To The Incredible Men Who Raise Us!
Have you ever paused to think about the impact fathers have on their homes and families? The truth is, the role of a father is immeasurable. Fathers shape homes, nurture growth, and provide the foundation upon which children can thrive.

I am lucky to have an incredibly kind, steady, and humble father who taught me the importance of hard work, kindness, and the value of a family leg acy that spans generations. My dad has been farming his entire life on land that has been in our family for over a century. Celebrating 150 years of our family’s hard work truly puts things into perspective. The determination and willingness to meet each day with a good attitude, regardless of the challenges, is something I have always noticed and admired. Growing up, I spent most days I wasn’t in school at the farm with my dad. Watching him, my uncle, and my grandpa work side by side over the years, dedicating their lives to the farm taught me that you can make anything last if you truly want it to. It’s a lesson passed down by the men in our family, and one I’ll always be grateful for.
A father’s gifts are unique and lasting—his strength, his words, his guidance—all create an impact that ripples through generations. Here are just a few of the ways fathers build up their homes:
• A father’s strength can be a steady anchor.
• His words can encourage and inspire.
• A dad’s hugs can provide comfort in difficult times.
• A smile from a dad can instill joy and confidence.
• Time spent with a dad is filled with both fun and productivity.
• A dad’s physicality can challenge and excite.
• His guidance can be life-changing.
• A father’s correction is sometimes life-saving.
• Adventures with a dad create unforgettable memories.
This month, let’s celebrate fathers everywhere. If you have a father or father figure in your life, let them know how much they matter to you. And if you are a dad, thank you. You are an invaluable part of your family, your community, and the world.
Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads out there!

Living Life to the Fullest

A glimpse into the life and career of Rick Lewis, radio broadcaster and founder of the Rick Lewis Project
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL
As a teenager, Rick Lewis set out to be the best version of himself possible and made the commitment to do something daily to improve himself physically, mentally, or spiritually. He continues that commitment today, challenging himself to learn new things, take care of his health, and be open to what tomorrow brings.
Now a familiar voice to Bronco fans and Denver morning radio listeners, Rick’s career began when a college friend invited him to be a guest on a campus radio show. As an athlete aspiring to play professional football, Rick was surprised by how much he enjoyed being on the air.
“I went in there, he put me on the air, and I absolutely loved it to the point that I got my own show and switched my major to radio/TV,” remembers Rick. “It completely changed my trajectory in life.”
At twenty-one, Rick paused his college education and headed to Los Angeles in search of exciting career opportunities. Immediately, he got a job as a club DJ and began getting parts in television shows, movies, and commercials. In between gigs and auditions, Rick worked at a liquor store to make ends meet until the night he was robbed at gunpoint. That was a pivotal moment when Rick realized he needed to return to his roots … radio.
“I enrolled in Long Beach State; they had a great radio/ TV/ film department,” says Rick. “When I graduated, I got a job doing mornings in San Clemente, and within a year and a half, I was at the biggest rock station in LA. That reaffirmed to me that I’d made the right choice…this was my destiny.”
While in California, Rick met and married his wife, Dionne. “She’s the love of my life, my heart, and my rock,” shares Rick. “She’s been with me from the beginning and we’ve lived a lot of life on the radio – even the birth of our two daughters, Jordan and Rio. Not many women would put up with this kind of life.”
Rick and Dionne moved to Colorado, where his radio career exploded. “Colorado welcomed us with open arms and hearts and has been so good to us,” he says. “Everywhere I go, people come up to me and say, ‘I've been listening to you since the beginning.’ Sometimes there will be three generations of listeners - dad, son, and grandson - standing there in front of me and I can't believe it because it doesn't seem like I've been doing the show for that long. It just blows me away and I never take it for granted.”
Over the last thirty-five years, Rick has been the voice many listened to as they started their mornings and headed to work. “To me, radio is the best medium because you're painting a picture for your audience with your creativity and words,” he says. “Radio is such a personal medium, especially morning radio, because we become a big part of people’s morning routines.”
Connecting with listeners opened another opportunity for Rick. This time it merged his love of radio broadcasting with one of his favorite sports… football. “Ten years ago, our market president in Denver called me and said, ‘Ed McCaffrey can’t do the game on Sunday in Jacksonville, how would you like to do color Sunday?’ I said, ‘Are you kidding me? Yeah, I'll do it!’”

