Council tenants helping to improve their environment Our Housing Department has an annual budget which allows us to carry out external improvements around council homes. This is spent on large scale projects such as providing additional car parking spaces or landscaping communal gardens. We also have an annual ÂŁ20,000 environmental improvements budget, which is spent on smaller projects to improve communal areas, such as additional planting of flowers or trees and providing seating areas. Tenants are invited to suggest external or environmental improvements they would like to happen. They can submit proposals via their local tenants and residents association, Area Housing Officer, or Scheme Manager (if they live in a sheltered scheme) or by completing an

online form at: www.lewes.gov.uk/housing/20404.asp To be considered for funding from next year’s budget, proposals for external improvements should be submitted by the end of December 2013 and environmental improvement proposals by the end of February 2014. Consultation with people living near proposed projects will be undertaken to ensure the idea has the support of the local community. A Housing Consultative Panel of tenants and councillors is responsible for approving the environmental improvement budget and overseeing the external improvements programme. A tour of the proposed projects is held in the spring to enable the panel to agree which projects to approve for the coming year.
