Happy July, friends! We kick this month off by celebrating July 4th. The long holiday weekend is a great chance to gather with friends and family and enjoy some food, fun, and fireworks. It's the season for summer vacations, whether it's an exotic destination, a road trip to visit family or camp and explore a new area. There are many ways to do it, but every getaway brings fun and builds memories. Our state is different from many in that this is the season that brings many people's least favorite weather. We look for different activities we can do inside and plan our days around the hottest temperatures. There are so many places to go to escape the heat and we're happy to share several ideas with you. The mercury is rising and the stifling Valley temperatures can feel oppressive. But don't let the scorching summer days get you down because there are many fun ways to beat the heat. So when the air conditioning just isn't cutting it and boredom is boiling over consider these options for a bit of refreshing fun.

A COOL AFTERNOON Pecos Park Swimming Pool This public pool offers fun for the entire family. Features include a large water slide, diving boards, splash and spray features, a beach entry deck, and water basketball hoop. They also offer swim lessons for youth ages 6 months to 12 years. Swim fees are $1 for seniors and children, and $3 per adult. Pecos Park Pool is located at 17010 S 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85048. Tempe Boat Rentals Tempe Boat Rentals at Tempe Town Lake has a great selection of watercraft for a family fun day on the lake. Donut boats, paddle boards and kayaks are available to explore the two-mile long lake. For a little extra flare check out the duck, swan or dragon pedal boats. No experience is required to rent. One hour of rental time is required then the price is prorated in 15 minute intervals. Tempe Boat Rentals is located at 72 W. Rio Salado Parkway, Tempe, AZ 85282.

A REFRESHING DAY TRIP Lake Pleasant Spanning the city of Peoria and the town of Morristown, Lake Pleasant is located in the northwest part of the Valley. The lake is an ideal spot for swimming, boating, fishing and even scuba diving; in fact Lake Pleasant is known for being home to some of the best inland scuba diving in the western United States. Divers can explore rock walls, canyons and underwater structures, like the old Waddell Dam. The lake contains approximately 10,000 acres of surface water and when full can reach depths of up to 260 feet, offering a wide variety of terrain for all levels of divers. Rent boats, kayaks and other watercraft at Lake Pleasant Harbor and experience H2-Whoa Hydro Platforms, the world's largest floating water slide. There is so much to see and do at Lake Pleasant Regional Park and Lake Pleasant Harbor.

Canyon Lake Marina and Campground Head to Canyon Lake for a day on the water. This 900acre lake allows visitors to enjoy boating, water skiing, fishing and jet skiing, while the surrounding red-rock canyon walls offer scenic tranquility. There are shaded picnic areas and a large public beach. The lake is stocked with catfish, bass and walleye to name a few. Consider the Dolly Steamboat for a dinner or twilight cruise to experience Canyon Lake from a different point of view.

Adorning it with flowers goes all the way back to the Roman Empire where they would add extravagant bouquets to the large banquet tables. There is also something elegant and inviting about lighting candles at the table while you eat. The tall, sleek, simple candlesticks are my favorite.

Perfect for active families with children ages 7 and up, the park offers something for everyone to enjoy. Test your skills and bravery on courses featuring elements including rope swings and wobbly bridges. The Adventure Course offers hours of obstacles, action elements and more. This course requires you to reach the middle of your palms to a height of 5’11” and guests must be at least 12 years old. Children 12-15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and have a waiver signed. The kid’s version of this course is designed for ages 7-11 and they must be 4’7” to participate, it requires an adult for supervision, and signed waivers. For those looking for an adrenaline rush, there is also a zipline course which is reserved for adults. This course will take place whether it rains or shines. A popular location year-round is Arizona Snowbowl, located on Mount Humphreys. It is a beautiful destination, only 12 miles outside of Flagstaff, and it is one of the oldest continually run ski areas in the country. While skiing is not an option in the warmer months, there are notable alternatives for enjoyable summer activities. If you are looking for exquisite views, visit the all-new Arizona Gondola rides. These take you thousands of feet up in the air for a bird’s eye perspective on Arizona’s gorgeous scenery.
