tiiiiiiiiiiimeeeee!

The holiday season is here, bringing with it the lights, holiday music, and traditions that make this time of year so magical. For many of us, the holidays stir up extra joy, making it a time to gather with family and friends, shop local, share meals, sip festive drinks, and enjoy all our favorite holiday staples!

For me, it’s making our home cozy and decorating the tree (far too early), getting out the Christmas dinnerware passed down from my husband’s grandma to make meals feel a little extra special, making cookies to share, and catching classic holiday movies like Home Alone or National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at Harkins where someone is always sure to show up dressed up as Cousin Eddie.

This month, we’ve curated the ultimate holiday drink guide to help make your holiday parties festive and fun. We’ve also highlighted some of the best holiday happenings around Arvada during the holidays. From local pop-up bars, events, and entertainment- to holiday markets and even a winter Colorado getaway!

While this season is joyful for many, it can also feel bittersweet, especially if you are grieving, navigating a difficult time, or far from family. As someone who doesn’t live close to my family, I’ve learned how meaningful it is to create your own traditions with those around you. In the spirit of the season and knowing the needs of our community, let’s come together with kindness, compassion, and connection. Whether it’s donating to a local charity, volunteering your time, or simply checking in on a neighbor, every act of generosity makes a difference.

From our team to yours- may your holidays be filled with love, peace, and the joy of giving!

Happy Holidays,

December 2025

Olde Town Christmas Tree Lighting
ARTICLE BY BY VALERIE BIANCULLI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LYNN DAVIS
SMALL TOWN, BIG HOLIDAY SPIRIT
“Smalltown charm that feels straight out of a holiday movie.”

There’s something magical about Arvada in December, the kind of small-town charm that feels straight out of a holiday movie. Twinkling lights wrap every tree and businesses are filled with warmth and happy people. It’s a time when neighbors become family, traditions shine bright, and our cozy community comes together to celebrate the season.

The heart of it all begins with one of Arvada’s most beloved traditions, the Olde Town Christmas Tree Lighting. “Every year, I’m amazed by the turnout,” says  Arvada Lifestyle Editor and local, Lynn Davis. “It feels like the whole community comes to the square the Saturday after Thanksgiving to countdown and light the big tree. It’s such a hallmark-movie moment that I look forward to every year.” Each tree lighting event seems to be bigger than the last. With live music, local vendors, and plenty

of community spirit, it is a holiday gathering you want to be a part of year after year.

This year’s event will hold extra meaning as the community remembers Joe Hengstler, affectionately known as “The Mayor of Olde Town.” “We will definitely miss Joe at this year’s Tree Lighting,” Davis says. “He did so much for our community and local businesses, Olde Town simply wouldn’t be what it is today without him.”

One of Joe’s final projects introduced designated drinking zones to Olde Town, a thoughtful addition that allows residents to sip and stroll responsibly while enjoying Olde Town. “When you purchase a drink from a participating bar, you’ll receive a cup with a sticker and QR code that shows the approved walking area and everything you need to know. “It’s just another way Joe found to bring people together.”

Businesses and patrons alike are excited

“Walking through Olde Town in the winter is just really special.”

about this addition with holiday markets and events happening throughout the month of December. Please note, you must be 21 and drink responsibly within the designated zone to participate.

As the tree glows and carolers fill the night with song, the iconic Olde Town Water Tower will also shine brightly, changing colors throughout the month to honor the many holidays celebrated this time of year.

Just a few steps away, the Olde Town Square becomes a winter wonderland. Ice Skating in the Square invites families, friends, and couples to lace up their skates and make new memories under the stars. Local shops and cafés stay open late, welcoming visitors with warm drinks, cozy treats, and that signature Arvada hospitality. Around town, you’ll find Christmas markets, cookie-decorating classes, and even classic holiday movies playing at Harkins Theatre... each event a small but meaningful reminder of what makes this season so special. “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation at Harkins is always a favorite,” Lynn shares, “People recite memorable lines together and laugh like everyone is watching the movie at home with their family.”

At the Arvada Center, the arts come alive with  Frozen, bringing the magic of the stage to life for audiences of all ages along with holiday concerts and read aloud story times on stage. And for those looking to celebrate with karaoke or a wreath making class, The

Bluegrass Lounge will once again host its festive “Noel” celebrations all month long. With the addition of new restaurants and bars in Olde Town, the holiday events and cheer are sure to reach new heights this year.

