CPS Quickstart for Mac Opening CPS: 1. Open CPS from your desktop icon 2. Click on File > Open from the menu bar. 3. Click on vs1 under the shared area in your sidebar 4. Click on hs-­‐staff > your folder (this is your H: drive) 5. Inside of your H: drive, open the folder CPS and choose the database you want to open (usually it will be called the subject which you teach). Add Students to Class *Your classes should already be created with students, but sometimes students move in and out. These are instructions on how to add new students to current classes* 1. Click on the database which you want to add students to 2. Click on Classes at the top 3. Choose the class period you want to add the student to, then choose New Student 4. Enter the information for the student and click Save Student Creating Lessons A. Create a lesson in a database • A Lesson is similar to an assignment 1. After clicking on the Lessons tab, you should see your databases. Click the database in which you want to create a lesson. 2. Click on Tools > New Lesson 3. Give the lesson a Title > OK 4. Add questions by clicking on the New Question button. B. Creating FastGrade Lessons FastGrade is used when the students have a hardcopy of a worksheet or test. 1. While in the Lessons area, click on Tools > Fast Grade 2. Give your lesson a title 3. The FastGrade window will appear showing the following features: • Title: The name you typed in the CPS Lesson Attributes window • Number of Questions: The number of questions you have successfully added to the FastGrade answer key. • Properties: Opens the CPS Lesson Attributes window • Question Type columns: Question types in individual columns enables you to add various question types to the FastGrade answer key. Notice that there are several types such as multiple choice (MC), T/F, Yes/No, Numeric , Short Answer, etc.

4. Click the blue answer button that corresponds with the question type and correct answer for each question. 5. Repeat Step 4 until you have entered every question into the CPS FastGrade window. 6. Click Save Lesson

Creating Lesson Questions A. Create Lesson Questions • These are the questions on the assignment (Lesson) 1. Click on the Lesson you want to add questions to > +Questions CPS Quickstart for Mac Created on 9/21/10 2:13 PM

**Keep in mind that each question created can be a different template. **Questions can include graphics. Just choose a template which will allow you to add a graphic. The graphic must be in .jpg, .gif, or .bmp formats.

B. Using with ExamView NOTE: ExamView Tests cannot be modified in CPS. They must be modified and saved prior to using with CPS. • Right-­‐click on the ExamView Folder > Add File • Navigate to the folder where your test is saved. If you haven’t changed anything, they should be in Applications > ExamView Pro > Tests • Choose the test you would like to add and click Add. *Going this route will make the questions look nice and neat, but it will not import any essay or short answer questions. Only T/F and multiple choice Connect the Receiver Unit 1. Plug the USB RF device into your computer 2. Choose the einstruction Device Manager from the icon in your top menu bar 3. The Device Manager window will appear. Make sure that the Pulse USB device has been detected. You should see a green check mark next to a picture of the device. 4. If you see a Red X instead, click on Options > Discover Devices. That should get you to the check mark. Engage Lessons *CPS offers three modes of delivery all accessed through the Engage icon. 1. Click on the lesson you want to deliver, then click the Engage icon 2. The Session Setup window will appear. Under Session Type: choose the correct Class which you want to deliver the lesson to. 3. Select in which mode you want to deliver the lesson: a. Teacher Managed Assessment – Allows the Teacher to control the pace through the questions CPS Quickstart for Mac Created on 9/21/10 2:13 PM

b. Student Managed Assessment – Student can control the pace individually. Used with FastGrade lessons so the student can proceed at their own pace. *Be sure the projector is off. It allows you to view the students’ responses. c. Student Managed Practice – Similar to Student Managed Assessment, but only a correctly answered question moves the student on to the next question. 4. Click Start. Depending on the mode you have chosen, you will see various windows.
