Dr. Kim’s research interests focus on how school leadership and educational reforms affect teachers’ instructional practices and students’ learning; and how these environments affect teachers’ lives as professionals, such as their burnout levels, turnover, professional learning, motivation, commitment, and social networks.

Dr. Kong’s research interests focus on social inequities in education including family-school relationships, child and youth welfare, and gender and education in East Asia. Dr. Kong recently published a book entitled Parenting, education, and social mobility in Rural China: Raising dragons and phoenixes, illuminating the invisible ways rural parents are involved in their children’s schooling.
