Style reflects who we are, what we value, and how we see the world. It’s not just found in what we wear or how we decorate our homes, but also in the way we carry ourselves and curate our lives. In this issue, we explore Style as both personal expression and creative identity. Whether minimal and refined or bold and eclectic, style gives each of us a voice without needing to say a word. It’s in the lines of architecture, the layering of textures, the mix of old and new, and most importantly, the confidence to be original. From dreamy wardrobe finds at a girly boutique to confidence-boosting transformations by a local hair stylist, style doesn’t stop at your outfit; it flows into your lifestyle. We're highlighting everything from beauty to home in this issue. Discover cozy, stylish living space ideas brought to life by a visionary construction company that understands both form and function. Whether you're updating your closet, your hair, or your home, these local gems bring charm, creativity, and inspiration to every corner of your life. Style isn’t about following trends. It’s about knowing what speaks to you and leaning into that. It evolves with time, with growth, with experience. Our goal is to highlight those moments of authentic style that stand out not because they shout, but because they feel true. Thank you for allowing us to share this creative journey with you. Here’s to embracing your version of style beautifully and boldly! Warm regards,

Progress on Roads That Keep Anna Moving As Anna continues to grow, so does our commitment to improving roads and connectivity throughout the city. I’m excited to share progress on several key transportation projects that will help ensure we stay ahead of our growth. First, we’ve secured an important win for safety and traffic flow: TxDOT has approved a new traffic signal at Rosamond Parkway and Powell Parkway (SH 5). After an updated traffic signal warrant study confirmed the need, TxDOT began design work in early 2024. While installation is estimated for early 2026 due to coordination with the railroad, this project represents a significant step forward in keeping drivers and pedestrians safe. We’re also advancing a plan to widen Rosamond Parkway from Buddy Hayes to Langdon Drive, transforming it from two lanes to four. This City-led expansion will improve capacity and better serve future development, including the Kroger site. Some neighbors have asked
why the widening appears to “bottleneck” near SH 5. That section is being handled by a private developer who is responsible for building out the remaining lanes from Langdon to SH 5. Their plans are currently under review by both our Engineering Department and TxDOT. While phased approaches can feel slow, this strategy ensures new growth pays for the infrastructure it requires. In other exciting news, developers are moving forward with key road extensions, including Standridge Boulevard and Hackberry Drive, helping to improve access, safety, and emergency response across north Anna. And, just recently TxDOT kicked off a feasibility study to evaluate the future alignment of White Street (FM 455) west of Hwy 75 out to Shady Brook Trail. Thank you for your continued support as we invest in the infrastructure that powers our future.

Mia Freitag | Anna HS It is with great pleasure to announce Mia Freitag as the Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Month, as selected by the Anna Independent School District Athletic Coaching Team. Mia is a dedicated student-athlete at Anna High School and is currently in her senior year. Her passion for Kinesiology and Sports Medicine shines through both in and out of the classroom, making it her favorite subject. A recent Wisconsin transplant, Mia moved to Texas in June 2024, bringing with her a strong work ethic, love for volleyball, and plenty of ambition. On the court, Mia plays Varsity Volleyball as a Setter. Her accolades include Server of the Year, Co-Setter Award, and Honorable Mention All-District. She was also part of Anna’s All-Academic team and earned Student Athletic Trainer of the Week multiple times. Back in Wisconsin, she was a Team
Captain and earned the prestigious “Coach’s Choice” award. Off the court, Mia is actively involved in the Sports Medicine Program and has consistently made the Honor Roll throughout high school. Her favorite color is pink, and she cheers for Nebraska Volleyball and LOVB Austin Volleyball. This year, she’s aiming for a playoff run with her team and plans to finish strong academically by maintaining a 90% average or higher. After graduation, Mia hopes to attend Texas Tech University, study Kinesiology, and become an athletic trainer for a college or pro team, all while staying connected to the sport she loves. Congratulations to Mia and her selection as the September Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Month!