Whether you’re gathering friends for a holiday party at Fade It Golf & Social Club, hopping on the G-Line to catch a Nuggets game Christmas night, or just strolling through Olde Town with a warm drink in hand, there’s a joyful sense of togetherness that seems to hum through every corner of Arvada this time of year.

“Walking through Olde Town in the winter is just really special,” Davis adds. “The City does such a great job lighting Olde Town up with every tree lit and all of the businesses really go all out.” Outside of Olde Town, neighbors from all around Arvada will deck their homes and yards with twinkling lights, some even set to music with festive displays and welcome neighbors to drive by.

As another holiday season begins, one thing remains certain... the spirit of Arvada shines brighter than ever.

Cheers to us, Arvada and Happy Holidays! Wishing you a warm and festive holiday season, from our family to yours.

Inside NOEL @ The Bluegrass

We caught up with Josh Schwartz, the beloved general manager of The Bluegrass Coffee & Bourbon Lounge in Olde Town, to get the scoop on this year's pop-up bar, NOEL. Josh shares a glimpse of the magic behind the scenes and offers a few insider tips.

"This will be our 6th Year of NOEL and we’re so excited to show off all of our hard work. If it’s your first time or 6th year in a row, this year will hopefully be the most jaw-dropping NOEL yet with our new cocktail menu and decorations! The elves have been hard at work for the last year and think you’ll really enjoy it!"

JOSH SCHWARTZ, GENERAL MANAGER FOR THOSE WHO MAY BE NEW TO NOEL, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE VIBE AND EXPERIENCE OF THE CHRISTMAS POP-UP AT THE BLUEGRASS LOUNGE?

We’re proud to say that our Winter Wonderland is like no other holiday experience! We keep everyone in mind to make it the most magical season. For the kiddos, Santa comes every Wednesday, and the parents don’t have to wait at the mall. Thursdays we stay open late for Karaoke, so patrons can sing their Christmas cheer. Our ultimate goal is that every patron is immersed with all the magical lights & decorations, yummy cocktails, shot-skis, Christmas music, and pure joy. Community is a big part of the Bluegrass and it’s so much fun to see strangers interacting and becoming friends!

Saturday, December 6th we’ll be hosting a Kid’s Workshop with a Hot Cocoa station and Paint N Sip activity! Tickets are released to the public Friday, November 14th. Don’t miss out because they sell out fast!

FOR THOSE PLANNING A VISIT, WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE EXPERIENCE? ANY “INSIDER TIPS” FROM YOU AND YOUR TEAM?

Make sure to come early and get your name on the wait list. Last year we experienced wait times of 2-3 hours almost every night, but we’re upgrading to waitlist.me this year to organize the herd of people. We open at 4 PM on the weekdays and 2 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. You can always come in early or check in at the host stand and experience all that Olde Town Arvada has to offer while you wait.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COCKTAIL OR MENU ITEM FROM NOEL AND WHY SHOULD GUESTS TRY IT?

We’re very excited to unveil some new cocktails for Noel this year curated by our Beverage Director, Elise Chadwick! The Nutcracker Old Fashioned is a biscotti old fashioned and one of our favorites to be released. Resting Grinch Face and the award-winning Blitzen’s Nog are some of our favorite staples to the NOEL cocktail menu!

“NOEL is the most joyous time of the year at The Bluegrass and to see everyone’s smiling faces and reactions to all of our hard work means so much.”
Festive drinks like “Resting Grinch Face” make the NOEL menu fun and delicious!
“We vowed right then and there, NOEL would have the best decorations, fun & tasty drinks, and something to bring the entire community together! We have a good feeling if you come to experience NOEL, it’ll be one of the highlights of your holiday season!”
You don’t want to miss General Manager, Josh Schwartz as the host of some of the most festive and fun nights at NOEL.

WHAT DOES HOSTING NOEL MEAN TO YOU PERSONALLY AND TO THE BLUEGRASS TEAM?

NOEL is the most joyous time of the year at The Bluegrass and to see everyone's smiling faces and reactions to all of our hard work means so much. Myself, the entire staff, and our volunteers dedicate many long hours and days to making NOEL- the best Christmas Pop-Up Bar! Hearing stories about how it made their holiday season - is a big part why we put so much effort into NOEL. Making some extra money before the slow seasons is also a big plus in making sure our staff is taken care of.

THE POP-UP ONLY COMES ONCE A YEAR. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE WHO’S THINKING, ‘MAYBE I’LL CATCH IT NEXT YEAR?’

