Hybrid Building, Haarlem - NL Building Design, 2008 Situated in a plot facing Spaarne River and sided by elevated motor and railways, the design aimed to transform the impact of the unavoidable vertical solution dued to its plot limited size. The stacking of the brieffed program list was transformed into an opportunity of working with its monumentality by stablishing a dialogue with a historical landmark in the cityscape: an old deactivated panoptical prision. In contrast with the introversion of the prision, the new proposed building proposes to lean its structure towards the city and to serve also as a landmark to the new vector of the urban growth according to Haarlem’s masterplan.

1. pre-fab hollow concrete pilars are connected and filled up

3. secondary steel structure is hanged on the main cables
