. Let me guide you through a few of my favorite local spots.
Tacos:

Teocalli offers a unique twist on tacos, elevating them beyond the typical street fare with bold, unexpected flavors. If you're craving authentic street tacos, go to 80th & Federal, then head south on Federal. You’ll find a lineup of taco trucks, each offering something special, from unique meats and flavors to different shell types and salsa varieties. The green salsa is my personal favorite, but you truly can’t go wrong!
Pizza:
Pizza is often a controversial topic, but Bluegrass stands out for a great traditional local pie. For those who love deep-dish, Giordano’s at Freedom Street Social is a must-try. Their gooey cheese pulls and buttery crust are a delight for any pizza lover.
Thai:
Sanun Thai is my go-to for incredible chicken pad thai. The noodles are perfectly cooked, and they offer various heat levels to suit your spice tolerance. The medium heat option delivers a satisfying kick without being overwhelming, leaving each bite packed with flavor.
Indian:
Another gem is Spice Room, a newer addition to Arvada’s food scene, offering dishes rich in herbs and spices—perfect for a flavorful adventure.
Mediterranean:
For Mediterranean options, Cava in Olde Town is a personal favorite. Whether you grab a pita or build a bowl, the fresh ingredients and bold flavors make it a standout choice.
Venture out this month and explore our local options! There are many fantastic places within our community that I haven’t mentioned, like our bakery scene, steakhouses, and many, many more! Email me your favorite spots—I’m eager to hear your personal recommendations and feedback from your new ventures!
Enjoy!

Legendary Eats LOCAL MEATS,

Exploring the Bold Menu at Luke’s – A Steak Place
ARTICLE BY VALERIE BIANCULLI PHOTOGRAPHY BY RACHEL AUDETTE
Whether you are in search of a juicy steak, mouth-watering seafood, a delicious cocktail or a cozy farmhouse vibe… look no further than Luke’s. Luke’s – A Steak Place has been a beloved dining destination for nearly 30 years. Under the guidance of General Manager Keri Fox and Executive Chef Alfonso Aguirre, this iconic steakhouse has continued to delight guests with its unwavering commitment to quality, local ingredients, and exceptional service.

The menu showcases the best cuts of meat, all sourced locally from Colorado and Wyoming. “The 6 oz bacon-wrapped filet mignon, 16 oz prime ribeye and the peppercorn New York strip steak are probably our 3 most popular dishes,” says Keri. The latter, introduced at the beginning of summer, has quickly become a fan favorite. “The steak is rubbed with black peppercorns, grilled to perfection, and then topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions. It is definitely a dish that we see customers returning for,” boasts Keri.
While steak is the star of the show, Luke’s also offers a variety of menu items for those with dietary restrictions. Take their tropical shrimp, for example, that is fried to a crisp, served with rice and a tangy mango pineapple chutney. “Our gluten-free buffalo cauliflower is made with chickpea flour as opposed to all-purpose and tastes like a chicken wing but with the added benefit of being low in calories,” adds Keri. There is also a key lime honey chicken dish that adds a refreshing twist to the menu in addition to seafood options and hearty salads.
Complementing the food, the drink menu features enticing options such as Keri’s personal favorite, the Dirty Dill Martini that is comprised of gin or vodka shaken with olive juice, pickled asparagus and dill weed. Weekly specials such as Buy 1 Get 1 Free Tuesdays and Wine Wednesdays draw in crowds, while the weekly dinner-for-two special offers a complete meal at an incredible value. If you can’t make it to Luke’s for dinner, why not host your next event there? A banquet room is available that can accommodate 55 people and is sure to satisfy any crowd.

Local Restaurant Promoter From Restaurateur to

LARRY HERZ UNCOVERS CAPTIVATING STORIES AND DELICIOUS DISHES AT LOCAL RESTAURANTS

Photography by Joni Shrantz

A native of Long Island, New York, Larry Herz moved to the Denver area and opened his first restaurant in 1994. For almost thirty years, he owned several restaurants and thrived in the restaurant industry before deciding to take a step back and go in a different direction. Larry noticed a void in restaurant reviews, so about seven years ago he started a new adventure as a restaurant promoter. Now, Larry comes alongside locally owned restaurants to share their stories and food with the community.
“I know a lot about the restaurant business, and I wanted to help restaurants by creating something that actually puts people in seats of local restaurants,” he shared.
To do this, Larry uses social media and has hosted several shows throughout the years, including his current show on CBS called “Your Local Dish ” which airs every Friday afternoon.
“I'm always trying to highlight the people in the industry because I think those are interesting stories and they are people who rarely get recognized,” said Larry. “I truly love meeting restaurant owners, and I always do a pre-interview with them before I eat their food to find out their story, what motivates them, and how I can help them.”
With numerous locally owned restaurants closing each week and new out-of-state chain restaurants taking their places, Larry sees firsthand the need to support local.

GB Fish & Chips

“I was an independent restaurant owner, and although chain restaurants have their place, I don’t promote chain restaurants,” he explained. “I want the money to stay in our community so I’m doing what I can to try and save as many local restaurants as possible. That’s what OCN stands for, Our Community Now.”
Larry promotes restaurants all over the metro area and enjoys the opportunity to spotlight Arvada restaurants. A handful of Arvada restaurants stand out in his memory.
“Randi’s Pizza made me so happy; the food was so good, and it reminded me of the neighborhood pizza shops I grew up eating at on Long Island. GB Fish & Chips is in an old house and has this great British pub vibe. They specialize in fish and chips, and I think they do a fantastic job,” he shared. “Cochino is a fun, non-traditional Mexican restaurant. They make unique dishes, and my insider tip would be to get the pork shanks. They are to die for, which you wouldn't think of in a Mexican restaurant. And you can’t go to Olde Town and not visit Rheinlander Bakery. It’s been there at least fifty years and recently got new owners. When you go in there, you feel like you are in Europe and transported in time. They make fantastic gluten free pastries. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I walk in there.”
For more information and to follow Larry’s food adventures, visit 'http://www.ocneats.com/'.
Also follow @ocn_eats and @ocn_drinks on all major social media outlets, including numerous shows on YouTube.
