REDISCOVER YOUR HOME

Emily Foster is a self-taught interior designer from Albuquerque, NM. She took her obsession for interiors and turned it into a thriving business 6 years ago. Emily believes that a home needs to be lived in and functional, but needs to also be beautiful. “I truly believe that happiness starts in the home. Helping my clients rediscover their home again is my love language.”

Emily Foster Interiors offers not only interior design help with new-builds and remodels, but also helps clients organize and “reimagine” their current home.

“Not every home has to lose a wall or have the backsplash torn out. Sometimes all that the home needs is a refresh. I love rearranging furniture, paintings and decor to different parts of the home. It wakes up the home and gives it and the people that reside in it new energy.”

Whether it’s a new build, remodel or just a space refresh, Emily Foster Interiors is here to help.

BED AND BREAKFAST –  Find a romantic bed and breakfast in a quaint town with old-time charm. You can stroll through historical neighborhoods, window-shop, enjoy local eateries and old-fashioned ice cream, take a riverfront walk, and check out historical sites.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE – Remember those carefree days before the kids came along? Make your reservation at a hotel in the area where you met. Then spend the weekend revisiting your past. Eat at the restaurant of your first date, visit parks you frequented, or even reenact some of your most memorable dates.

LOVER’S LANE DELIGHT –  Find accommodations with an in-room Jacuzzi, then dedicate your first evening to a mini-shopping spree at Victoria’s Secret or Frederick’s of Hollywood. Choose apparel for each other to try on and discover what you each like. Then spend the weekend savoring each other and rekindling the romance. Don’t forget to bring fragrant candles, a portable stereo, your favorite music, and other fun stuff for your weekend.

A WEEKEND OF CULTURE AND CLASS – Buy tickets to an area play, musical, or event. Then choose a top-notch hotel with fine dining and luxurious rooms near the event. Don’t forget to take along your best attire.

“Enjoy a weekend of relaxing fun, sunshine, and sleeping under the stars.”

MUSIC LOVER’S WEEKEND –  Buy concert tickets then plan a weekend of musical merriment. Reserve a room near the concert hall. Then catch a cab for a guaranteed designated driver.

WINTER RESORT –  If you like the cold and snow, try a winter recreation resort. Then hit the slopes or cross-country trails, toboggan, or go ice skating. When you’re done, warm up with hot cocoa by a roasting fire.

FESTIVAL FUN –  Contact your visitor’s bureau, chamber of commerce, or check out an online event directory to discover upcoming festivals. Then book a hotel reservation in the area.

CAMPING AND CANOEING –  Enjoy a weekend of relaxing fun, sunshine, and sleeping under the stars. Find a canoe rental facility that offers riverbank camping and overnight trips.

SECOND HONEYMOON –  Renew your vows, and take a second honeymoon. Write your own promise to recite to your partner. You can also exchange gifts that represent your renewed commitment to each other. And don’t forget the honeymoon suite!

MAKE IT A SURPRISE – Pull this off, and you’ll have your partner eating out of your hand. Concoct

a story about going to dinner, to an out-of-town furniture store that you’ve been dying to visit, or whatever it takes to get your partner on the road with you. When you reach your destination, act confused, and explain you got your directions wrong. Pull into a hotel parking lot (conveniently where you’ve already made reservations). Then say you’ll run in and ask for directions. After you’ve checked in, see how far you can drag your partner along before your partner discovers the surprise.

WEEKEND TIPS

Research and plan your weekend getaway, so it isn’t over before you get started.

Talk about your wants and expectations with your partner beforehand so you don’t arrive with different ideas that’ll lead to disappointment. Come to a mutual agreement that meets both of your needs so you’ll both come home feeling renewed. Discuss costs and spending in advance to avoid arguments that could ruin the weekend. Turn your cell phone off to avoid unnecessary interruptions. If you have kids, also give the phone number of where you’ll be staying to the sitter, and remind the kids to call you only in an emergency. Finally, keep in mind some things might not go as planned. Take it in stride, and be flexible because the weekend is just about renewal and enjoying your time together.

METRO POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE

The Metro Police Athletic League (PAL) is a remarkable non-profit organization that is dedicated to fostering strong relationships between children, the community, and law enforcement. By utilizing athletic programs, community service initiatives, and holiday campaigns, PAL plants the seeds of good citizenship, trust, and pride of accomplishment. This recreation-oriented juvenile crime prevention program recognizes the immense potential in connecting police officers and children at an early age, empowering them to develop positive attitudes towards law enforcement as they journey towards adulthood and good citizenship.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH ATHLETICS AND RECREATION

At the heart of PAL’s mission lies the belief that athletic programs and recreational activities serve as powerful tools to create and strengthen the bond between police officers and children in the community. By engaging in sports and recreational pursuits together, children and officers can interact in a positive and supportive environment, breaking down barriers and fostering mutual respect. These programs not only provide children with an outlet for physical activity but also instill valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.

PREVENTING JUVENILE CRIME THROUGH POSITIVE ENGAGEMENT

PAL’s focus on reaching children at an early stage is a key aspect of their success in preventing juvenile crime. By investing in young lives and providing them with positive role models in the form of police officers, PAL aims to divert children from negative influences and guide them towards productive paths.

Through PAL’s community service initiatives, children actively contribute to making their neighborhoods safer and more vibrant. They participate in activities such as neighborhood cleanups, food drives, and mentorship programs, allowing them to experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from giving back. By working alongside law enforcement officers in these endeavors, children witness firsthand the positive impact that collaboration between the community and police can have on their surroundings.

