On a cold, cold morning of a nothing much to do day, Flu Bug watched the rising sun, as in bed he lazily lay. ‘It was time to get up,’ he thought and out of his slimy green bed. With his drip, drippy nose and his eyes all puffy and red.

‘I don’t want to get up Flu Bug started to groan, ‘but there is work to be done, and I mustn’t moan!’ ‘I’m so good at it, at what I do, I’m so good at spreading the horrible flu!’

The Flu Bug loves to share himself with all the people that he sees. He’ll spread himself around a room with every cough and every sneeze.

‘I’m really quite a giving chap, I think you will agree. You know anybody else who gives as much as me?’

‘I’m quite happy to share myself, wherever I may land, I can live on stair rails, knobs and handles, when touched by a snotty hand.’

‘I can live on dirty surfaces, and also in the air. I can live on snotty tissues, I really couldn’t care!’

‘I like to hear you blow your nose when you’re all full of flu. Perhaps you’ll sing my favourite song? Atchoo! Atchoo! Atchoo!’

‘I like to lurk up in your nose and make it really red and runny,

and down your throat I like to hide until your voice goes hoarse and funny!’

With a cough and a splutter a sniff and a sneeze what spurts from your nose is the colour of peas!

‘Don’t you come near Flu Bug,’ tweet birds in the trees, ‘we can’t twitter and sing once we’ve started to sneeze!’

‘Don’t you come near us Flu Bug,’ grunt pigs by the trough’ ‘we can’t eat up our slops if you make us all cough!’

‘Don’t you come near us Flu Bug, buzz off,’ say the bees, ‘how can we make honey if you make us wheeze?’

‘Please don’t come near us Flu Bug,’ quack ducks on the lake, ‘we can’t take off and fly if our wings start to ache!’

If you don’t want to stay in bed and ache all through the day, here are simple rules to follow that will keep Flu Bug away‌.

Keep your mouth well covered,

if you need to cough or sneeze. When you go to wipe your nose,

then, use a tissue not your sleeve.

Put all your dirty tissues down the loo or in the bin.

Please don’t leave them on the floor for Flu Bug to live in.

Keep your hands nice and clean, to stop the coughs and sneezes. This way we can stop Flu Bug from going where he pleases.
