DISCRIMINATION IN THE EU IN 2009

As might be expected, across countries wide variations can be seen. The country with the most somber assessment is Sweden, where 68% of citizens feel that the crisis will have an impact. Denmark and the Netherlands follow closely at 67% and 66%, with 65% of Slovenians and Latvians also feeling that the crisis will have an impact on equality and diversity policies in their countries. Conversely, Spanish citizens do not share this view, with 55% expecting no impact (versus EU average of 34% ‘Total No’ answers to this question). The highest ‘don’t know’ responses can be found in Malta and Bulgaria with 39% and 37% respectively. Further countries where more than 30% of citizens answer ‘don’t know’ are Portugal and Cyprus, at 32% and 33% respectively).
