LIFESTYLE LETTER
Hello friends, This month, we focus on design and style. Colors, textures, lighting, shapes, function and fabrics. These are all means of self-expression. And that's what style is all about. Finding a means to tell our personal story, share our journey with the world. Our home is full of art from talented family and friends, reminding me of special relationships and meaningful moments. Our shelves and ledges are lined with more than 40 antique gumball and vending machines that my husband has collected over the years. One distributed a single cigarette for a penny, usually sitting at the edge of a bar. Another napkin holder also provided a fortune for a coin. The oldest was made in 1902, a penny for a gumball. He started collecting machines as a teen, following his mom, an interior designer, to antique malls and estate sales. I love the collection. They are colorful, interesting to look at and remind me of my husband's playful side. What do you collect? Send me a note; I'd love to know more! Enjoy this issue and stay in touch.

SMART and BEAUTIFUL Window treatments are trending in the design world. ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS
While the last of summer’s rays flood the house and drapes are drawn mid-day, it’s time to think about the change of seasons and consider easy and beautiful interior updates. Window treatments are a key design element that are practical but never boring. With automation options, and more colors, fabrics, textures and styles than you could imagine, it’s time to call in the professionals. For more than three decades, Classic Blinds & Shutters has helped homeowners throughout Metro Atlanta create custom blinds, shades, shutters and draperies. We asked owner Andrea Zare to share her timely thoughts on beautiful and functional window treatments. Classic Style Linen blends, textured woven fabrics, subtle patterns and velvet accents are leading this season’s trends. Pinch Pleat, Euro Pleat and Ripplefold draperies are customer favorites, while understated trim provides the finishing touch. Many of these styles can be automated for simple operation. Automation Motorized window treatments allow homeowners to schedule opening and closing times, control their shades with a smartphone or remote or use voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home. Hushed motors, rechargeable battery options and one-touch scenes bring convenience with luxury. Color and Texture Warm neutrals like ivory, oatmeal, sand, mushroom, taupe and greige are being paired with olive, cinnamon, terracotta, mocha, charcoal and deep navy. Layering sheer fabrics with decorative draperies creates depth, privacy and a sophisticated designer polish.

Get Your Groove On Wire & Wood Songwriters Festival The City of Alpharetta will welcome music fans back to downtown for the 13th annual Wire & Wood Songwriters Festival on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10. The free, two-day event is expected to attract more than 20,000 attendees and transform the city center into a lively outdoor music destination. Festivalgoers can enjoy more than 30 live performances across six outdoor stages, plus have the opportunity to purchase tickets to an intimate indoor listening session at Roaring Social that highlights the art and craft of songwriting. The festival celebrates the stories behind the songs, featuring a diverse mix of Americana, folk, country, rock and roots-inspired music, while offering fans an up-close look at the creative process. This year’s headliners are nationally recognized acts with Southern roots. Friday night will feature acclaimed country singer-songwriter Corey Smith, and platinum-certified rock band Sister Hazel will close out the festival Saturday night. Corey Smith (Friday Night): Beloved for his honest lyrics and grassroots success story, Corey Smith has built one of the most enduring independent careers in modern country music. A former high school teacher, Smith launched his career on his own terms, cultivating a devoted fan base through relentless touring and self-released albums. His 2003 debut album, Undertones, introduced audiences to his authentic Southern storytelling and working-class themes. Follow-up releases, including In the Mood, The Good Life and HardHeaded Fool, further cemented his reputation as a respected songwriter and producer.

