Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers are often not filled with constant activities and trips but are those that reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the “lazy days of summer” aren't always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures that remind us of our own childhoods. Many people have fond memories of backyard barbecues with friends, making s’mores by a fire pit, spending a day on the water, or eating ice cream on a hot, summer day. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the things happening around our city this summer and ways to get out and explore together. In addition, it is our privilege to shine a light on local veterans in our community and to thank them for their service in honor of the Fourth of July. We have an immense respect for the men and women who have made the selfless decision to serve and protect our nation. The team at Lifestyle wants to thank all veterans for your service, and thank you to your loved ones for their sacrifices so that you could serve. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the many things our city offers during these hot days of summer and that you make some great memories.

Chance Williams, the General Manager of Foothills BMW/Triumph in Lakewood, is sharing his latest purchase: the 2022 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. We asked Chance what it is that made him pull the trigger on the sleek new model. What does a man with access to several options choose for his ride, and why do you love it so much? C: I grew up riding dirt bikes, so I have off-road experience. I used to work on Jeeps, though I’ve also ridden plenty of street bikes. Well, the Tiger puts all

of that into one vehicle. I can ride on the street or the dirt and even bring my backpacking gear--all on two wheels. Telluride Hiking on Jud Wiebe Trail
After the snow melts, outdoor enthusiasts travel to Telluride for its summer festivals, hiking and biking trails, rafting down the San Miguel River, tasting innovative foods, and strolling through the historic mining town surrounded by 13,000 to 14,000-foot peaks. Some choose to stay in town while others gravitate to the hotels and condominiums in the Mountain Village. A convenient and free gondola ride separates the two locations. If you avoid busy driving times and construction delays, Arvada residents can escape the Denver metro area’s summer heat and reach Telluride in about six hours. However, be sure to pack rain gear if your visit coincides with the rainier months of July and August.
SUMMER FESTIVALS For decades, festivals have been a part of Telluride’s culture. As the days are getting longer, visitors can watch colorful hot air balloons float gracefully over the valley, listen to bluegrass music, or be inspired by yoga and meditation experts. Wine, architecture, and jazz are the focal points in the summer while film, blues, and cars are the main draws in the fall.
HISTORY BUFFS A printed version of the Historic Walking Tour can be found inside Telluride’s Summer Visitor Guide and can also be downloaded from the Visit Telluride website. The map pinpoints fourteen designated spots that highlight key structures from the 19th century. For the town’s hilly streets, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and carrying a water bottle. The Telluride Historical Museum, a former hospital, introduces visitors to the Native Americans who first inhabited the region, to the people who started the primitive mining camp, and to how the community developed into a year-round destination. This building is on the route of the self-guided walking tour.
WATER ACTIVITIES From May to October, outfitters offer halfday and full-day rafting trips down several local rivers. Experienced paddleboarders can take advantage of picturesque high alpine lakes while newbies can learn a new skill. Inner tubes can be purchased and rented. Local guides can direct any angler with a Colorado fishing license

running water cascading from waterfalls and running streams. The Bridal Veil Falls Trail is approximately a mile from the town. From the crowded parking lot, hikers can see Colorado’s tallest free-falling waterfall measuring 365 feet. After a summer thunderstorm, slippery and muddy conditions may make the steep journey challenging. Crowds also congregate along the Bear Creek Trail. This trail is at the end of South Pine Street. Distant waterfalls feed a fast-flowing river that snakes its way through the canyon floor. Families and individuals with limited mobility can meander on the Telluride River Trail, a flat four-mile path that runs adjacent to Town Park where pedestrians can stop to view a small waterfall. After enjoying a dinner in town, take the gondola to the San Sophia Terminal where you can observe majestic sunsets.

