To Summer and Exploring!
We live in a world that values productivity and efficiency, where every moment seems to be mapped out and planned. I’ll admit, I fall into this mindset sometimes too, thinking that the only worthwhile activities are those that can be measured, calculated, and optimized. But the truth is, a life that is too structured is missing something vital— space for exploration.
We need room for discovery, for trying new things, for being a beginner. Sometimes, it’s in those unplanned moments where connections are made, memories are created, and trust is built.

In recent months, I’ve been reflecting on how my family spends our time together. We’ve realized that our happiest moments often come when we step away from screens and routines. Our "adventures" don’t always involve grand trips—they could be as simple as playing a board game on the patio, trying out a new trail, or exploring a new part of town to find a quirky little café.
This issue is all about giving yourself permission to explore—whether it’s a spontaneous trip, a new hobby, or simply making time for those unstructured moments with the people you love.
Let’s make space for the unexpected and the unexplored, and remember that it’s often in these moments that the richest connections are formed.
Happy exploring!

ADVENTURE changes everything

LIFE TRANSFORMING EXPEDITIONS AND EXPERIENCES WITH DR. JON’S ADVENTURES
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL
PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED BY DR. JON’S ADVENTURES
As a kid growing up in Vail, Colorado, Dr. Jon Kedrowski observed more than just beautiful scenery; he saw the adventures and challenges that the surrounding mountains held. “I was a skier first, but I would look at mountains and wonder ‘how can I climb up this mountain to ski down’,” shares Jon. “I loved to go out with friends and family, drive trailheads, hike the mountains, and climb peaks.” Jon took his passion to the next level during graduate school, seeking new places to climb whenever the opportunity arose.
With each climb, Jon gained valuable experience and developed a wide range of mountaineering skills. While working as a Climbing Ranger at Mount Rainier National Park, Jon took part in ranger patrols and added rescue techniques to his growing resume of knowledge and skills.
Each trip challenged Jon physically and mentally, but the takeaways from those experiences proved impactful in the ways he approached everyday life. “I think it makes life easier when you come back to the real world because little things that might get to you just don't bother you anymore,” he explains. “We all have one thing in life that can be daunting; it could be dealing with a difficult child or coworker. If we choose to approach it with an open mind and change the thought process to realize you can enjoy seeing a problem solved, I think we’d all be better off.”
Jon wanted to introduce others to the concept of working to overcome challenges and the sense of accomplishment that brings. So, he began creating all-inclusive high-end mountaineering and wellness adventure trips. Through Dr. Jon's Adventures, he offers several recurring excursions, including trips to Mt. Everest in Nepal, Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, and Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Jon also specializes in customized excursions for groups that can be tailored to the group’s preferences and abilities.
CONTINUED >
Jon on the top of Mt. Everest. Reaching the summit is more than a climb, it's a testament to perseverance, grit, and the pursuit of extraordinary goals.

Although Jon enjoys leading excursions all over the world, one location is a particular favorite. “I love bringing people to Nepal because we take them to the Everest base camp and they get to see Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. It's hard just to hike to the base camp, and then when you get there, you realize that the climbers have to stay there for a month and try to climb this mountain that's 12,000 feet higher than the base camp,” says Jon. “There is an excitement and nervousness at base camp. It’s a challenge because of the 50% oxygen in the atmosphere, so it's hard to breathe. And yet, the clients who spend the night there are so excited to be there and watch what was going on.”
In preparation for trips, Jon provides coaching to ensure that clients enjoy the experience, even when it is challenging. He also uses that preparation and client experiences to illustrate his philosophy in approaching life. “Sometimes you have to accept and embrace being uncomfortable on some level in order to push forward and achieve. That’s the epitome of what I call an Everest-ready mindset,” he explains. “The Everest-ready mindset means that you live a lifestyle that lends itself to, for example, being able to just get off the couch at any given time and go to Everest and climb it, no problem. Having that lifestyle allows me to be Everest-ready for the moment.”
Jon explains how that translates to other areas of life outside of physical readiness. “If you're working in a job or career that is tough, but you choose to embrace some of the hard things that come up in that career or in that space, you can end up loving them,” he says. “You take challenges in life, and you make them fun versus dreading them.”
Through the years, Jon’s approach to adventures has continued to grow and evolve. “When I was younger, my attitude was ‘I'm going to go out and climb this mountain or that mountain - Look at me, how great I am,’” he says. “That has changed to being a teacher and coach with humility versus bravado. I want to inspire my clients by helping them realize that we're doing this to challenge and push ourselves, but we're not conquering anything; we're living in the moment, doing our best, and hopefully reaching the summit if the mountain lets us.”
In addition to leading excursions, Jon is an author and motivational speaker who enjoys leading groups through shared experiences, which helps them better relate with the concepts he presents. For more information and to connect with Jon, visit jonkedrowski.com plus follow @drjonkedski and @drjonsadventures on social media.