More than 50 Alpharetta restaurants within the festival footprint will offer to-go bites throughout the weekend, giving music fans plenty of options for picnicking near the stages. In addition to the culinary offerings, festivalgoers can explore the Live Art Lounge, where artists and fans create original works, and visit the Music Makers Market, featuring vendors with music-inspired art, handcrafted goods and specialty items that capture the spirit of the festival. Additional performers for the 2026 Wire & Wood Songwriters Festival will be announced soon. Fall has long been associated with fashion renewal; a time for combing through closets, checking trends and planning budgets for the new season. While traditional portfolios often center on stocks and real estate, a growing number of investors are turning to something more tangible: jewelry. Equal parts personal adornment and financial asset, fine jewelry offers a unique intersection of beauty and long-term value. Few understand this balance better than Amy Barbree, owner of Barbree & Co., a f ine jewelr y buyer based in Chamblee. With over three decades of experience, Barbree has built a reputation rooted in trust, expertise and relationship-driven ser vice. But her journey into the industr y began long before her company’s founding. “I was introduced to the retail and jewelry world through my family. My father owned gift stores in the early 1990s. After he suffered a stroke, I stepped in to help support our family, which led me to take a very hands-on approach to building my career,” she shares. “I began traveling across the country selling Native American jewelry wherever I could connect with customers. That experience taught me resilience, adaptability and the importance of building trust with every interaction.” Today, that foundation informs how Barbree navigates an evolving market—one currently shaped by inflation, shifting consumer preferences and recordhigh precious metal prices.
“In today’s market, precious metals, particularly gold and silver, continue to be among the most reliable physical assets for preserving value,” Barbree explains. “They have historically served as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty, while also offering diversification within a broader investment portfolio.” This stability is driving a noticeable uptick in selling activity. As gold and silver prices climb, many individuals are choosing to liquidate assets they’ve held for years. “Many clients are taking advantage of these strong market conditions to convert unused or inherited jewelry into cash,” Barbree notes. Yet the value of jewelry isn’t always obvious. Pieces that feel outdated, or even broken, can still carry significant worth. “Many people have valuable items tucked away without fully realizing their worth,” she says, emphasizing the importance of professional evaluations to uncover hidden value. For those looking to invest, Barbree advises patience over quick returns. “Precious metals and physical assets tend to perform best over time rather than as a short-term investment,” she explains. “Patience and consistency are key.” Still, not every piece should be reduced to its market value. When it comes to family heirlooms, Barbree encourages thoughtful consideration. “If there is any hesitation, it’s often best to hold onto the piece. For many, the decision ultimately comes down to personal significance versus practicality.” As the investment landscape continues to shift, one thing remains clear: the most meaningful investments are often the ones you can hold in your hands. 3666 North Peachtree Road Suite #400, Chamblee BarbreeAndCo.com

concierge appears, unhurried and warm, with a cool towel, a welcome drink, a gentle message and the quiet confidence of someone who already knows what you need. This is how Grand Velas begins. Not with a check-in. With a warm, kindhearted welcome. Begin your morning every day with a walk along the beach, where the cast of fish, whales, Sandpipers, Pelicans and Frigatebirds await to entertain. After the beach, head directly to the SE Spa, a Forbes Five Star Luxury Spa, for one of the over 30 holistic treatments offered. Do not miss the SE Spa Water Journey, a perfect addition to an afternoon of being pampered. Whether it’s cocktails and lite bites at the Aqua Bar, lunch at Azul, or an incredible dinner at either Lucca or Piaf; every thought has gone into creating delicious food and amazing cocktails. Each experience is better than the last; trust me, be sure to try them all!

Perched on the northern rim of Banderas Bay, where the Sierra Madre Mountains rise in quiet majesty behind a coastline of endless, untamed beaches, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit doesn’t simply sit beside the sea; it surrenders to it. Endless beach stretches in both directions from the heart of the property, as if the resort was placed precisely where the Pacific Ocean decided to stop for a margarita. Cradled by some of Riviera Nayarit’s most breathtaking natural beauty, Grand Velas is one of Mexico’s most extraordinary all-inclusive resorts where an approach to hospitality unlike anything else in the world arrives softly — full of grace, free of pretense and unmistakably its own. The open-air lobby at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit features one of the tallest and most iconic thatched-roof (palapa) structures in the destination. Standing several stories high, this massive, intricately woven palm structure is the crown jewel of the resort’s entrance. Your

Bringing Style Home Pro tips on interior design from Allie Hauser We express our personal style every day, with what we pull from our closet and how we present ourselves to the world. If pressed, we could probably silo ourselves into a fashion category: timeless classics, urban expressive, boho or romantic. We take the time and effort (and expense) to choose clothes that help us feel our best and perhaps hint at our nature. Allie Hauser, owner of The Designery Atlanta, has opinions on style, though her medium is not fashion, but interior design. Allie loves that a significant part of her day is focused on helping customers find their style. It’s her pleasure to then express that through design choices, whether it’s a new build or renovation. We caught up with Allie in her sunny showroom to talk fall trends and beautiful spaces.
Q: YOU DESIGN KITCHENS, BATHROOMS AND CLOSETS AROUND METRO-ATLANTA. HOW DO YOU CAPTURE THE ESSENCE OF A CLIENT’S PERSONAL STYLE AND TRANSLATE THAT TO YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN?
A: Start with an overall viewing of their home; how is it currently decorated, style and lifestyle. What they like about it and what they would like to change. Define their aesthetic and functional goals. What colors and materials they prefer. Ask if they have collected any images or their own mood board for inspiration; a picture is worth a thousand words. Translate what they have shared into actual colors, material selections and overall design layout.
ARTICLE BY SUE G. COLLINS

