On November 23, 1951, the then Manila Archbishop Gabriel D. Reyes decreed the dismembering of portions of the parochial territories of the Sacred Heart (Kamuning) and Immaculate Conception (Parish, now Cathedral of Cubao) and creating a new parish under the title “San Jose de Quezon City” a Patron Saint of Workers as declared by the Catholic church -- as the spiritual model of the parish community since Quezon City’s old name was Barrio

”Obrero” which translates to “worker”. St. Joseph Parish which we called "Saint Joseph Shrine" now, was the first Parish in Quezon City to be named after St. Joseph.
