Hello Alpharetta!

SEPTEMBER 2017

Photography Fredrik Brauer

W

hen big-time Atlanta fashion journalist and entrepreneur Tova Gelfond (Eide Magazine) paused for a minute to become a mother, we coyly asked if she'd be willing to join our fashion issue as a guest editor. Between moving house (she moved from Sandy Springs to Grant Park recently) and welcoming the precious Ayla, Tova explored a fall fashion outlook for us. Lucky you! Enjoy Tova's picks and look for more from her (if we're really lucky). We've also shopped ITP and nearby here OTP to hand pick some favorite fall finds. Post yours on our Facebook page and let's see your style!

We're gearing up for Polo in the Pines, October 7 and 8, one of our favorite events of the year. As media sponsor, we work closely with the founders and organizers to help them fill the field with supporters like YOU. Consider joining as a sponsor or spectator as we raise funds for CHOA. Enjoy this issue and stay beautiful!

Be experimental with your moto manifesto by throwing a classic leather jacket over a maxi dress or jumpsuit. Bring in other expedition elements though leather biker boots and metal studs. SHOW ‘EM YOUR STRIPE S

Stripes remind us of faraway places, like nautical navy lines that take you to beaches unknown. But this season’s stripes are not in the norm — they’re gutsy, bright and come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Having bold lines on your fashion pieces this season will not only amplify your look, but can accentuate your body. Use slenderizing vertical streaks to show off your curves and whittle your waist. Or use horizontal bars to enhance your bustline or hip area. Alfani Striped Tunic Shirt, $79.50, Macy’s. Betsey Johnson Embroidery Backpack, $118, Macy’s. TURN ON THE TEXTURE S

Fall fashion textures are like an epic mashup of textile’s greatest hits. Velvet has made its return to the limelight to critical acclaim, but is more elevated than last season. The soft, crushed fabric can be found with patterns, shoes and accessories, and worn with suedes and silks. HEAVY METALS

Partially part of an ’80s revival, and also due to a general obsession with shine, metallic fabrics and accessories will steal the spotlight with golds, pewters, silvers and bronze. Don’t be afraid to have fun with these tinny tones even in a casual getup. Metallic sneakers pair perfectly with a disco-ball top or muted dress. However you want to represent this lustrous trend, it’s hard to go wrong, so fully embrace this glitteratti statement. FRYE Lena Harness High, $258, Frye Atlanta. This fall, it’s all about the neckline, and you can do better than the average turtleneck. Victorian collars with Shakespeare-era ruffles have donned the runways, and it doesn’t stop there. usy moms and dads can always use some help in the kitchen, especially during the hectic back-to-school season.

Stephanie and Ken Wright, a Forsyth County-based couple with a passion for food and family, offer up just the solution. Their company, Dinner A'Fare, which is headquartered in Suwanee, delivers fresh, healthy meals ready to assemble in a few simple steps and designed to please the whole family. Many locals are familiar with Dinner A’Fare as a former nationwide franchise with a strong presence in metro Atlanta. Customers would visit the stores and prepare their own fresh, healthy meals to take home freezer-ready. Now, Dinner A'Fare is the only company to evolve from a meal-assembly concept to a meal-delivery service while still holding true to its core -- simple, fresh and delicious. Delivery is currently available throughout metro Atlanta, and customers are served nationwide by shipping. “Some of my favorite childhood memories involve growing fresh foods on my grandparents’ farm in North Carolina,” comments Stephanie Wright, co-founder of Dinner A’Fare. “Our goal is to make quality meals accessible and convenient for everyone. By taking care of all the shopping, chopping and prepping, we make it faster and easier to cook for your family. Busy schedules shouldn’t keep you from enjoying delicious, homemade dinners together.” Dinner A'Fare is available on your schedule with no subscriptions. The meals arrive fresh, but are designed to be frozen and focus on center of the plate. Getting dinner on the table requires minimal hands-on time with the prep work already done.