“We've been blessed to be able to open some big shows with this band - Sammy Hagar, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, and many others.”
The next year, Rick was asked to be color analyst for the Denver Broncos broadcast, something he has done for the last nine seasons. “Everything I’ve done in radio prepared me for this because this is, I think, the highest-level broadcast that you can do on radio,” shares Rick. “It's so fast-moving with so much information being processed. You have to communicate in a very precise way and in a tight window before it moves on to the next play. That’s why I love it; it’s very challenging.”
Over the years, Rick has branched out and enjoyed success in other areas outside of radio including standup comedy. “Anytime a door opened, I would always say yes,” explains Rick. “I did some standup comedy in LA, and when I moved to Denver and started doing the radio show there, my partner Michael Floorwax, who was a national touring comic, asked if I wanted to do some comedy shows with him. I said yes and we ended up doing ten years of comedy shows together.”
One night on tour the idea of starting a band took root in Rick’s mind. “We were doing shows in really big clubs, and we'd typically have a band who opened. After some time, I started sitting in with the band on drums before we did the comedy show. Playing a couple songs turned into four, five, or six songs. So, I told my partner that we should start our own band,” says Rick. “Due to the popularity of the radio show, we were able to attract the best musicians in Denver. Within the first six months of the band, we opened for the Doobie Brothers at Red Rocks.”
His current band, the Rick Lewis Project, was founded in 2013, and has a fanbase that continues to grow. “We've been blessed to be able to open some big shows with this bandSammy Hagar, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, and many others,” shares Rick. “It's been a heck of a run, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight right now, thankfully.”
CONTINUED >
Throughout his life, Rick has made it a point to take chances, live in the moment, and strive to always be better. When he looks back on key moments, he realizes that it all led to where he is today and he is loving every moment. “I remember one night in LA, pulling into a parking lot, looking up, and seeing the Hollywood sign then looking down at Sunset Boulevard. I thought to myself, ‘Man, Rick, you made it. You really made it.’ It was an incredible feeling. But when I look back at it now, I really hadn't made it…. I had a long way to go,” shares Rick. “As it turned out, that wasn't the pinnacle of my career; it was
just the beginning. Once I left the LA market and came to Colorado, the bar was raised considerably and the show in Colorado has been incredibly successful for a long time. Now that I’m calling the Broncos games, I'm one of thirty-two guys doing color in the National Football League. I feel like this is the pinnacle, right here. But I always believe there is more and the best is yet to come. My mantra in life is, good things are happening NOW.”

Rick Lewis
Rick Lewis has built a career in radio, music, and sports broadcasting. From his first college radio experience, he discovered a passion that led him from doing stand-up comedy in Los Angeles to Denver, where he became a radio host and the voice of the Broncos as their color analyst. Along the way, he formed the Rick Lewis Project, a band that has performed at iconic venues like Red Rocks. With the love and support of his family, his mantra remains the same “good things are happening NOW.”

PAINTING A BETTER COMMUNITY
ARTICLE BY KRISIT SELLERS PHOTOGRAPHY BY THE COLORADO PAINTING COMPANY
When people think of painting, they often picture fresh walls, curb appeal, and beautifully finished spaces. For Sam Manges, owner of The Colorado Painting Company, painting has become something much bigger. It is a way to serve, restore, and invest in the community he calls home.
While many already know Sam for the successful business he has built, his story goes well beyond residential and commercial projects. Through charitable work, historic preservation efforts, and educational outreach, Sam has quietly turned his trade into a tool for meaningful change.

According to Sam, “We love to make our presence known within the community so that we can help those in need. Being involved in helping is something we feel morally obligated to do in the community, especially to those that are unable to purchase services like ours.”
One of the most inspiring ways Sam gives back is through charitable painting projects for local businesses and organizations. Whether helping refresh a struggling storefront, donating labor for a nonprofit space, or lending his team’s expertise where budgets are tight, he understands that a new coat of paint can do more than transform a building.
“Recently, we did a volunteer project for Brewability, which is a brewery in Inglewood Colorado that provides jobs for the disabled or people with special needs. We recently painted their entire establishment free of charge to help them receive a fresh start for the upcoming summer. We truly value what they do in the community and who they are as people,” said Sam.
Sam also plays an important role in preserving local history through historic restoration work for the city. In a time when many communities are trying to balance growth with heritage, restoring older buildings and spaces carries special significance.
Perhaps one of his most lasting contributions is his commitment to teaching the next generation. Sam leads painting workshops at Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) that introduce young people to the trade, sharing techniques, discipline, and the value of skilled craftsmanship.
These workshops offer more than hands-on lessons. They show young people that trades can provide rewarding careers, entrepreneurship opportunities, and a sense of pride in creating something meaningful. By investing time

