A wheely good partnership THEY say ‘charity begins at home’ and so it does, but what about work? Local charities, and there are many worthy causes out there, rely on links with local businesses. Corporate support is crucial. Phil Weaver Automotive, based at Mere Brow, is a new local business, established earlier this year. New name, perhaps, but the same ethos prevails as the driving force behind this independent motor retail business is determined to continue his ongoing partnership with the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. Phil Weaver (above) has over 35 years in the motor trade and is very passionate about the vehicles he sources and sells, along with the customer service and after-sales he provides. He is equally passionate about charity support, in particular his links with the Preston-based cancer charity. Care in Your OWN Home How much should we be paying? How does care at home pricing work? Independent Living is ethical and upfront about our care prices because we feel you should know at the outset the likely cost of care.
We charge £19 per hour, or £13 per 30 minute call If you contact our office in Chorley we will be clear about the cost. We know you are making difficult decisions about care and you deserve to know all the costs involved. If our prices are acceptable to you we are more than happy to visit your home to complete a free no obligation care assessment. As a company we do not pressurise anyone in to using our services – you decide in your own time. A number of care companies refuse to give prices out over the telephone, they say until they understand the tasks involved they cannot provide a price. They then reveal the price when they visit a person’s home. It is usually very expensive, over £20 per hour! We believe this is wrong and that a company should always be able to provide an hourly charge rate. Other care companies provide what looks like value for money care, for example £15 -£16 per hour. However, this often includes “travel time”. This means that you are charged for 1 hour’s care but you only get 40 minutes at your home because the remaining 20 minutes of the hour is travel. When you work it out this care is often more expensive per minute of contact time because you are paying £15 for 40 minutes.

Ingredients 6x sea bass fillets about 140g/5oz each, skin on and scaled 3tbsp sunflower oil Large knob of ginger, peeled and cut into matchsticks 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced 3 fats, fresh, red chillies, deseeded and thinly chopped Bunch spring onions, shredded long-ways 1tbsp soy sauce

1)Season the fish with salt and pepper, then slash the skin three times. Heat a heavy-based frying pan and add 1tbsp oil. Once hot, fry the fish, skin-side down, for five minutes or until the skin

is very crisp and golden. The fish will be almost cooked through. Turn over, cook for another 30 seconds-one minute, then transfer to a serving plate and keep warm. You’ll need to fry the fish in two batches. 2) Heat the remaining oil, then fry the ginger, garlic and chillies for about two minutes until golden. Take off the heat and toss in the spring onions. Splash the fish with a little soy sauce and spoon over the contents of the pan. Serve with stir-fried broccoli or Chinese vegetables and plain boiled rice

Family holiday: we have a static caravan near Skipton which we visit often. What would you change about yourself: Nothing really, I’m happy in my skin, have achieved lots of things and enjoying life to the full. What makes me angry: Poor customer service, though it keeps me in a job; ignorant people. What motivates you to work hard: I lost everything in a previous life and had to rebuild from scratch. That’s all the motivation I need to put a ‘shift in.’ Favourite thing about career: Being a BBC Radio presenter for 20 years is special and to have such a loyal listening following is amazing. Serves 6 - prep time 20 mins, cooking time 2-2¼ hrs Ireland’s national dish for centuries, a hearty, warming dish of chunky lamb, potatoes and onions Ingredients 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil 600g/1lb 5oz shallots, peeled 1.25kg/2lb 12oz boned shoulder of lamb, cut into large chunks 450g/1lb carrots, peeled, halved or quartered if large 1.3kg/3lb medium potatoes, peeled and cut into thick slices 6 thyme sprigs 2 bay leaves 1tbsp Worcestershire sauce Chopped parsley, to serve Method 1 Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Heat half the oil in a large frying pan, then fry the shallots until golden, turning often. Remove and set aside. Add another tbsp of oil to the One hour FREE parking behind Market

Time to bring your investments together? If you have accumulated a number of Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) over the years, keeping them all in one place could give you better control and help you save money. There’s a common misconception that you can’t move your existing ISAs from one provider to another. Transferring your ISAs doesn’t affect its tax-efficient status, but you should make sure that you don’t have to pay penalties or give up valuable benefits. If you want to switch from an existing ISA provider to a new one, you’re perfectly within your rights to do so. Much like a mortgage, you shouldn’t feel as though you’re saddled forever with your first ISA provider choice. Transferring your ISAs could allow you to widen your range of investment choices, as the range on offer can differ between providers.
will count towards your £4,000 Lifetime ISA allowance for the year and qualify for the government bonus, but will not count towards your overall ISA allowance of £20,000 in 2018/19. It is not advisable to transfer from a Lifetime ISA. Transferring your ISAs won’t affect their tax-efficient status, provided you follow the correct process. If you are looking to transfer ISA tax benefits following the death of your spouse or registered civil partner, the survivor can now inherit their ISA tax benefits. This will be in the form of an additional permitted allowance equal to the value of the ISA at the holder’s death and will be in addition to your own ISA allowance.
EASIER TO MONITOR AND MANAGE Another reason to switch is that you could find you’re better off because another provider is offering lower fees and charges. You may also want to move because you prefer to keep all your investments conveniently in one place, where they’re easier to monitor and manage. You can transfer your ISA from one provider to another at any time. You can also transfer from one type of ISA to a different type of ISA – for example, you can move money held in a Stocks & Shares ISA into a Cash ISA, or from a Cash ISA to a Stocks & Shares ISA. From Chorley area follow Wigan Road (A49) through Euxton turning into Back Lane just before the Crematorium. Follow Back Lane, it is a partial single track lane with passing places not suitable for large vehicles. Pass the Cunneries Fishery and turn right into the farm 150 metres on your right.
