Jeff Gray
Mark Griffin
As a GIS Assistant at the Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS) at Arizona State University, Jeff is responsible for database management and enhancement for both the Central ArizonaPhoenix Long-Term Ecological Research (CAP/LTER) and Energize Phoenix projects. CAP/LTER experience includes identifying and resolving data quality issues. Jeff used SQL and ModelBuilder to automate the majority of the repair processes and the updates of all respective metadata. To increase efficiency of data collection for the Energ Phoenix project Jeff recommended surveyors use the GIS-PRO application on an iPadDuring data collection Jeff extracted data on a weekly basis.

Urban Sustainability RCN: Understanding urban sustainability and improving the ability of policy makers to achieve sustainable management. A Research Coordination Network is a project supported by the National Science Foundation to bring together, analyze, and use existing research. This project is supported by the SEES Program at NSF.
Simple Interactive Map Tool:
“My vision is that a global/interactive map tool be developed for our urban sustainability RCN. {…} to show who works on the climate issues - ie., who are the think tanks on climate research, and what I like about this map is that you can select specific tabs, like Sustainable Cities and find information about those "think tanks" on sustainable cities.
Global Action-Focused Urban Players: The network includes a group of core members who represent the range of “cities in transition”; the core group will include academics, students, postdocs, policy-makers, city planners and managers, and other action-focused urban players from the U.S. and beyond.
Layout & Design:
This is where you find a parallel between the project goals and your skills. To be able to provide a simple and clean user interface that delivers effective information. Intentional design for a multi-cultural audience. One click allows the user interface to be translated into the user’s native language.

Lat Long is easily displayed once it is pulled into ArcMap.
Create & Format data by criteria: -Research Center/Institutions -City Research Sites -Research Themes
Finding latitude longitude for each research site is made easy with LATLONG.net! Using the RCN site to collect information and transform it into a CSV file, which can easily be pulled into ArcMap.
