Star letter

I’ve just read the magazine and enjoyed the history page. We were at High Elms today walking the dog and I saw the clock building and I said to my husband ‘I wonder what that’s for?’ Imagine my surprise when I popped into the Co-op at Carlton Parade, picked up a copy and there was my answer in Life In Orpington magazine! POETRY CORNER

Beauty within by Dee Robinson Too fat, too thin, you just can't win, what am I supposed to be? Too clever, too dumb, a wobbly tum, what is it that people see? Eyes too close, or far apart or maybe my nose needs fixing? chest too small or legs too tall, so many opinions mixing. Funny teeth or ginger hair why is this an issue? Snide remarks and judgement passed till tears soak in a tissue. I believe we look just how we're meant to be, when we was born those years ago, if only we could see. See past the way society has made so many feel, see past the scars our body makes when we are left to heal. See past the lines of ageing and past the sagging skin, It covers our body, it’s beautiful; it created life within. If you want to make a change then do it for yourself, but never make the differences for the sake of someone else. Some people may not like this rhyme, Some may disagree, but I open my mind to all and in colour I can see. Do whatever makes YOU happy, Stay true to who YOU are, but most of all be decent, because that will get you far. No need to lie, steal or cheat or bully anyone, it’s hard to believe that people do, just for joy and fun. Some people say they have no choice and some are quite unwell, Others they will laugh then cry because their past was hell. I realise there’s a million stories in each individual’s eyes, and no two people are the same despite the truth or lies. I know there is no certain way; not everyone thinks like me, But one thing I am certain of is the love that there can be. I have seen too many people lie and gossip all night long, when I am in these situations, I feel I don’t belong. He said, she said, that they wanted more, but her friend said that’s she knows what they said before, And now the story’s gone around with added exaggeration And before you know it, lies are believed within a whole damn nation. I’m so done with Chinese whispers and second hand judgement passed, I don’t listen to hearsay gossip or whatever happened last. Compassionate and kind is all I want to be, because that type of beauty is all I want to see, as it comes from within and shines bright from outside, I always want to share the love and spread it far, WORLDWIDE Peace