in others, Sam is helping preserve knowledge while opening doors for future painters, business owners, and craftsmen.
In every city, there are people whose contributions happen quietly, without fanfare. They improve neighborhoods, support local dreams, preserve history, and guide younger generations. Sam Manges is one of those people.
There is a lot on the horizon for The Colorado Painting Company. “We plan to continue our presence in the industry in the front range and throughout Colorado, ensuring that we can help the upcoming trades men and women through education and training. Also, we will continue to stay active within the community doing what we can to help. We also look forward to expanding our services to bathroom and kitchen remodels in the next year.”
When he’s not at The Colorado Painting Company or working on a community project, you can find Sam spending quality time with his family. They love to visit the zoo, take camping trips and try new restaurants.

SEAMLESS SERVICE SOLUTIONS

HEART HEATING, COOLING, PLUMBING, & ELECTRIC PROVIDES PREMIER SERVICE OPTIONS UNDER ONE COMPANY

“We’re here because of the trust the community has in us.”
As CEO of Heart Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, & Electric, Josh Charlton strives to create an environment where customer satisfaction is top priority. He also understands that this concept finds its foundations within the culture of a company. “I have a passion for making sure that people get what they need and get a service that is above expectations,” he shares. “I believe that when people want to come to work and like being there, that passes on to the people that they service on a daily basis.”
Cultivating such an environment begins with casting a clear vision. “Our core focus is helping people live with peace of mind by providing a premier customer experience for home services in the front range. Our core values are integrity, accountability, service, teamwork, and growth,” explains Josh. “That means we do what we say, tell the truth to our customers and to each other, even when it's a hard conversation to have, and we are going to own our results, no excuses.”

As a full-service company, Heart can service an entire home, covering plumbing, electrical, sewer, and HVAC needs. “So rather than having to find somebody else that you can trust in an industry that has such a high complaint rate, you know that you can trust us and that we're going to be there and we're going to be able to keep it all under one umbrella,” shares Josh.
In addition to taking excellent care of customers, the team at Heart prioritizes giving back to the community. “Every year, we participate in the Feel the Love Program based on nominations from the community of people in need,” says Josh. “Last year, we were able to provide a full HVAC system and a panel upgrade for a lady in her eighties, free to her.”
The company also participates in other outreach such as the annual Heart Walk sponsored by the American Heart Association, monthly community events, and a program to provide water heaters for veterans. “We're here because of the trust the community has in us, and we want to invest back into the community,” shares Josh. "We want people in the community to know that whatever it is, we want to be there for them because we care about them and the community.”

WHERE COMPETITION, COMMUNITY, AND CONFIDENCE TAKE AIM.
AMERICAN AXES
Tucked inside the lively atmosphere of American Axes, the sound of steel striking wood has become part of a growing movement centered on competition, connection, and community. What may seem like a trendy night-out activity has evolved into something much bigger for founder Dan Fisher and the American Axes team. It’s a place where people gather to challenge themselves, celebrate milestones, and create true experiences together.
What truly sets American Axes apart is the culture Dan has built around the business.
Founded originally in Georgia before expanding westward, American Axes was created with the idea that axe throwing should feel exciting but never intimidating.
Dan’s vision centered on creating a space where anyone, regardless of skill level, could walk in, learn something new, and leave feeling more confident than when they arrived.