THE 19TH HOLE OF SUMMER
FADE IT GOLF & SOCIAL CLUB BRINGS FRIENDS AND COMMUNITY TOGETHER
ARTICLE BY KRISTI SELLERS
PHOTOGRAPHY BY FADE IT GOLF
& SOCIAL CLUB
For many golfers, the 18th hole isn't where the day ends. It's what comes afterward. The stories, the laughter, the friendly competition, and the time spent with friends reflecting on a round well played are just a few of the things. In Arvada, that spirit has found a home at Fade It Golf and Social Club, a gathering place that has quickly become the unofficial "19th Hole" of summer.

Owned by Coe Kunz and his wife, Magan, Fade It was built around a simple idea: create a place where people can come together, whether they are passionate golfers or simply looking for a fun night out. The result is a welcoming social hub that blends golf, entertainment, food, and community under one roof.
According to Magan, “We want people to feel like Fade It is their home away from home. The place where everyone knows their name, they belong, it's fun, it's chill, it's just where they need to be.”
While Fade It has become known for its state-of-the-art golf simulators, the atmosphere extends far beyond the game itself. Guests can enjoy food trucks, a spacious patio with fire pits and misting fans, pool tables, sports on big-screen televisions, and a calendar full of events that keep people coming back throughout the summer. Some professionals even use Fade It as their “second office”.
And don’t forget the daily 3-6pm Happy Hour.
“Fade It is the perfect place to get together with friends and family. Chill out on the patio or at the spacious granite topped bar. We can set up corn hole for a corn hole challenge on the patio or change up date-night with golf swings and drinks. Everyone is always moving at Fade It. Swinging golf clubs to swinging hips on Friday Nights,” says Magan.
The club's unique personality is rooted in Coe's lifelong relationship with golf. A former competitive golfer, Coe began playing at a young age, went on to compete at the collegiate level, and later spent years playing on professional

mini tours before becoming a respected golf instructor. Today, he holds the designation of PGTAA Master Teaching Professional and continues to share his passion for the game with golfers of all skill levels.
“We are a community driven small business. We are locally born and raised. We have seen the development and growth of Arvada and are passionate about sharing our love of Colorado and golf with everyone who comes into Fade It. The staff is given and chosen family and everyone who comes into Fade It quickly becomes “framily” (friend family). We could not exist and grow without the support of our close friends old and new. We are excited to continue this legacy and bring together more of the Arvada community,” says Magan.
This summer, while golfers may come for the simulators and sports fans may come for the games, many visitors discover something even better: a place to relax, connect, and enjoy the company of others. That's what the best 19th holes have always been about and it's exactly what Fade It Golf and Social Club has become.

