KALEED RASHEED Ontario PC Candidate

DIPIKA DAMERLA, Ontario Liberal Candidate

By Issac Shiff

AMIR S. ALI, WARD 7 COUNCILOR CANDIDATE

Signs are integral part of the election campaigns internationally as well as in Canada. Signs bring votes most strategists confirm. Interestingly, during current provincial elections most signs are placed against the sign-bylaws enforced by the local government. But, the City of Mississauga is ignoring it, they are not removed yet nor sent to the trash as they normally do plus impose fines. The reason could be shortage of manpower and resources. Moreover, some signs are installed out of the constituency boundary. For example, a sign of Ontario PC Candidate Kaleed Rasheed, running for re-election in Mississauga East - Cooksville is placed at the intersection of Duke of York and Webb Drive. That intersection falls in Mississauga Centre riding. This is not something like 2011 famous Robocalls issue, it is surely a mistake by a volunteer because Burnhamthorpe is the edge of Ward 7 and volunteers often get confused with it. Cooksville ends at Central Park Drive.

Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horwath visits Peel By Editha Hughes

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is actively campaigning throughout Ontario through large meetings, corner meetings and townhalls. ISNA, the largest Muslim association in North America arranged a townhall with Andrea to answer questions from public. Almost all the NDP candidates running in Mississauga and Brampton were in attendance. In attendance with Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh Andrea Horwath attended a big rally in Brampton that brought together over 1,000 supporters determined to elect an NDP government that will put people first and fix what matters most.

Municipal elections are also called and for Ward 7, so far only Amir S. Ali, who has contributed many columns and articles on different topics has been registered as a candidate. Ward 7 is assembled with 3-piece puzzle, one taken from Mississauga Center, one from Mississauga East and one from Mississauga Lakeshore. This ward is the residence of large number of renters.

Coming back to Mississauga East – Cookville, the contest between the candidates is tough. Incumbent PC candidate Kaleed Rasheed is contesting with former Liberal MP and Minister of Seniors Affairs, Dipika Damerla, NDP candidate Khawar Hussain and Ontario Green candidate James Hea. The race is too close to predict a winner.
