As we celebrate the 1st anniversary of Anna City Lifestyle, I’m filled with gratitude and pride for how far we’ve come. What started as a spark between lifelong friends has grown into a publication that celebrates the heart of our community, its people, its passions, and its purpose.
This month, we proudly present The Gentleman’s Issue, a tribute to the men who lead with quiet confidence, unwavering purpose, and heartfelt dedication. Whether it’s Drew Little’s passion-fueled journey in athletic performance training or the steady presence of fathers, husbands, brothers, and mentors, we’re celebrating the impact of those who lead not just through what they do, but through the intention behind their every step.
We’re also taking a moment to spotlight something just as important: space. Giving your man his space isn’t about distance; it’s about respect, understanding, and allowing room for growth, whether that’s time in the gym, pursuing a passion, or simply having a moment of quiet.
To the gentlemen shaping our neighborhoods with integrity, grit, and care, we see you, we salute you. And to our readers: thank you for being part of this journey. Here's to a year of stories well told, friendships strengthened, and dreams just getting started!
Warm regards,

In the heart of Allen, Texas, during the mid-1970s, two little girls, Angie and Shannon, met and instantly became best friends. Living just one street apart, they were inseparable from the very beginning. Their bond, forged in childhood, would go on to shape their personal lives and professional paths in a truly inspiring way.
Though life took them down different roads for a while, their connection

neighborhood was now one of two women with families and dreams still to be fulfilled.
Eventually, both women found themselves living in the charming town of Van Alstyne. One sunny afternoon, as they sat reminiscing and dreaming about the future, they began talking about what kind of business they could start together, something meaningful, enjoyable, and rooted in the community.
never faded. Angie went off to college while Shannon stayed in Allen, marrying her high school sweetheart and starting a family with the birth of a baby girl. Angie followed a different timeline, marrying after college and eventually having two children of her own. Despite the physical distance and separate journeys, the friendship remained strong. They stood by each other in all of life’s big moments, Angie as Shannon’s Maid of Honor and Shannon as Angie’s Matron of Honor.
After Angie’s husband completed his degree, the family moved back to the North Dallas area. As their children grew older, Angie and Shannon found more time to reconnect and spend together. The bond that began as little girls running around their
That conversation turned into something much bigger. After plenty of brainstorming and excitement, Angie decided to purchase a franchise and launch a local magazine. That spark of an idea became Anna City Lifestyle, a publication created for the residents of Anna, Melissa, and Van Alstyne. Naturally, Shannon jumped on board, taking on the role of editor with enthusiasm and vision.
The two best friends were now business partners, using their talents and shared love for their community to spread positivity. Anna City Lifestyle was born out of more than just business ambitions, it was built from a friendship spanning decades, and a deep desire to give back to the place they now call home.
The mission behind the magazine is simple but powerful: to celebrate and support the people and businesses that make these communities special. From highlighting local entrepreneurs to covering neighborhood events, Anna City Lifestyle brings uplifting stories and valuable resources straight to residents' mailboxes and social media feeds.
Of course, every dynamic duo needs a third member to round out the team. Angie and Shannon welcomed Allison as their digital marketing manager, a role they jokingly admit needed someone “young” to keep them up to date with the ever-evolving digital world. Allison has brought fresh energy and tech-savvy to the team, helping the magazine’s online presence thrive.
With gratitude in their hearts, Angie, Shannon, and Allison are thankful for their incredible support. Their founding partners and business collaborators have been instrumental in growing the magazine and expanding its impact. Every handshake, every ad placement, every community spotlight has helped fuel their passion and purpose.
From childhood giggles on neighborhood sidewalks to entrepreneurial success in North Texas, Angie and Shannon’s story is a testament to friendship, perseverance, and the magic that happens when you follow your heart. And with Allison by their side, the future of Anna City Lifestyle is as bright as ever. They are so proud and honored to celebrate their 1st anniversary!

BUILDING STRONGER ATHLETES THROUGH INTENTIONAL, PERSONALIZED COACHING EXCELLENCE
Drew Little’s career in athletic performance training began right after high school, shaped by a personal mission to help athletes reach their full potential. His path into coaching wasn’t built on personal athletic success, but rather on the frustration of not having the guidance he needed as a young athlete. That experience became the foundation for a career focused on providing athletes with the kind of coaching and support that can make a real difference.
Over the past 20 years, Drew has coached at the college level, worked with Olympic athletes, collaborated with the Nike Sports Research Lab, consulted for national and international athletic committees, and trained hundreds of NFL Combine athletes preparing for the professional stage.
Drew believes that high-quality coaching shouldn’t be reserved only for elite players or specific sports. Every young athlete deserves access to proven training methods and consistent support, whether they’re aiming for college scholarships or simply trying to improve. With this in mind, he opened Barbarian Performance in his own community, deliberately staying close to home in order to build stronger relationships and have a lasting local impact. The center has become a cornerstone of the community, fostering talent and assisting athletes to achieve their goals.