Creating Beauty & Confidence! STYLIST LAUREN ROBERTS AT SALON HEAD 2 TOE
In the quaint and bustling town of Van Alstyne, where community spirit thrives, Lauren Roberts has become a beloved figure at Salon Head 2 Toe. As a skilled hair stylist, Lauren has dedicated her career to helping clients enhance their appearance and boost their confidence through her exceptional hairdressing talents. From stunning cuts and vibrant colors, Lauren’s artistry in hair care reflects her passion for beauty and customer satisfaction. 1. WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A HAIRDRESSER, AND HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY? I grew up in my nanny’s beauty shop in Frisco, Texas, so I guess you could say she inspired me. I grew up around a family of hairdressers on my dad’s side of the family. I went through a program in high school and graduated from cosmetology school when I graduated high school. 2. HOW DO YOU STAY CURRENT WITH TRENDS AND TECHNIQUES IN SUCH A FAST-EVOLVING INDUSTRY? Continuing education keeps me up to date on current and ever-changing techniques. Also, social media and access to so many videos and educators help to keep me current as well. I always watch new videos and techniques to continually improve my craft. 3. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE KIND OF TRANSFORMATION OR SERVICE TO DO, AND WHY? I can’t really say I have a favorite because I love cutting and coloring. The opportunity to transform people and make them feel beautiful is such a blessing. And it’s the text you get from clients after doing their hair, telling you how much they love their hair, that really makes every hairdresser’s job worth the hard work. 4. WHAT MAKES WORKING AS A HAIRDRESSER AT SALON HEAD 2 TOE IN VAN ALSTYNE UNIQUE, AND HOW DOES THE LOCAL VIBE INFLUENCE YOUR WORK? I’ve grown up in small towns my whole life. I spent 25+ years of my career working in the Frisco/Little Elm area, and over the years became a very fast-paced, large suburban area. I love how I’ve gotten back to the “small town” vibe of doing hair in Van Alstyne. Life in VA is a little bit simpler and more relaxed; everyone isn’t rushing. 5. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE AS A HAIRDRESSER, AND HOW DOES IT COME THROUGH IN THE LOOKS YOU CREATE? Fun, loud, energetic, when you sit in my chair, we’re going to be laughing and having fun! Everyone in our salon loves to laugh and have fun while working. I can do any kind of hair, from simple basic color and styles to fun and vibrant looks. 6. DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE LOCAL EVENTS, BUSINESSES, OR PEOPLE THAT INSPIRE YOUR WORK OR STYLE? The people I work with at Salon Head 2 Toe inspire me daily. Watching others and how they do things/techniques differently always keeps me learning and asking questions. As stylists, we all have our unique ways of doing things, so being able to constantly watch others and learn from them is so important. CONTINUED >

7. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF HAIR ADVICE YOU THINK EVERY LOCAL SHOULD KNOW, ESPECIALLY IN OUR CLIMATE OR LIFESTYLE? Hair, like life, shouldn’t be taken so seriously. Live it fun and loud or relaxed and simple. Because at the end of the day, all we want is to live a life filled with beauty and love. Lauren Roberts is more than just a hair stylist; she is a transformative force in the lives of her clients at Salon Head 2 Toe in Van Alstyne. Vertical Gardens Are Moving Indoors
The Stylish Home Design Trend That Will Have You Saying, “Oh, Grow Up!”
Humans have always had a penchant for propagation. Since King Nebuchadnezzar II built The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (one of the original Seven Wonders of the World) in the sixth century BC, artful gardening has fascinated folks. Today, there is a growing trend (pun intended) in home design that echoes that need to nurture, albeit on a much smaller scale. It goes by many names. Environmentalists refer to them as “green walls” or “ecowalls.” Gardeners may prefer “garden wall” or “edible wall.” Designers have dubbed them “statement walls.” But for our purposes here, we will refer to them as the architects do — as “vertical gardens.” A vertical garden is essentially a wall, or part of a wall, that is covered with plants growing in soil or another type of medium. Though they began as outdoor architectural attractions, these wonderful wallscapes are popping up indoors, and their benefits go beyond a fancy facade. The most obvious benefit of a vertical garden is the visual beauty it brings to the room. Its unexpected presence adds surprise and drama, while its living tenants, with their varied textures and individual personalities, add energy and a bit of charm as well.
Beyond the aesthetic advantages, living walls have health benefits. They improve the air quality by adding humidity, trapping dust particles, and absorbing many harmful gasses, replacing them with oxygen. They can help with cardiovascular issues like blood pressure as well as breathing problems associated with allergies and asthma. Because they lend a sense of calm and well being, they can even improve concentration, elevate mood, and reduce stress. Because these living walls are becoming more popular, demand is driving the price down, making them more affordable for the average homeowner. Kits are available and most feature an integrated water delivery system which makes them low maintenance as well. As for which types of plants to grow, succulents, mosses, grasses, and ferns are all good choices. Tropical vines work well also, as they can trail down or climb up. Pothos and philodendrons have great climbing capabilities, are fast growing, and low maintenance. The design possibilities are as endless as the plant combinations. So bring the outside in! Simply choose a location with bright, indirect light, and turn your wall into a living piece of artwork with a vertical garden.