Q: WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU SEEING FOR FALL: PRODUCTS, MATERIALS AND COLORS?
A: Following seasonal trends for kitchen or bath renovations is not recommended unless that is the color palette you want to live with year-round; accessories can introduce color and alter the vibe. Nature-inspired autumnal colors in countertop items, botanicals, wall art and even towels that reflect the season are an easy and inexpensive way to accomplish this. Current trends are leaning into classic contemporary style with nature-inspired colors and natural wood tones on cabinets. Tiles that are or appear to be handmade, minimal hardware in warm metal finishes and natural stone counters all contribute to a layered and visually interesting look.
Q: FOR A KITCHEN OR BATHROOM WITH A TON OF LIGHT, WHAT DESIGN OPPORTUNITIES DO YOU EXPLORE?
A: A kitchen or bath with a lot of light does give you more options. You can lean into it with lighter elements; go with either shiny or matte surface finishes as well as light colors. Using deeper colors and wood tones to create a moodier vibe can also work since the ample natural light will help avoid it becoming a cave-like space.
Q: FOR A SMALL CLOSET, WHAT ARE A FEW HACKS FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF THE SPACE?
A: A well-planned-out small closet can often store significantly more than a larger, poorly organized one. Here are a few rules of thumb to consider: • Prioritize double hanging wherever possible. One long hanging section does not maximize space; it instead creates unused valuable space in a small closet. One long hanging section used for the longest garments in the closet is sufficient. • When possible, I like to build from the floor to the ceiling, utilizing every inch of buildable space in the closet. Store seasonal items on the highest shelves. • Do not go overboard on drawers. Drawers are useful for items that cannot sit nicely on shelves. All other items can be neatly stored on adjustable shelving. Seeing what you own is key to a well-organized space. Adjustable shelving helps maximize space as your needs evolve. • Customize the closet to YOUR needs based on your belongings. The Designery 6080 Sandy Springs Cir. Making a Home
Their Own Danielle Maslan Interiors is a full-service interior design firm serving metro Atlanta. Danielle brings a hands-on, collaborative approach to every renovation and furnishing project, designing homes that feel warm, luxurious and personal to each individual client.
WHEN YOU MET WITH THE FAMILY, WHAT WERE THEIR GOALS FOR THE DESIGN?
This was a large-scale renovation for a young family in Dunwoody. They came to me wanting the home to finally feel like them:
more color, more personality, more pattern. The bones were there, but the spaces didn’t reflect who they were at all. Beyond the aesthetic refresh, they had some very specific functional goals: better flow between the kitchen and screened-in porch, a dedicated prep kitchen with added storage, a mudroom and a primary bathroom that felt like a retreat. It was a full transformation, inside and out.
WHAT ARE A FEW OF YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENTS OF THIS PROJECT?
The color and pattern work throughout is what I’m most proud of. On the porch, we worked with deep sage and olive greens that feel lush and tie into the beautiful wooded backyard. The prep kitchen has playful pink cabinetry paired with authentic terrazzo flooring in earthy tones; it’s joyful and unexpected. The primary bathroom has deep green-gray cabinetry anchored by the most beautiful floral wallpaper. The lighting was also a real focus: oversized globe pendants and wall sconces on the porch, and polished nickel and glass vanity lights in the bath that catch the light off the tile in the best way.
WHAT ARE THREE “GET THE LOOK” ITEMS OR DESIGN ELEMENTS YOU CAN RECOMMEND TO OUR READERS?
Layered texture, soft curves and authentic materials: I come back to these on every single project. Texture is what gives a room depth. I always mix textiles, leather, natural wood and metal so the eye has somewhere interesting to travel. Soft curves, whether in a piece of furniture or a custom architectural detail, bring a sense of ease and calm that a room full of hard lines just can’t achieve. Lastly, natural materials are non-negotiable for me. There’s no substitute for authentic stone, solid brass, handcrafted tile or natural fiber textiles. You can always tell the difference, and so can your clients. DanielleMaslanInteriors.com Valarda Residential Contractors were instrumental. Valarda.com

