The Liepaja Special Economic Zone was established in 1997 with the aim of developing trade, industry, as well as shipping and international freight flow via Latvia. The Special Economic Zone occupies virtually all the non-residential territory of the Liepaja city, comprising 3 979 ha or about 65% of the total area. The main sectors of the Liepaja SEZ are: • Port of Liepaja • Industrial area of the city • International airport • Former military base Karosta More than 2000 ha of Liepaja SEZ territory are classified as "free territories", which are available for potential investors for development of business.