“American Axes has some of the best coaches in the entire country. Our experience is not just handing over an axe and saying good luck, we genuinely care about the success of our customers and can quickly get people coached up on how to successfully throw an axe. Sometimes it’s immediately, sometimes it takes 5-10 minutes, but everyone who visits our store will know how to throw an axe when they walk out the door.” says Dan.
A focus on community has also helped American Axes become more than simply an entertainment venue. Competitive league nights and tournaments regularly bring together throwers from across the region, creating a tight-knit social scene. The company has embraced the growing world of competitive axe throwing while still maintaining an environment that feels welcoming to beginners and families alike.
According to Dan, “American Axes became an affiliate to the World Axe Throwing League in 2022 and debuted at the World Championship in 2024 with 8 throwers wearing our logo on their jersey. In just 3 years time, we went from 8 to 26 people which was the most of any Axe Throwing brand in the business. We believe our success is because of our culture. We want to put people first and make axe throwing affordable for those who love the sport and because of that, we have a lot of throwers that are hungry to get better.”
What began as a local entertainment venue has steadily evolved into a nationally recognized competitive presence. The growth of American Axes on the world stage reflects a strong sense of teamwork and community Dan and his staff have intentionally built within the organization.
“There are five disciplines that are played for the World Axe and Knife Throwing Championship and we ended up with a runner up finish, 5th place, 9th, 11th (x2) and many other top finishers. While we didn’t win a discipline, getting to the finals was a big step for our team and we look forward to the 2027 event where we again expect to bring more great throwers to the Championship.”
In an era dominated by screens and digital distractions, gathering around a wooden target with friends has become an unexpectedly meaningful form of connection and camaraderie.
“There have been various stories about how American Axes has helped people get through personal challenges mostly because we offered a consistent safe place for people to be comfortable and spend their free time. This was not written in the business plan, it just happened and it has been the happiest accident of our business.” says Dan.
What started as a niche concept has become a destination where Colorado residents and visitors alike can discover their inner lumberjack, one throw at a time.
You can contact American Axes Arvada at (983)456-9572 or visit their website at american-axes.com

AN EXCERPT FROM EPISODE 6 OF SHARE THE LIFESTYLE, A CITY LIFESTYLE PODCAST
Photographer: Brittany Dawn Short
Creative Director: Jen Birn
Stylist: Stephanie Coultress O’Neill
Location: Hotel Saint Cecilia, Austin, TX
MIKE JOHNSON HAS BUILT HIS LIFE AROUND ONE QUIETLY RADICAL IDEA: THE STANDARD YOU SET PRIVATELY IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS.
After eight years in the Air Force, a celebrated run on national television, and a health crisis abroad that sent him deep into supply chains and ingredient certifications most founders never touch, the result is Oshun — a luxury ritual brand built on provenance you can trace and integrity you can verify. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Mike shares what it actually takes to build something worth putting your name on. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full episode.
Q: YOU BECAME A FAN FAVORITE ON THE BACHELORETTE AND THEN LEFT THE SPOTLIGHT. YOU MOVED TO MEXICO, LEARNED SPANISH, THEN COSTA RICA, AND BUILT A COMPANY. WHAT DID THAT EXPERIENCE TEACH YOU ABOUT HUMAN BEHAVIOR?
A: “If you’re a good person going in, that shows. If you’re not, that shows too. I also learned that people form this parasocial relationship with you — they assume things about you. When in all actuality, different circumstances bring out different parts of who you are. I was on TV trying to find love. The kindness people were showing after felt a bit fake, because they wanted to be a part of something that isn’t who I am individually, but a part of what they saw on TV. And so I had to get away from everybody and everything and the noise.”

THE QUIET STANDARD:
MIKE JOHNSON

“Too many people have prayed for me. So I’ve got to get up and do the walking.”
— Mike Johnson

Q: YOU JOINED THE AIR FORCE RIGHT OUT OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE. WHAT WERE YOU ACTUALLY RUNNING TOWARD?
A: “There was something in me that was saying: I’m not living up to my full potential. I was being a follower. My uncle said, ‘What’s going to make you become an adult the fastest?’ I said, obviously, the military. The Air Force broadened my thought process more than anything. We’re so caught up in our own perception — when you learn to understand different people’s perspectives, it adds to you in so many ways.”
Q: WITH OSHUN, YOU OWN YOUR MANUFACTURING, YOU EMPLOY A CHEMIST, EVERY PRODUCT HAS A BATCH NUMBER TRACEABLE TO ITS ORIGIN DATE. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GO THAT DEEP WITH THE BRAND?
A: “The EU bans 1,100 ingredients in personal care products. The U.S. bans nine. That’s my starting point. Oftentimes, it might be the same ingredient, but it comes from a place where it doesn’t have the highest purity. And 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed. Every product Oshun makes carries a batch number that goes back to the exact day it was created — I can show you every single supplier, the date, the origin. I own more than one part of the supply chain because that’s the only way I can stand behind what’s in the bottle.”
This conversation is just the beginning. Mike goes deeper into why he’s buying land up north, the family in the Philippines who prayed over his factory floor, and what he’d tell every person ready to stop performing and start building. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