7 Years ago, we went to many of the popular corporate Christmas Pop-Up Bars and spent hours waiting to get inside, only to find some underwhelming cocktails and sparse decorations. We vowed right then and there, NOEL would have the best decorations, fun & tasty drinks, and something to bring the entire community together! We have a good feeling if you come to experience NOEL, it’ll be one of the highlights of your holiday season!

Getaway CHARMING WINTER AWAITS

Jennifer's daughter, Meara Roberts, follows her passion for photography and shot this photo of the boardwalk in Grand Lake.

Exploring the quaint and scenic village of Grand Lake, Colorado

A short two-hour trip from Arvada, Grand Lake provides a beautiful and picturesque backdrop for an easy and fun winter getaway. “It's almost like you went back in time, if the cars weren't there, because the buildings look the same as they did a hundred years ago,” shares Arvada resident Jennifer Dampf. “It's got a very Western vibe, but it comes by it honestly. It is a true historical town, and it just happens to be sitting on Colorado's biggest natural lake. The lake is 300 feet deep and sits at 8,000 feet right in front of

Mount Baldy. You couldn't have painted a prettier picture by design.”

For Jennifer, who is also an avid wildlife photographer, the journey to get to Grand Lake is part of the fun, which means the getaway begins right away. “It’s such an enjoyable drive. As soon as you get 10 minutes out of Denver, your scenery begins to change, and it changes every 15 miles or so. You can see bighorn sheep just past Idaho Springs and when you turn right to go toward Winter Park, you go over the Berthoud Pass, which is a stunning drive no matter the season. You can stop at the top, which is the top of the Continental Divide, and take in the beautiful scenery.”

Only one mile from Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake is home to abundant wildlife such as moose, foxes, and bears, as well as many outdoor recreational activities. “Our traditions tend to center around the outdoor activities that winter provides here,” explains Jennifer. “There is free ice-skating on Grand Lake, where the town provides the skates and everything, and it's just so postcard lovely. We have a fantastic sledding hill, ice-fishing, pet friendly hiking trails around the lake, pond hockey, and many snowmobile trails. It's such a winter paradise with all the activities.”

In addition to local shopping and restaurants, attractions near Grand Lake include Adams Falls, the Kauffman House Museum, and Cottage Court Museum and History Park, a restored 1915 motor park that showcases the unique lodgings provided for vacationers in the early years of automobile travel.

A few years ago, Jennifer and her husband set their sights on Grand Lake as their future retirement destination. With retirement being years away, they decided to pursue a vacation property and fell in love with the Little Blue Moose Hideaway. Surrounded by Aspen trees, the cozy 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom cabin offers a serene and inspiring atmosphere.

Influenced by their love of wildlife and nature, Chris and Jennifer decorated the space to truly

A peek into the magic that is Smokey Bear’s den.
Little Blue Moose Hideaway is dogfriendly. Bring your pup along and snuggle up by the wood burning fire stove after a day of exploring.

reflect its surroundings with original works of art and a few fun surprises. “We have a late 1800s Royal Charter Oak wood cooking stove in the kitchen, which has become a coffee and tea bar, and a beautiful blue antique clawfoot soaking tub in the bathroom,” says Jennifer. “The wood burning stove in the main room is also the perfect place to warm up after enjoying the outdoors.”

The cabin’s second bedroom has a theme that resonates with children and wildlife lovers. “When I saw the bedroom, I thought it looked like a bear’s den, so it is decorated to be Smokey Bear’s den. We say that it’s Smokey’s den that he uses, but when he's not here, he lets the kids, or the young

at heart, sleep in it,” shares Jennifer. “It has a log cabin bunk bed and on the wall are pieces of Smokey’s life, like his fire school graduation certificate, a photo of when he met the Queen, and a picture of Smokey getting a presidential medal.” Behind the cabin sits a small clubhouse designed to be a special retreat for children or adults and houses a big screen tv, games, puzzles, and space for overnight stays.

Exploring Grand Lake then returning to the Little Blue Moose Hideaway to recharge is sure to provide a fun winter getaway! To explore Grand Lake and reserve a stay at the Little Blue Moose Hideaway, visit  www.grandlakecolorado.com and Mygrandlakehome.com.

Perks of being a wildlife photographer with a vacation rental in Grand Lake? Jennifer gets shots like this of a female moose near the road a few miles into Rocky Mountain National Park. Shot on Canon R5.
