IN A STORM. The relentless kind of hundred-year storm with unforgiving blasts of torrential winds and driving rain that knocks you right off your feet. I don’t want to dwell on it… but do want to acknowledge the battered souls the year left in its wake. But, we’re going to be ok. I’m exhausted, but hopeful. I for one am thankful that you’re reading this magazine and that you have a beautiful local magazine to read! Our publisher and sales team have been sailing this ship, sometimes propelling it with sheer will. Juliet Designs Home was established in 2015. Julie’s love of home decor transformed her business from decorating for her friends and renovating her own home to interior design and opening up her home decor shop in Canton as well as an online store. She finds joy in curating home decor that brings warmth and comfort to a room. For this holiday issue, Julie decorated the most important rooms: the family room, dining room, kitchen and her guest carriage house. Most of these stunning products are available in her shop at Cotton Mill Exchange in Canton and at her online store. “My team and I choose to work with Julie because of her years of experience in the home decor and design industry, as well as her love and passion for home decorating. She has the ability to turn a dull room or home into one that is inviting,” says Mary Ellen. “We love her style and decor because she is up to date with the latest trends and brings a feeling of warmth and comfort to a room while reflecting the personality of her clients.”

EVER SINCE I COULD WALK, I HAVE BEEN ATTACHED TO A MICROPHONE AND MY PARENTS COULD NOT SEPARATE ME FROM SINGING, ACTING OR DANCING. I used to put on concerts in my living room with a hairbrush. No matter what I am feeling at home or in life, I can walk into the theater and forget about everything and just perform. My first show was The Little Mermaid and I have been hooked ever since. When I am performing, it is my catharsis and the only place where I have the ability to just focus and tell a story. I perform in around four shows a year at both Alpharetta High School and at my dance studio Core Dance and Acrobatics.

Alpharetta Lifestyle | December 2020
I am constantly running between rehearsals and auditions. I was recently chosen to participate in the 2020 Governor’s Honors Program for Theatre, and I also just performed in the All-State Opening Number at the Georgia Thespian Conference. My passion for musical theatre is unmatched and it means the world to me that I could possibly do this for a living. I hope to major in Musical Theatre and I am currently in the middle of the first-ever virtual college musical theatre auditions. WHERE SHE SHOPS: I absolutely love going to downtown Alpharetta and visiting some of the cute boutiques there for gifts. I also am constantly visiting North Point Mall to buy clothes from Forever 21 or American Eagle. VIEWING AND SINGING ALONG: My all-time favorite Christmas movie is Elf and we watch it together at my Grandmas’s house every holiday season. My favorite Christmas/Holiday song is “All I want for Christmas is you” by Mariah Carey. It’s a classic. I will also be singing it at my dance recital with Core Dance and Acrobatics in December. THE ULTIMATE PARTY: I would invite Natalie Weiss, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Ben Platt. These are all musical theatre icons of mine and it would be so cool to have them all in the same room as me celebrating the holidays. GIVING BACK: I give back to the community through teaching. I recently helped teach the preschool class at my dance studio ballet and tap. I also am the teaching assistant for the Musical Theatre class at Alpharetta High School. The way I give back to the community is through teaching children theatre. I think it is very beneficial and transformative to be teaching. It is so much fun to see them grow into young actors/dancers and it’s an amazing thing to be a part of. CityLifestyle.com/Alpharetta

STEVEN RUSSELL OF SPECIAL K’S IS ONE OF ONLY 19 STUDENTS WHO WERE CHOSEN TO REPRESENT GEORGIA AS A YOUTH AMBASSADOR FOR 2020. Only 19 students were chosen to be a Youth Ambassador in the United States and Special Olympics Georgia staff selected Steven because of his outstanding leadership skills and his heart for inclusion. The Special Olympics U.S. Youth Ambassadors are a group of youth leaders with and without intellectual disabilities who are striving to make the nation a more inclusive place for all. These youth leaders act as advocates, share stories, and demonstrate the values of Inclusive Youth Leadership across the country. Through training, engagement, and activation at the national level, U.S. Youth Ambassadors are strong leaders of the Inclusion Revolution. Steven is a multisport star with Special Olympics Georgia. He competes with the Special K’s, a Special Olympics agency based in north Fulton. Steven excels in cycling, soccer, long-distance running, and basketball. Earlier this year, he went from running in a 5k fundraiser for Special Olympics Georgia to playing in a soccer tournament at the Atlanta United training grounds. Steven was also part of the Special K’s Marathon by Midnight relay team, helping to raise $3000 to support Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Steven brings maximum effort to everything he does! He enjoys healthy snacks of apples and bananas and on a special occasion, celebrates by eating at Golden Corral with his family.
