It's AboutAll Style!
Also in this issue, we talk with Deep Singh, the founder of Chukkers of Hope, about his Sixth Annual White Party and Polo Match benefiting St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital and Great Oak Assisted Equine Programs. I will be wearing white after labor day to support these two char ities that are difference makers. Until then, you will find me in my madras plaid shorts working on stories to share about the people, places and businesses that make Aiken the best small town in America!
It is rather ironic that my first issue as Publisher of Aiken City Lifestyle is the Style Issue. In fact, my daughter, who is incredibly stylish, thinks it is hilarious. I’ve marched to my own drummer style-wise for as long as I can remember (and my daughter isn’t impressed). Fortunately for all of us, my path crossed with Rebecca Williams, owner of River Magnolia Photography. On very short notice, she and model Olivia Meunier, with the help of some Aiken boutique owners, styled and sourced a gorgeous photo shoot at La Bourgogne Polo Farm. Of course, style isn’t limited to apparel. In addition to sharing some of their latest home stylings, Director of Interior Design at Aiken Design Center, Nina Bounds, gives some tips on how to prepare for your first meet ing with an interior designer.
The Sixth Annual Chukkers of Hope White Party and Polo Match will feature a competitive match featuring American and international polo players and a white dress-themed party, as the sun sets over the breathtaking Carolina countryside.

First, spend some time getting to know your style. Look for inspi ration in magazines and on sites like Pinterest or Instagram. Collect images and bits of colors and aesthet ics that speak to you. Present those to your designer at the beginning of the process to help the team better understand and craft your personal style and vision for your home.
Are you considering building a custom home, tackling a complete home make-over, or just look ing to spice up an existing living space?
Next, make sure to identify any special needs your space requires. Today’s home styles should be func tional as well as fashionable.
Aiken Design Center’s location, in The Village at Woodside, is a serene setting where homeowners can make all their selections in one place with the guidance of an experienced designer and construction team.

Remodeling can be an excellent way to improve a home’s property value and functionality, but will require a larger investment than just updat ing color and furnishings.
Finally, come to the first meeting with a budget in mind. Costs can vary wildly depending on whether you are giving your interior a facelift or planning a complete overhaul.
The following pages show off the beautiful work of Nina Bounds and her team at the Aiken Design Center. They reflect model homes for Carolina Signature Homes as well as new homes they have designed for clients. They are sure to inspire you!
Coming prepared with an under standing of the needs of your space, your personal style, and your budget will get the relationship with your interior designer off on the right foot.
Aiken Design Center is a full-ser vice design firm that partners with Carolina Signature Homes. While they do take on some remodel projects, their main focus is serving clients who are building new homes. They walk cli ents through the new home building process, working hand in hand with project managers, to make the client’s new home reflect their personality. Their mission is to create beautiful, functional spaces, whether clients are looking for a “from the ground up” experience for a new home or reimag ining an existing space.
Nina Bounds, the Director of Interior Design at Aiken Design Center has some suggestions on what to do before you bring in an interior designer.

What happens when you combine a passion for polo, a heart to serve others, and a fashionable fall event? If you are in Aiken on October 1st, the answer is the Sixth Annual Chukkers of Hope White Party and Polo Match. The evening will be hosted by Deep Singh, a native of Augusta, Georgia, and resident of Aiken, South Carolina. The event represents the marriage of two things Deep is very passionate about; polo and giving back. His ardent love for polo began during a stint in Los Angeles, California. He was a member of the California Polo and Will Rogers Polo clubs where he played for several years. When he returned to the east coast, Deep made Aiken his home. He is a member of both the Aiken Polo Club and Wagener Polo Club, where he and his string of horses play. Teams he has competed with have made a number of finals since 2016 including victories in the Copa de Plata, New Bridge Members Cup, USPA Governor’s Cup, USPA Master Cup, and Jake Kneece Memorial Cup!

Deep first became acquainted with the incredible work that St. Jude was doing in the area of childhood can cer awareness while attending the Patrick Warburton Golf Tournament in Palm Springs, California. Intrigued, that event led to a tour of the St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He had the opportunity to engage one on one with some of the young patients in Memphis and felt an instant connection. He became an advocate for St. Jude and has been raising funds for them since 2014.

“I enjoy hosting the Chukkers of Hope event for two main reasons. Most importantly, I truly believe in the great work the St. Jude researchers and doctors do for the courageous children who have this heartbreaking illness. I know any contribution we can make is going towards saving lives. Also, this event is a great way to bring the community together to experience one of the most exciting and oldest sports - polo, ” Deep said when asked about why he hosts the event each year.

FALL AIKENFASHIONSTYLE ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY REBECCA WILLIAMS This month’s focus on style began with a tour of Aiken boutiques in search of looks that would shine at the rodeo or polo field. If you live in Aiken, you know that equestrian fashion is equally as important as equestrian competitions. Supporting the "shop local" movement is easy to achieve in Aiken. While there are many fine boutiques in our area, the three featured in our shoot are Ginger Bee Boutique, Beyond Bijoux, and Equine Divine, all located on Laurens Street. Each shop had endless options and Olivia Meunier, our model and collaborator, OLIVIA MEUNIER SPORTS UNIQUELY AIKEN LOOKS SOURCED FROM OUR LOCAL BOUTIQUES CONTINUED > FASHION FORWARD | STYLE + BEAUTY22

The following evening we arrived at La Bourgogne Polo Farm with outfits and accessories for eight total looks in hand. At Olivia’s request, Groom Maximilian "Chiqui" Reynose had several polo ponies ready for us to color coordinate with each outfit. Was this extra? Perhaps, but the devil is in the details. Farm owner, David Meunier, stopped by with a warm welcome during the shoot. In addition to the farm, he also owns La Parisienne French Bakery and Restaurant. Open rolling fields with large well established oaks sprinkled throughout made La Bourgogne the perfect location for the shoot. Chukkers of Hope will host their Annual White Party and Polo match there for the first time in October. We hope you enjoy the fun fashion displayed on the following pages. It is available right around the corner! La Bourgogne Polo Farm was the site of our fashion shoot and will host Chukkers of Hope on October 1.
and I received wonderful welcomes from the owners. A beautiful well-structured white jumpsuit from Ginger Bee (a great white party option) immediately stood out to both of us as the perfect look for the cover.