36

AlpharettaLifestylePubs.com | September 2017

The recipes are easy to understand and often require only two steps. The chef-crafted meals feature farm fresh vegetables, gourmet spices and hand-made sauces with all-natural chicken breasts, hand-cut pork chops, steaks and pork tenderloins. “Our customers love that Dinner A’Fare meals are kid-friendly and customizable with finishing spices and sauces that can be added or left out to fit particular palates in the household,” says Wright. “We love experimenting with new flavors and adding twists to familiar recipes. The menu changes every month, and customers can select the meals they prefer.” Coming from a long line of entrepreneurs and combining backgrounds in art, food and business, the Wrights put their passion into action every day. Their Forsyth home has become the unofficial test kitchen for Dinner A’Fare, gardening and developing different menus as a family, even including their 9-year-old daughter, Geneva, in the process. “I think the company has been successful because customers can feel that personal touch in our dinners,” says Wright. “Helping to feed families and make mealtime special is one of our greatest joys.” Dinner A’Fare meal kits are offered in sets of 12 and designed to serve families of 2-3 or 4-6; individual servings are also available. Each meal is packaged in one convenient parcel with every ingredient included to take up minimal space in your refrigerator or freezer. Prices start at $189. Nissan Armada Platinum 4WD

2017 Nissan Pathfinder 4WD

ARTICLE DENNIS MALCOLM BYRON 42

AlpharettaLifestylePubs.com | September 2017

A

s the days begin too cool things off reaching the end of the year, inclement weather and challenging driving conditions are sure to follow. From

daily errands to family road trips, the mid-sized 2017 Nissan Pathfinder and larger Armada would certainly help take on the fall and winter seasons resourcefully, safely and comfortably. The reviewed Platinum trims Nissan provides will make traveling that much more luxurious as well.

2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER 4WD

Ever since the Pathfinder SUV was introduced to the world in 1985, it has continued to set the standard for the segment for more than 30 years. Considering its sleek exterior, chrome accents, roof rails and numerous internal upgrades, virtually everything has changed except for its regal status in the industry. The impressive 3.5-liter V6 engine and its 284 horses under the hood are controlled by the unrivaled 2WD, 4WD, and Auto Modes, plus XTRONIC CVT for smoother power transmission. Pampering accessories including heated leather seating, tri-zone automatic temperature control, BOSE Premium Audio System, sexy wood-tone trim, Bluetooth streaming, and the signature Latch and Glide technology for easy accessibility make up to seven passengers ride in style. To keep things tech savvy, one VTR jack, 12V outlets, and one 120V outlet provides electric powering for numerous devices as well. Considering the plethora of safety features such as the Around View Monitor, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, and Forward Emergency Braking, Nissan does a fine job maintaining Pathfinder’s legendary status at a reasonable price under 45K. MSRP: $43,560 including destination charge and all options as reviewed GAS MILEAGE: 19 city/26 highway/21 combined

2017 NISSAN ARMADA PLATINUM 4WD

The Armada shares many of the technological advancements the Pathfinder possesses, but is larger and packs more brawn inside and outside. Starting with the engine, the flexing 5.6-liter, 32-valve Endurance V8 engine packs 390-horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque with a 7-speed automatic transmission. This power enables drivers to haul the necessary cargo to make any trip that much more adventurous with 8,500-lb maximum towing capacity and up to 1,584 pounds of maximum payload. However, this amount of brawn comes with a cost; its only drawback is the thirsty average of 15 miles to the gallon. With its muscular frame sitting on chromed 20-inch, 8-spoke wheels, maneuvering is eased by the gracious Around View Monitor with eight sensors making up the front and rear sonar system; everything from parking to detecting objects become a lot easier especially in crowded parking lots. This luxurious vessel’s cabin is also lined with leather upholstery, plus a 13-speaker BOSE system, and hours of entertainment thanks to the two, seven-inch WVGA color displays equipped with two wireless headphones. Considering the long list of safety features, exterior embellishments and other technological enhancements the Armada delivers, anyone desiring a large SUV to literally sit them high on the throne needs to look no further. BASE PRICE: $61,735 including destination charge and all options as reviewed GAS MILEAGE: 13 city/15 highway/18 combined
