A Final Thought

My duties as Mayor are borough-wide in the interests of our residents. In addition, I also ensure Bromley is represented in the important areas of influence, seeking to ensure our aims are understood and appreciated.

The detrimental effect of Covid is the damage caused to our business community with a number of companies unable to continue due to the lack of trade. To assist the recovery, I have undertaken visits to companies who are seeking to promote their businesses to counteract the negative effects.

I enjoyed a recent visit to Orpington for the grand opening of a furniture retailer, Sofology, located in the Crays. It offered a well-designed layout, high quality furniture with original designs coupled with competitive pricing. The initial reaction was good to the delight of staff and management, and further outlets are now being planned.

On Wednesday 14th July, I visited Orpington High Street to meet with some local businesses. A relatively new restaurant, Scala, in the High Street adds a high-class ambience with an original interior design with welcoming staff. A clear indication of faith in the future of the High Street. How marvellous to see the original glass sweet jars in the ‘Mr Sweet’ shop now entering their fourth year of successful trading. The old favourite now being available - the delights of ‘Sherbet Lemons’.

Bromley’s first summer camp for children was opened by the Lady Mayoress and myself on the 26th July at The Warren sports ground in Hayes. Children and young people from across Bromley are being given a wonderful holiday with a variety of sports facilities with expert coaching. I hope the first summer camp will prove to be a great success and continue to be an annual event.

If you would like to arrange a formal visit from the Mayor or Deputy Mayor, please contact the Mayor’s office (mayors.office@bromley.gov.uk or 020 8313 4906), where the Mayoral Team will be delighted to make the necessary arrangements.