A YEAR OF CELEBRATION
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY ARVADA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

EXPLORING THE EXCITING PROGRAMS AND EVENTS THE ARVADA HISTORICAL SOCIETY HAS PLANNED FOR ARVADA’S 250/150 CELEBRATION
A sense of excitement permeates the atmosphere in Arvada this year as the town celebrates 156 years alongside America’s 250th birthday. Leading the way in preserving Arvada’s past so that it can be appreciated and built upon in the future is the Arvada Historical Society.
“This organization has been around since 1972,” says Judith Denham, Arvada Historical Society Board Member and Past President. “Part of our organization's mission is to tell people about how this community developed historically and what it means now.”
Members of the Historical Society are excited to share important and fun details about Arvada’s founding, especially this year, and have special activities and experiences planned to coincide with the celebration. “As part of Colorado 150, and America 250 commemorations, the Historical Society is inviting residents to become part of the story through events and programs throughout the year.”
Among the year’s first events was the Historical Society’s June opening of the Allen House Archives Library, located at 11200 W 64th Avenue, where preserving and sharing Arvada’s history comes to life. “The Allen House is a historic home in Arvada that houses our archives, so it will be a community space where people can come to do research,” shares Arvada Historical Society Board Member Tammy Sullivan. “This space will allow us to expand the Archives program and house our many donated artifacts, archives, and stories in a fresh and engaging community space.”
One way the Historical Society is celebrating the town’s 150th anniversary is through Stories Handed Down , a collection of interviews conducted with families who have lived in Arvada for generations. “We’re a very multi-generational community,”
explains Judith. “We have people whose families have been here since the mid-1800s, and families who have been here since the 1950’s and 1960’s. We are interviewing those people and collecting stories about their experiences here in our community.”
A story that still permeates local tradition is Arvada being known as the Celery Capital of the World from 1930-1935. This unique moniker was resurrected during a recent celebration of City of Arvada volunteers when their thank you gift was a pair of socks with a stalk of celery on one side and the iconic water tower on the other.
Another interesting historical connection involves the city’s water systems. “Early Arvada-area settlers constructed elaborate systems of irrigation ditches that transformed dry land into productive farmland and allowed communities to take root,” explains Judith. “Thirty-four of those ditches still run water today in the older areas of Arvada; one runs through Olde Town.”
In addition to Stories Handed Down, the Historical Society is supporting the City’s Threads of Arvada 250/150 Celebration Community Quilting Project as well as hosting the 23rd Annual Cemetery Tour at the historic Arvada Cemetery on September 26th. “Continuing this anticipated tradition, the tour’s interesting and educational content will offer a walk-through of local history and introduction to the people whose stories helped build Arvada and who are buried at the cemetery,” says Tammy.
Although the anniversary celebrations shine a spotlight on current programs, the Historical Society has led many important initiatives over the years, including acquiring the Arvada Flour Mill, placing it on the National Register of Historic places in 1975, restoring the interior, and building a canopy protection for its extensive collection of agricultural implements. “In April we celebrated Arvada Flour Mill’s 100th anniversary with historic displays, wheat grinding activity, a concert, sales of a celery root liquor distilled by a local distillery, Method & Muse, as a fundraiser for the Society, a visual timeline presentation of the Mill’s history, and other educational activities that showed off the Mill and its historic significance,” says Judith.
“We also established and continue to give tours of Olde Town for Arvada’s second grade learners, partnered with the City to dedicate Gold Strike Park as a city park and register it on the Colorado State Register of Historic Places, and consulted with the City in its creating of the Olde Town History Walk with its twenty-six panels scattered throughout Olde Town,” adds Tammy.
The Arvada Historical Society could not accomplish what it does without the support of the local community. “As a 501 (c3) organization with approximately 230 members, we depend heavily on volunteers to carry out our programs, events, governance and special projects. Our volunteers routinely contribute over 2,000 hours a year,” explains Judith. “Our revenue sources include membership dues, donations, grants from the City of Arvada and event ticket sales. We believe history lives through people. After 156 years, Arvada’s greatest legacy is still its people and traditions.”

