The Luminaire Instructor: Troy M. Malmstrom
You can’t study the darkness by flooding it with light... — Edward Abbey The prototype is a critical stage in the design and fabrication process. It’s the means by which a conceptual idea takes a physical form. My luminaire explores the pontentials that exist within the fabrication world when a chosen material and given processes result in an unexpected assemblage. Utilizing the simple concept of a lamp, I explored these design concepts, generating the fabrication process, and producing the final entity.
doubly curved surface Instructor: Kyle Reynolds The DCS exercise focuses on the role that representation plays in producing instructions for fabrication, in both a digital and manual manner. I produced an egg crate model of my doubly curved surface by giving it thickness, contouring it, placing interlocking cutouts, laser cutting and reassembling it into an approximation of the original surface.
Ouro Preto’s First Indoor Swimming Pool Instructor: Clecio Magalhaes do Vale
An urban diagnosis of Ouro Preto Minas Gerais - Brazil, seeking to identify situations demanding architectural interventions within the options proposed by the discipline. I analyzed general themes while considering location, conditions of use, accessibility, a target audience and other aspects such as Urban Mobility, Health/Wellness Collective, Education, Culture, Tourism, Leisure and Environment. Conception and Strategies Created to be a public attraction in Ouro Preto, the public indoor swimming pool is unique in the city. Projected to be a hot water pool, due to the mild climate of the city, it has solar panels to heat the water. The main building’s position on the ground is strategically designed to be illuminated by the sun during the morning and afternoon. The complex also has a parking lot, soccer field, locker rooms, gardens, handicap accessible ramps, a snack bar and a sporting goods store. Construction System Precast Concrete