HOLIDAY INITIATIVES: SPREADING JOY AND BUILDING BRIDGES

PAL’s holiday initiatives hold a special place in the hearts of both children and law enforcement officers. These campaigns are designed to bring cheer to underserved communities, ensuring that no child feels left behind during special occasions. PAL organizes shopping trips, food drives, and festive events that create memorable experiences for children while fostering a sense of unity and goodwill between them and the police officers who participate. By celebrating together during holidays, PAL helps dissolve any misconceptions or fears that children may have about law enforcement. The joy and warmth shared during these events plant the seeds of trust and create lasting impressions, shaping children’s perceptions of police officers in a positive light.

The Metro Police Athletic League is a shining example of how organizations can bring children, the community, and law enforcement officers together for a common cause. By using athletics, community service initiatives, and holiday campaigns, PAL cultivates strong relationships that lay the foundation for good citizenship and a harmonious society.

As PAL continues its important work, it remains dedicated to creating a world where children and law enforcement officers can come together, fostering understanding, trust, and pride in the accomplishments they achieve as a community. Happy 50th Anniversary PAL! For more information  https://nmpal.com , P.O. Box 92286, Albuquerque, NM 87199

BEET SALAD RECIPE AND JUICY SMOOTHIE FOR THE HOT AND DRY NEW MEXICO SUMMERS.

Raw Beet Salad

INGREDIENTS

• 1 medium raw beet

• juice of 1/2 fresh lemon

• 1/4-1 tsp fresh grated ginger root

• 1 tsp dijon mustard (optional)

• salt & pepper to taste (optional)

DIRECTIONS

1. Peel and grate the beet.

2. Combine all ingredients (except salt and pepper) in mixing bowl. Taste.

3. Add salt and pepper as desired.

Beets are a sweet root vegetable which help to decongest the liver by thinning the bile. This inturn improves digestion and enhances the body’s natural ability to detoxify. Beets may also help in lowering blood sugar levels. Although fresh is always best, you may make larger batches and store in a glass container in the fridge to be served a few days in a row.

Summertime Juicy Smoothie

Smoothies are all the rage but not all healthcare practitioners consider them the healthiest option. Let’s take a closer look.

While smoothies boast good fiber content and healthy fats, what is not considered is the effect it has on digestion and elimination. According to Ayurveda, the medical system of India, smoothies tend to weaken digestion. In the short term, smoothies are delicious and refreshing.

In the long term, our digestion will be thrown off balance and digestive problems may occur. In addition, protein powders, minerals, and vitamins added to the smoothie will create an additional layer of potential complication for digestion. Not all smoothies are ideal for promoting balanced digestion and elimination.

All that said, we’ve uncovered a delicious and digestive balancing smoothie that will be the best drink for the hot and dry New Mexico summers. Here is a recipe that will rehydrate you, keep digestion balanced, and soothe your heart and soul.

INGREDIENTS

• 1 red apple

• 1 green apple

• 1 pear

• 2-3 carrot sticks

• 1 orange

• 1 lime

• 3-5 celery sticks

• a good handful of fresh cilantro leaves

• 2-3 chunks of fresh ginger (thumbsize), peeled and minced

This recipe yields 25-30 fluid ounces. It pacifies heat and balances dryness through the sweet fruits. The lime and ginger keep you from feeling heavy and groggy after eating, while celery helps to further alkalize and balance the sweetness of the blend. If you are sensitive to sugar, or avoiding sugar in general, please omit the carrots. The cilantro rehydrates, soothes, and even detoxes.

It is a perfect summer juice smoothie.

LOVE YOUR LAZY LAWN

An easy way to help the ecosystem

Give some thought to this. Almost all US fruit and grain crops depend on pollination, yet our insect population has declined by 75% in the last 25 years - and most pollinators are insects.

Fortunately, keeping pollinators (and our local farms) alive couldn’t be easier. Just get lazy about your lawn!

Lawns mowed every two weeks offer more food for pollinators than lawns mowed weekly. So, while you’re lounging on the couch every other Saturday, your longer grass will be supporting American food systems. As a bonus, longer lawns also need less water, so being lazy saves you money, too.

Perfect lawns are literally the empty calories of the ecosystem. By letting go of that green-carpet ideal, you’ll add color to your landscape by allowing dandelions, violets, and white clover to decorate your grass. More important, these “weeds” feed pollinators which, in turn, feed us.

Here’s one more way being lazy can save the world: skip the pesticides. Pesticides kill pollinators, and they’re hardly health food for humans, birds, and pets, either. In fact, research shows that when bees visit plants treated with neonicotinoids (a chemical in most pesticides), even small amounts can build up over time and kill the hive. Neonicotinoids disorient bees and disrupt their fertility. Worse, they can linger in plants and pollen for 2-4 years.

So be a hero. Stay in bed this weekend and stop fussing over your lawn.

“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.”

Happy memories await in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Known for its hot springs, the Rocky Mountain resort city is rich with wildlife and sheer beauty. Located in Grand Country Colorado, the YMCA of the Rockies destination is what vacation is meant to be... packed with frivolous play. Awake to breathtaking mountain views and the sound of songbirds, and after an actionpacked day, witness a dreamy sunset from your personal porch.

Accommodations vary; choose between private cabins, spacious lodge rooms, scenic campgrounds, or yurts. Cabins can sleep up to 12, and are equipped with full kitchens, a fireplace, and a deck. You’ll likely spot some deer outside your front door.

Included in all stays: roller skating, swimming, mini-golf, sports, hiking/biking trails, nature walks, and more. But

You don’t have to do things like have a bunch of transactions, or eStatements to qualify. You’ll earn dividends on balances $500 and greater. There is a monthly fee if you don’t keep a daily balance of $500. You can waive that if you’re over 55 years of age. So, if you don’t plan to keep $500 in the account and you’re younger than 55, get our Free Checking account. It pays rewards too.