NOW TRENDING: STRONG IS STYLISH ARTICLE BY KYLIE STRAWN-BADGER
Imagine a gym that has been built around helping women approach fitness in a way that is both effective and sustainable. With a focus on evidence-based strength training and time-efficient workouts, Discover Strength specializes in guiding women through a simplified, science-backed approach that prioritizes long-term health, confidence and real results over trends or extremes. For many women, strength training can feel intimidating, time-consuming or simply not designed for them. The biggest barriers are not physical, but are rooted in misconception. The belief that you need to commit to three to five workouts per week is often enough to stop someone from starting at all. In reality, research shows that strength training just one to two times per week can provide meaningful health benefits when done correctly. The focus is not on frequency alone, but on efficiency, working all major muscle groups and training with enough intensity to challenge the body. This shift in approach makes strength training far more accessible, especially for women balancing careers, families and full schedules. Another common concern is the fear of developing a bulky or masculine appearance. Physiologically, this is highly unlikely. Women naturally have significantly lower testosterone levels than men, which limits the ability to build large muscle mass. Instead, strength training supports a more toned, defined look, as muscle is denser than fat and contributes to improved body composition. While physical changes are often the most visible, they are far from the most important. Strength training has a measurable impact on long-term health outcomes. That benefit alone positions strength training as one of the most powerful tools for longevity. It also plays a critical role

in preserving bone density, which naturally begins to decline around age 30. For women, this is especially important in reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures later in life. Beyond bone health, strength training supports metabolic function and hormonal balance. It improves insulin sensitivit y, helping regulate blood sugar and reduce inf lammation, and plays a role in balancing cortisol, estrogen and progesterone. These factors are particularly impactful for women navigating perimenopause and menopause, where symptoms like mood swings, fatigue and hot f lashes can become more pronounced. There are also significant cognitive and emotional benefits. Strength training increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which supports brain health and the development of new neural pathways. At the same time, it triggers the release of endorphins, serotonin and dopamine, chemicals that improve mood, reduce stress and contribute to an overall sense of well-being. A simple, sustainable routine is often the most effective. Sessions as short as 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice per week, can build strength when centered around compound movements like leg presses, rows, chest presses and pulldowns. These exercises engage multiple muscle groups at once, maximizing results in less time. Discover Strength Alpharetta delivers 30-minute strength workouts, twice per week, with an expert trainer. Men and women are most welcome! DiscoverStrength.com/Alpharetta 4190 Old Milton Pkwy Ste 2g, Alpharetta

CONNECTING FITNESS AND Community When the FitLife EXPO launched in 2021, the idea was simple: bring people back together. Six years later, it’s one of North Atlanta’s favorite traditions - bringing together local businesses, families, nonprofits and the opportunity to connect and engage people while making an impact on the community. Built around the mission to Connect. Engage. Impact, the FitLife EXPO was created as a free community event celebrating health, wellness, fitness and healthy living - but the vision was always bigger than wellness. Today, more than 1,500 people attend the annual event in Downtown Alpharetta, hosted in partnership with the City of Alpharetta and sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottling United. What began as a one-day wellness event has grown into one of North Atlanta’s favorite fall traditions by continually finding new ways to engage the community.
The FitLife EXPO is about making wellness accessible through local businesses, organizations and resources that may be new to you. 34

The North Fulton Community Charities food drive has been part of the EXPO since year one, while newer additions, including the One Step Closer Breast Cancer Walk benefiting the Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer, the Community Impact Zone featuring local nonprofits and this year’s pet parade, have created even more opportunities for attendees to connect, give back and have fun. This year also introduces the FitLife EXPO Wellness Weekend, inviting visitors to Come for the EXPO. Stay for the Weekend! With special hotel packages, the Wire & Wood festival, outdoor recreation, shopping, dining and free fitness opportunities throughout Alpharetta, guests can turn one great day into an unforgettable weekend. The FitLife EXPO is about making wellness accessible through local businesses, organizations and resources that may be new to you. Whether you’re participating in a pop-up fitness class, sampling healthy treats, walking the One Step Closer Breast Cancer Walk, cheering on the Pet Parade, exploring the Community Impact Zone,
supporting the food drive or visiting the booths and interactive exhibits throughout the EXPO, there’s something for everyone, even a Kid’s Zone. The 6th Annual FitLife EXPO is set for Sunday, October 11 at Alpharetta City Center and Admission is free.
