THE MINDFUL APPROACH TO EATING
Shelley Loving advocates for a mindful approach to eating—one that encourages individuals to become more aware of their food choices and the origins of those choices. Mindfulness in eating means paying attention to not only what we eat but how we eat. Q: TELL US HOW YOU GOT INTO HEALTHY COOKING AND WHAT KICKSTARTED YOUR PATH TO CREATE SHELLEY CAN HELP?
A : My husband had a massive heart attack at the age of 41 and we both knew we didn’t want him on 7 prescription drugs forever so we decided to take action holistically and begin the healing process. I turned to food as a way to get him better and it worked. It worked so well that the doctor said he has completely reversed the heart damage. When he told us that, I knew I had to share this simple food information with more people.
Q: IF YOU COULD GIVE 1 SIMPLE TIP FOR PEOPLE THAT WANT TO EAT AND COOK HEALTHIER, WHERE WOULD YOU TELL THEM TO START?
A : Learn how to read a food label. When you learn to properly read a food label and are able to quickly identify unhealthy ingredients, you hold all the power on your health and your ability to get healthy.
Q: WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT FOR PEOPLE TO LOOK OUT FOR WHEN THEY BUY PROCESSED FOODS?
A: Oils. Refined cooking oils are very unhealthy, cause a lot of inflammation in our bodies which turns into long-term health issues. Refined oils are in so many of our packaged foods today and they should be avoided at all costs.
Q: WHAT IS THE CORE FOCUS OF YOUR TEACHINGS AND YOUR RECIPES?
A: Chronic Inflammation. I teach a very simple method to healthier cooking. Avoid inflammatory ingredients and focus on eating foods that actually fight inflammation. By reducing inflammation in the body, we are allowing our bodies to begin the healing process and/or stay healthy

As we enter the new fiscal year, the City of Anna is excited to share our budget theme, “Turning Visions into Reality.” This theme perfectly captures our ongoing efforts to bring the dreams of our community and leaders to life.
Look around our city, and you’ll see these realized visions: a new fire station enhancing public safety, Slayter Creek Park becoming a community destination, and a state-ofthe-art library under construction, poised to serve as a hub for learning, technology, and community connection. But our vision extends beyond what is visible today. Our Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is more robust, ambitious, and aligned with our growth than ever before. We are one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and this CIP reflects our responsibility to meet our neighbors’ needs. From newly designed parks to improved roadways and a regional
wastewater treatment facility, these initiatives are critical to controlling our city’s future.
Technology also plays a crucial role in the FY24-25 budget. We’re investing in software and programs that will streamline city operations, reduce redundancy, and enhance service delivery, ensuring that we remain a modern and efficient organization.
This budget includes market adjustments, a new minimum starting hourly rate of $18.00, and incremental tenure calculations aimed at promoting long-term sustainability and a lasting relationship between our organization and its employees. We are committed to being an employer of choice, recognizing and rewarding our public stewards’ dedication to our community.

Anna HS It is with immense pleasure to announce the Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Month as selected by Anna Independent School District Athletic Coaching Team. This month’s selection is Bo Brown.
Bo is a junior and a shining example of excellence both on and off the field. With a passion for football, he has honed his skills as a running back and receiver since sixth grade, playing with a determination that matches his favorite color, purple—a symbol of his unwavering spirit. His favorite sports team is the San Francisco 49ers.
His academic prowess is evident in his love for Honors Algebra 2, where he continues to excel, earning a spot on the AB Honor Roll. Bo balances his rigorous studies with his athletic commitments, highlighting his ability
to succeed in both arenas.
Beyond football, Bo shares a special bond with his father through endurance running, an activity that not only strengthens his physical endurance but also builds his mental toughness. As he looks ahead, Bo has set two ambitious goals: becoming a two-time state champion and graduating with a 3.5 GPA.
Congratulations to Bo and his selection as October Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Month! His vision for the future includes the possibility of playing college football, but regardless of where life takes him, he plans to remain active and engaged in the sports he loves!
