Welcome to Arvada Lifestyle's first Women's Issue! In this issue, I feel honored and proud to highlight several amazing women whom I call partners, associates, colleagues, and friends. I have had the privilege to be graced with the presence of so many incredible women over the years. Before I go any further, I want to say thank you. Thank you especially to the woman who made this all possible: my mom. Mom, you have given me a life that too often I took for granted. I am sorry for all the hassle over the years. CULINARY CREATIONS

BABA GANOUSH TRY THIS RECIPE FROM OUR LOCAL EXPERT, SARAH CLOYD! With over 16 years of culinary experience, this ought to be delicious!

INGREDIENTS Serves 10 - 12 hungry friends. + 9 eggplant +1 ½ C tahini +1 ½ tbsp salt +6 oz fresh lemon juice +9 cloves garlic +½ tsp chili powder +3 tbsp olive oil +cilantro to taste

DIRECTIONS 01 Use a fork to poke lots of holes in the eggplants and place on a baking sheet. Roast at 400 degrees until the skin is blistered and the eggplant is soft - approximately 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and chill. 02 Place the garlic cloves in a small pot with the olive oil, and gently cook until the garlic is golden brown and tender. Cool the oil and garlic completely; you will use both in the next step. 03 Remove the flesh of the eggplant from the skins, and put the flesh in a food processor. Add the remaining ingredients, and blend until totally smooth. 04 Enjoy with pita, pretzels, chips, or veggies. 16

HELLO, ARVADA! I’m so excited to finally introduce myself! I am in real estate full time, a lover of (almost) all exercise, and your Social Media Director! My ideal weekend includes a long run and/or scenic hike, sleeping in, lots of cooking for the week ahead, and splurging on some Fire On The Mountain wings or checking out somewhere new. I enjoy all things creative, but it broke my heart not to attend any sporting events last year (ahh, the smell of a tailgate). Spend time with you - take yourself to dinner, buy yourself a drink, enjoy a solo hike or vacay. Take time to hear YOUR voice, opinion, and energy the loudest. 5. Fulfill all your curiosities or prepare for them to eat you alive. 6. Sit with your strengths and weaknesses so that you can supportively sit alongside another person’s strengths and weaknesses. And if you can’t sit with it, work on it!

SNOWDROPS & SAGE BACK IN THE MID-2000S, FOLLOWING A FAST-PACED AND STRESSFUL CAREER IN OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT, LEE DUHL DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO MAKE A CHANGE. With her husband’s encouragement she stepped away from her corporate job and enrolled in floral design school. She soaked up every bit of the very traditional instruction offered and emerged equipped with a solid understanding of the floral basics, then began to put her own spin on what she had learned. Working from her kitchen table Lee began taking on floral jobs for friends, then small weddings in Lexington, MA where she lived with her husband and son. In 2008, Lee’s husband was offered an enticing new job in Denver. The family packed up for the cross-country trip and settled in Golden. After getting the lay of the land, Lee re-established her small floral business from the garage at their new home. She became known for her unique design style and high touch, personalized service. Fast forward to 2021, and Lee is still at it. Over the years she occasionally stepped away from her work with flowers but always returned, constantly expanding upon her understanding of the craft. She now operates Snowdrops & Sage – again from a space in her home – providing a wide variety of personalized

come in handy as she single-handedly manages all aspects of the company’s operation. SARAH GREW UP IN SELMA, CALIFORNIA IN THE RAISIN CAPITAL OF THE WORLD. When she woke up one day and told her parents she had decided to be a cook, they just chuckled. Sarah herself realized that although formal education would bring her knowledge, the best way to learn how to be a chef would be to immerse herself in as many experiences as possible. And so she set out. Sarah traveled with her young son, attended college, and worked in various kitchens. Most memorably, she worked at Duecy’s at Bass Lake in California, and then at a saute station with 18 burners, 3 ovens, 2 wok burners, and 2 salamanders...all by herself! At the age of 24, she was promoted to Executive Chef and experienced a ton of firsts: first time writing a menu from scratch, first time training a crew, and first time leading a team. She then made the decision to move back to Colorado and continue to learn the art of cooking at Euclid Hall, Rioja, and Stoic & Genuine. She is now your Executive Chef at Steuben’s Arvada, and she cannot wait to cook for you!

WHO RUNS THE WORLD? GIRLS! DUH! Meet Kim Purdy, Owner of D&K Jewelers! She is efficient, fearless, and damn good at what she does. Let’s get to know her! I like pajama day on my couch, landscaping in the yard, competing on the KCBS BBQ circuit, cuddling with my pups, and going to and reading at church. I love my husband, children, my pets, God, traveling, the ocean, long walks on the beach, jewelry, campfires, and cooking. I loathe liars, cheats and thieves. I wish there was more love in the world, less hate and less bias based on color and sexual orientation. I wonder what the world is going to be like post Covid. I regret that I did not try harder in school.

I admire people that have come from nothing and have made a life for themselves that they are happy in, proud of and content with. I am very strong and independent. I don't trust easy. But when I do, I am willing to do anything. My favorite beverage is 3 Olives Berry Vodka and Sprite with lime. The perfect day includes my husband by my side, sunshine on my face, and contentment in my heart. A habit worth keeping is being honest with yourself and others, no matter what. My best dating advice is to be yourself and find your best friend. My favorite women in the spotlight are everyday women around the world who are branding a new model of success beyond their careers!