In a field filled with a wide range of training programs and philosophies, Drew focuses on providing a consistent, thoughtful approach that athletes and families can rely on. He combines years of hands-on experience with a genuine commitment to each athlete’s long-term growth. Rather than promising quick fixes, he emphasizes steady progress, proper technique, and personal development. His goal is to create a supportive environment where young athletes feel valued, challenged, and motivated. At Barbarian Performance, Drew continues to build trust through results, helping athletes grow in both skill and confidence with every session. This focus on consistent improvement ensures athletes stay on track toward their objectives.
Barbarian Performance, one of Texas’s most respected names in elite athletic training, has relocated from Carrollton, TX, to its current home in Melissa, TX, bringing a new level of access to high-level performance coaching across North Texas.
tailored approach helps maximize progress while minimizing the risk of overtraining or burnout. It’s this thoughtful design of each training session that distinguishes Barbarian from other programs.
Barbarian Performance offers several formats to support athletes at any stage of development. Small group sessions provide a high-energy, competitive setting that encourages focus and effort, while still allowing for individual coaching and feedback. For those who want more specialized attention, one-on-one training delivers highly personalized programming and direct, detailed instruction. And for athletes outside of the immediate area, remote coaching makes it possible to follow a structured, proven Barbarian plan from anywhere. This flexibility allows athletes to pursue excellence on their terms, wherever they may be.
“At Barbarian Performance, athletes don’t just train hard; they train with purpose, discipline, and long-term development in mind.”
What sets Barbarian apart from the many training facilities and online programs available today is its commitment to data-driven, purposeful training. Every sprint, lift, and movement is intentional, crafted not just to push athletes but to build the specific qualities they need to succeed in their sport. Training is always adapted to the athlete’s current phase, whether they’re in the off-season, in-season, or recovering from an injury. This
To give athletes a chance to experience what makes Barbarian Performance different, the first session is completely free. There’s no pressure and no obligation, just an opportunity to train with a team that truly understands athletic development and lets results speak for themselves. It’s a chance to feel the energy, meet the coaches, and walk away with a clear understanding of how and why this program works. With every element of training grounded in experience and intention, athletes who train at Barbarian don’t just work hard; they work with purpose, discipline, and determination!

Each summer, our Boots and Booms Independence Day celebration brings the heart of our community together for music, fun, and fireworks. This year, we’re doing it again on Saturday, June 28. We often get asked, “Why not host it on the Fourth?” It’s a great question, and one we’ve had thoughtful conversations about, and the answers are rooted in creating the best experience for everyone.
Hosting the celebration on the Saturday before July 4 offers several benefits. First and foremost, Saturdays provide more flexibility for families who are off work and school. It means more of our neighbors can attend and enjoy a full evening of festivities without watching the clock. It also gives our city team time to prepare thoroughly during regular work hours, allowing for a high-quality event without needing to pay holiday overtime. That means your city resources are going further.
It also makes room for the best talent and vendors. July 4 is a busy day for fireworks companies and performers, and we would be competing with larger cities that have bigger budgets. By celebrating on June 28, we’re able to bring in top-tier entertainment like Coffey Anderson, who will headline this year’s event with a 90-minute concert before our signature fireworks show.
Perhaps most importantly, our approach gives you the best of both worlds: an exciting community celebration and a relaxing July 4 spent however you choose, whether it’s with neighbors, family, or simply enjoying a quiet evening. It also allows our city staff the chance to spend the holiday with their loved ones, too.
We can’t wait to see you at Boots and Booms. Let’s make this celebration one to remember. Learn more at www.annatexas.gov/independence.
A Look at The Man Cave
ARTICLE BY EMILY FOSTER INTERIORS
Ok ladies, for those of you that live with your man and are not too keen on his collection of deer heads or affinity for all things Chicago Blackhawks, then let me help you create his very own man cave, that you and he can be proud of.
With how a man cave is usually done in mind, there are plenty of ways to make this hideaway both agreeable and full of style. I always start with what is most important to your man and 9 out of 10 times it is comfortable seating. So, with that in mind, I start with smart seating. Do we need a sectional? Can we get away with a cool reclining chair? Do we need Barstools? Comfortable, durable, and stylish seating is my jumping-off point.

