About this book This book helps children acquire basic dictionary skills in a friendly and enjoyable way. The dictionary can be used for learning about the alphabet and alphabetical order, how to locate words, check spellings, find simple definitions of words and learn how to use a word in the context of a simple phase or sentence. The unique feature of this first dictionary is the way the Letterland characters and stories guide your child. The a-z characters are shown at the top of each page. By just starting to pronounce a character’s name, such as ‘a…’ (Annie Apple) or ‘sss...’ (Sammy Snake) a child automatically says the correct letter sound for the words on that page. Stars indicate decodable words. These contain the letters in their most phonically regular form, making them an ideal focus for beginner readers.
