Introduction If the church today wants to reestablish itself as a powerful force on earth for the gospel of Christ, it must return to the movement that Jesus began. The key to global evangelism is not the megachurch, but the many churches of all sizes willing to rekindle the flames of a once powerful disciple-making movement. I’ve had the joy of serving as a lead pastor for more than thirty years. For many of those years, I struggled to establish a simple and reproducible process for disciple-making. Through an in-depth study of the four Gospels, the simple disciplemaking process of Jesus became clear to me. After this study, I’ve developed a process called D-Life as a tool to equip and empower others for a genuine lifestyle of disciple-making. Modeled after Jesus and His six practices of discipleship, D-Life is a simple and biblical disciple-making process that cannot fail. Recognizing its effectiveness, Life Bible Study published D-Life to make it available to others. Since that time, D-Life has spread to hundreds of churches and ministries across the United States and in several countries. Churches of all sizes have hosted D-Life training events, and my wife, Rondie, and I have traveled the country to train thousands of believers for a lifestyle of disciple-making. We have seen the light bulb come on for many who are choosing to be a part of a growing disciple-making movement.

Defining the Greater Work The Greater Work is a book about disciple-making. In the first part of this book, I will seek to define the greater work that Jesus has called us to do and examine how we have lost sight of our supreme purpose in life. We will consider the devastating xvii
