SCHOOL NEWS Lake Windward Elementary School celebrated Exceptional Children’s Week in early March by holding a virtual talent show for their special education students.

Some students appeared in music videos and others took over the televised morning announcements for the week. A Webb Bridge Middle School sixth grader, inspired by a social studies unit on endangered species, led a school-wide initiative to raise funds to support jaguars – an endangered animal as well as the school’s mascot.

Through a Pajama Day and Hat Day fundraiser, he and his fellow students raised $370 to symbolically “adopt a jaguar” (a stuffed one) that would support research and conservation of the jaguar population through the World Wildlife Foundation.

It is important to find ways to keep growing and learning as an artist. For me, many of the greatest opportunities I have been given and things I have learned over the years came from networking with other musicians and educators. Most importantly, do not let anyone tell you that you cannot make a living in the arts! There are a variety of arts-related careers you can be successful in and passionate about, including performance, education, administration, business, technology, and therapy. Love what you do for a living!