For Mediterranean inspired entrees consider The Village Table. This restaurant offers shareable entrees and an expansive bar menu. Memorable meals at top notch restaurants are plentiful. Two suggestions include Eliza Gaven’s award-winning 221 South Oak and Chad Scothorn’s Cosmopolitan Telluride located in the Hotel Columbia. The former introduces customers to creative vegetarian cuisine showcased in Gaven’s cookbook, Hold the Meat, while the latter location offers a contemporary menu showcasing meat, fish, and poultry entrees, as well as wines and craft cocktails. Before leaving Telluride, relax at the Telluride Distilling Company Tasting Room to sip a popular wintertime drink, the Chairlift Warmer, or a favorite summertime cocktail, the Peach and Strawberry Mule.
EXPLORING From 4X4 off-roading to mountain biking and hiking, the surrounding region has countless paths and roads to explore. Bike rentals are available, and guides can arrange 4-wheel drive tours to secluded spots and ghost towns. Fortunately, a selection of Telluride’s popular hiking trails is conveniently located near Telluride and the Mountain Village. Dozens more trails are within an hour’s drive. The Jud Wiebe Trail can be accessed at two trailheads. This three-mile moderate loop trail was created with multiple switchbacks to accommodate a 1,300foot elevation gain. From the dirt and gravel path, trekkers can periodically witness panoramic views of the town, the rest of the valley, and the adjacent ski mountain. Along the route, there are orange and black butterflies. One can also experience the soothing sound of

SUMMER GIN & TONIC INGREDIENTS 2 large strawberries, halved 1 teaspoon sugar 4 small mint leaves 1 ½ ounces gin 1 lime slice 4-6 ounces tonic water
INSTRUCTIONS Place strawberries, sugar, lime, and mint in a glass. Muddle all solid ingredients a bit to blend all the flavors. Add tonic water and gin. Enjoy!

Disc Golf Hits a Hole-in-One in Arvada ANOTHER ROUND DISC GOLF BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER FOR FUN AND ENCOURAGEMENT

The sense of community is strong in the disc golf realm, along with the desire to see each other do well. Jason Knowles is the owner of Another Round Disc Golf in Arvada, and he's worked hard to foster an environment in which seasoned players help newbies learn and grow their skills. In disc golf, players throw a polypropylene disc toward a wire basket with hanging chains designed to catch the discs. The game follows similar rules to traditional golf. It's for all ages, and beginners and casual players tend to have the “right of way,” with league players making sure everyone gets to enjoy the game. There are quite a few disc golf courses in and around Arvada, all free to use and managed by municipalities, and there are private courses in the mountains ranging from $5-12 for a full day/18+ holes.

“A lot of people who get into disc golf are brought into it by a friend,” says Jason. “Very few people discover it on their own." Another Round Disc Golf takes great pride in being a place people can just hang out and learn more about the sport. There's a taproom right in the shop, so you can practice some basic moves, check out the gear, and talk to seasoned players to compare techniques and get encouragement. The overall attitude of the sport is a lot like the Ninja Warrior mentality, in which the players aren't just about besting each other. They're trying to beat the game or the course, and when someone does extremely well, that win is celebrated by everyone. If you want to play at a local course, you don't have to schedule a time or reserve space at most locations. It's all very easy and inclusive. “The barriers to getting started are so low,” says Jason. “You can spend as little as $20 buying your first disc and then just go play.” A lot of times when you go to courses, you'll find people arriving alone, initially, and they'll connect with other individuals and play together. “It's a great way to make

new friends.” Jason notes it's for all ages, too. “I see these amazing men in their 70s playing disc golf and staying fit. It's so good for your joints and your spirit. I hope to still be playing at that point in my life. It's inspiring.” Like any sport, you can spend a lot of money on high-end gear. Top-of-the-line bags to carry all your discs and accessories can run over $250. There are pricey collector's edition discs with unique artwork, too, and for some, the discs become décor. Jason has about 200 discs on display at his home. June 4 was the one year anniversary of Another Round Disc Golf in Arvada, and the store has seen consistent growth. “People are loving the sport and responding to what we're trying to do--which is all about the experience.” Jason says he really believes if you come hang out in his store and taproom, you will become a better player. “I just want people to have more fun.” He encourages everyone to give disc golf a try. “Worst case scenario, you're throwing a frisbee to see where you're going to walk next, so it's a walk in the park with your friends.”