Next, of course, there will need to be a TV for gaming and/or sports watching. Try and get him the size he wants, if it can work in space and not be too obnoxious (ladies, you’ll thank me later) because this is all men truly care about. He gets his big TV, then you have more of an opportunity to get what you want in the rest of the house. It’s a win-win.
Lastly, without getting too “theme-y,” I organize what he loves and treasures into a gallery wall. I recently did one wall of really cool wallpaper for a husband that was a huge Star Wars fan. It was a black and white Star Wars print that gave this aficionado a fun way to bring his subject matter and style together.
No matter who you are or what you like, I believe every person needs a space where he or she can relax, breathe and be joyful in. Man Caves are no exception.

THESE DELICIOUS RECIPES ARE LIGHT, BRIGHT AND FEEL LIKE SUMMER
The sun has returned, and grilling season is upon us. With the nice weather comes vegetable gardens and fresh produce, along with the overwhelming desire to be outside as much as possible. We’ve compiled some fresh and light dishes that you can shop for at your local farmers market and whether you’re looking for a quick mid-week meal or something to grill for a crowd on the weekend these dishes won’t disappoint. These pair well together or can stand on their own!
• 2lbs. Outside skirt steak*
• 2 Tablespoons lime*
• 2 Tablespoons finely, chopped cilantro
• ¼ Cup olive oil or avocado oil
• ¼ White onion, finely chopped
• 1 Tablespoon cumin
• Salt and pepper to taste
1. Place skirt steak into gallon freezer bag
2. Combine all other ingredients in bowl and mix. Pour over steak and marinate for 3-4 hours or overnight in the fridge.
3. Bring skirt steak to room temperature by letting it sit out for one hour.
4. Get your grill hot on one side and medium on the other.
5. Once the grill is ready, wipe excess marinade off steak. Starting on the hot side, place skirt steak on grill for 2 minutes per side, attaining a nice sear.
6. Transfer steak to the cooler side of grill and cook until the internal temp is 130°. Let rest for 10 minutes (temp will rise while resting).
7. Carve and serve. This dish pairs well with beans and rice or served as tacos. Following is a chimichurri sauce that compliments it nicely.
*Outside skirt steak is a more tender cut than inside skirt steak, for this recipe outside skirt is recommended. Do not use too much lime as the citrus can cook the meat before putting it on the grill, resulting in a tougher texture.
• ½ Cup parsley, finely chopped
• ½ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• 2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
• 3 Cloves garlic, minced
• 1 Red chili (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ½ Teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 Teaspoon salt
• 1 Tablespoon lime juice (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a bowl. You can make this in the late morning and let it sit for around 4-6 hours, or you can make it the day before and let the flavors meld overnight in the fridge. Just be sure to take it out and get it to room temp before you serve it, as olive oil hardens in the fridge. Serve over skirt steak or tacos.
• 2 Ears sweet corn
• 10oz. Cherry tomatoes
• ¼ Cup lime juice
• 1 Finely chopped jalapeno or serrano (whole or deseeded depending on desired level of heat)
• ¼ Cup cilantro, finely chopped
• ½ Cup white onion, chopped
• 2 Cloves garlic, minced
• Salt to taste
1. Grill corn, you do not need to soak the corn beforehand.
2. Place corn on the grill (inside their husks) over medium heat turning every few minutes.
3. After 10 to 12 minutes shuck the corn and put the cobs back on the grill for 2-4 minutes rotating frequently to achieve that charred look and flavor.
4. Cut the corn from the cob, place in bowl and add all other ingredients. Let the mixture meld for about an hour and serve with tortilla chips or as a taco garnish.

Learning a new skill together, or sharing a favorite hobby, is a great way to bond. If Dad likes woodworking or fishing, finding a class to attend together goes beyond gifting tools and allows fun.
Enjoy a movie night together with popcorn, candy and all the fixings. Home movies enable strolls down memory lane, or one of his favorite movies from his childhood makes for fun conversation. Ordering a projector for a large format screening makes the movie night feel extra theatrical.

Take the food pressure off Dad and invite local culinary experts to prepare a meal. A fun theme, based around his favorite vacation, such as Hawaiian food, will make the evening memorable. Alternatively, try a local cooking class together based on his favorite cuisine.
Brainstorm childhood memories together and enjoy a day reliving them. If he chaperoned a trip to the zoo, experience it again together. If short on time, stop at a favorite ice cream stand and tell him how much you cherish the memories.
