Because E-zines rely heavily on your photography skills to make them look great, we need your work to be beautifully photographed and edited. Hello ! I am Eri Kanai. I live in Osaka in Japan with my husband and three children. I am currently expecting our 4th child in July! I started scrapbooking in 2009 to help me commemorate my marriage and the memories of my children. Thank you Let’s Get Sketchy for featuring me, I am very excited!!
I started scrapbooking in……………………. And children are born, and more cute pictures of my cute child From a desire left to decorate, it began. My scrap item(s) must have are/is…….. Photograph of a child, of course, if there is enough cute paper. What I love most about this hobby……………………. And time of healing. I like the feeling that they make while remember the moment that I took, you can share that time again, and the children of that moment, that enables dialogue again. Favorite source of inspiration……. I like My Minds Eye, Simple Stories and Echo Park paper. What I love most about LGS is........ Inspiration and design team, challenge fans to participate, makes to stimulate the production of my motivation. If I wasn't scrapping I would be.......... Growth photo of the child remains in the data. It may have already disappeared unawares. To think a state that is not a scrapbooking is horrible.

Photographing our layouts for our blogs and E-zine submissions to help them look their best is very important, but not overly difficult. I am by no means a camera wizard, I do own a Canon Rebel but really only know how to use a couple of functions so the following tips will be completely at a beginner’s level. That said you do not require a fancy camera, any digital model will do. Nor do you require any specialized photography software. To start with, wait for a good photography day, and by this I mean the sun should be out. Artificial light leaves your photos grainy and dark, it also changes the colours of the products that you are using. I often wait until I have a pile of pages and photograph them when I have lovely morning sun I know this may not work for some schedules, so fit it in when you have good natural light. Not only will you have better photos you will have less editing to do, too. Now get your camera ready, turn off the flash and make sure you are taking a large photo, as large as you can. I set my camera to the largest setting possible. Turn it to “Auto,” and turn off the flash. This makes for a nice crisp photo that helps to showcase any dimension or texture on my layout. The next step is to place your layout on the ground where the light is good, but not in direct sunlight. I typically photograph my pages in my front entrance way. I can open the door to get good light but the sun is above the house so there are no harsh shadows. I do not have the space or budget for a photo booth, so this works well for me. Stand directly over your layout and line it up in the view finder or screen of your camera so that your layout is square with 3 of the four sides of the screen. It takes a little finagling the first time or two but you will get skilled at this really quickly.
Your camera screen should look something like the photo on the right. Leaving even a little more space around your photo may make it even easier to square things up. Next, hold your breath and snap! You may even want to take a few photos to have options. Don’t worry if you get a toe or two in the shot, as long as nothing is overhanging the layout, like the belt of your robe, yes I have done that! Once you have uploaded your photos onto your computer, it is time to do a little editing. I use Windows Live Photo Gallery, it came free with my computer and is super easy to use, but there are several free online options as well, like Picasa and PicMonkey. This is what my editing software looks like in use. To the right of the photo you will see tools like “straighten”, you can use this to tweak your photo if it is slightly off square. By clicking on the drop down menu below the “crop” tool, you can choose “proportion” and then “square”, this will allow you to get a perfectly square photo. If you are having difficulty lining up your edges, you may need to crop your page just a little inside the outer edges, that’s okay! Next, use the “adjust exposure” tools to tweak your page. I like to up the “shadows” a bit, increase the “contrast” and “brightness” a fair amount and reduce the “highlights” a bit. I also use this program to resize my photo to about 600x600, which is perfect for blogging and E-zines. Another hint is to make a copy of your favourite photo, before editing, that way if you do not like the changes that you have made you can start over again. At the end of the day, the photography of your layout can mean the difference of your submission getting published or not, so it is definitely worth the time to learn these skills and put them to good use.