The 10% Target Mindset
Jen Cohen ON THE PRACTICE OF ASKING FOR WHAT YOU WANT
Winnipeg in the winter, and a 17-year-old waits 45 minutes in the cold for Keanu Reeves. Her fingers are numb. She is not there for an autograph. She is there to ask him to appear in her audition tape for MuchMusic, Canada’s MTV. When he finally agrees, she writes her number on a gum wrapper with a borrowed lip liner.
He calls days later.
That 17-year-old was Jen Cohen — fitness expert, host of the Habits & Hustle podcast, and best-selling author. She has built a career on the premise her frostbitten afternoon proved. She calls the practice the 10% Target: 10 attempts at whatever you want most in life.
The premise is simple. Most people never make one attempt. Almost nobody makes two. The math works in favor of the person who keeps going.
The top-rated Habits & Hustle podcast has logged hundreds of conversations with high performers and the people who study what the body does to the mind. Her TEDx talk, The Secret to Getting Anything You Want in Life, has traveled widely inside Fortune 500 sales-training rooms. On the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Cohen sits down to share the working rules that are the foundation of her latest book, Bigger, Better, Bolder.
“You have to be the CEO of your own life.”

1 2
MAKE TEN ATTEMPTS
The door opens, or another door does. The unmade attempt and the refused one leave you in the same place — except one of them teaches you something.
STACK THE DECK
Cohen frames her habits as a wager: How do I stack the deck so I win more than I lose? The workout happens first, and the food decisions follow. The email follow-up gets sent, and the answer arrives. The choices compound in a single direction.
3
DISCIPLINE IS A PRACTICED SKILL, NOT AN INHERITANCE
No one is born with it. The people who look disciplined are running a routine they have rehearsed long enough that it no longer feels like effort. The reps are the skill. Miss them, and the skill fades, the same as any other.
4
SELF-TALK ONLY WORKS WHEN THE BODY BACKS IT UP
Confidence does not arrive by repeating the word. It arrives after the body has done the thing — the workout finished, the cold walk endured, the email sent. The mind takes its cues from what the body proves it can do. Talk follows action, not the other way around.
5
NEVER MISS A MONDAY
The first decision sets the slope of the rest. Skip the Monday workout, and the rest of the week tends to follow. Hold the line on Monday, and the slope tilts the other way.

Colorado Landscape Solutions
OUTDOOR LIFESTYLES SHARES EXPERT DROUGHT-FRIENDLY LANDSCAPING TIPS
PHOTOGRAPHY BY OUTDOOR LIFESTYLES
Colorado’s dry climate calls for landscaping that works with the environment, not against it. With ongoing drought conditions this season, we spoke with the team of professionals at Outdoor Lifestyles to share their top go-to tips for creating resilient, water conscious, yet still beautiful landscapes here in Colorado.
One of the most effective approaches Outdoor Lifestyles takes with clients is xeriscaping. This isn’t just “all rock landscaping,”; it is a layered design strategy often mimicking dry creek beds, boulders for height, and simple plantings that create an awe-inspiring landscape. The key is variety. Laura said, “Using multiple textures and colors in what the team calls the ‘rule of 5’- five different materials of five different colors, keeps the landscape visually dynamic while reducing water demand and maintenance.”
For homeowners who still want a lush lawn, proper preparation is essential. Enriched soil, deep amendments, and water-retaining polymers help grass develop strong roots and use moisture more efficiently. Outdoor Lifestyles uses carefully selected Kentucky bluegrass blends designed for both heat and cold resilience.
Ongoing care also matters. Aeration and top-dressing sod with high quality soil amendments provide a boost of nutrients and help keep landscaping looking sharp without a full renovation.
For young plantings, cedar mulch helps lock in moisture, regulate soil temperature, and protect against Colorado’s winds.
Outdoor Lifestyles specializes in drought-conscious landscaping solutions tailored to Colorado’s climate. From xeriscaping design and premium sod installation to soil enrichment, aeration, and mulch applications, their team helps homeowners reduce water use without sacrificing curb appeal in Arvada’s drought conditions. Their science-driven approach is what makes them experts you can trust. Learn more and book your consultation at outdoorlifestyles.com
