Recommendation Letter 21 Oct 2016
To Whom It May Concern: It is my great pleasure to write this letter to support my former student Peng Li for a position at your studio, as he has been an excellent student this year. I have known Peng since September 2015 as unit tutor of Research Cluster 16, Urban Design of the Bartlett school of architecture. During the 2015/2016 academic year, Peng showed a strong ability of logical thinking and a good understanding of concept in their thesis project. He and his group pursued an exceptional and challenging design research, their project was rated the highest mark and distinction in our cluster. I am completely satisfied with Peng's adaptability and his ability to ensure the progress of their project. His contribution to their project has been very valuable. Based on these abilities and his positive attitude, I am happy to support Peng application to your practice as I believe he will make a great contribution to his future working environment. Do not hesitate to contact me would you have other questions. Best regards,

The microbial cellulose project is a materialoriented bio-ecological urban design project, which aims to propose a long-term urban waste cycle strategy and to reorganise the urban landscape network. It is conducted from micro-scale to macroscale: from microorganisms 'Acetobacterxylinum' to the city London.
City of London Barnet Barking
This design proposes a self-proliferated community which is an urban waste digestive organs system. With time, more and more waste will be digested by the community, thus more and more cellulose will be produced to be used for new constructs. The community grows and expands, influencing the nearby environment and people’s behaviours with the use of different spatial forms. In the long term, this community will consist of real-time feedback that the microorganisms give to the city.

The project Taihu Lake Crown offers an opportunity to express the city of Suzhou's culture, background and innovation by creating a new financial cluster along the Taihu lake. In this project, the concept of four skyscrapers, designed as an image of crystal crown, defines the buildings themselves and also gives them a new symbol and icon of the city. In addition, the design of facade is based on the Suzhou's traditional weaving technique, with the integration of surrounding environment. It creats a different architectural texture, expressing the heritage and understanding of Chinese ancient culture. The design of lanscape is to create a green and water-rich urban environment, make the natural envionment of Taihu lake surround the building cluster.

City New Portal Shanghai Jiantao Plaza (under construction) Professional work, 2012 Location: Shanghai, China Cooperator: Aedas Develop design concept, finish the construction drawings and details design
Zhujiabang is a waterfront leisure space in Shanghai Changning District. It connects with the south block together to form the main activity axis and walk street. This project is located on the axis of Hongqiao fifth avenue, which is one of the three important square nodes. To strengthen the axis of whole city, it's better to create a portal. It can promote the portal impression of the whole city. Furthermore, it can be a new typical landmark.

Open space solar access study For open space, the space with less solar access hours can be used for outdoor activity area to avoid overheating. For landscape design, the solar access hours indicate the appropriate locations for vegetation and water features. Some species require more sunshine but some require less.

Urban wind environment analysis
1. Summer prevailing wind of Shanghai is predominated by south eastern wind. 2. It is the key design consideration to allow more sea breeze penetration in summer time to enhance the natural ventilation and thermal comfort. 3. Taller buildings and reduced footprint can allow more greenery space to make the space cooler and more comfortable.

Time Axis Art museum design Academic work, 2010 Competition work Location: Shenzhen, China Cooperator: Pengzhi Ling Tutors: Qin Liao, Zhiqing Zhao
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the important changes have been seen in Chinese art, which are not only the changes of artistic concepts and styles, but also the whole artistic ecological structure. In particular, art galleries, art market and art auctions become active. Art galleries as the carrier of art can make a variety of events and activities happen in this place through the integration of various functions and the infiltration of space. The strategy of this project is to stimulate the vitality of the venue through the activities of people. It will create a high open space that art exhibition, trade and performances can occur at the same time. Thus, it can stimulate the potentials of various activities. We hope that after the completion of art museum, it will stimulate the vitality of the entire village and drive the development of local art and culture.

The Inversion of Village in City Community design Academic work, 2007 Independent work Tutor: Qin Liao
During the reconstruction progress of old town, every district would run into the contradiction of the preservation and destruction of traditional buildings in China. The reconstruction of old town can be said that urban builders have an operation on the city and then achieve the urban virtuous interaction of the blocks functions, and make the whole city full of vitality. In this project, we are trying to explore a newstyle solution. In this kind of place, residents can experience the convenience of new life style. At the same time, the neighbours before can still be neighbours in the future. Residents there can have a visit from house to house like before. They will no longer be besieged by the trouble of demolition. This is the new-style architectural concept i present here - the inversion of village in city.
Concept diagram Traditional communication space is completed by below definition, however, the current unit housing segregates this pattern. Therefore, we are going to redefine the bottom public space.

Drawings of different plans These are function plans of several housing, we can find that their functions are simple when they are separated, but pretty interesting when they are connected with each other.
These communal housing, expending from the ground layer to the top, are assemblage of some special functions. It can easily reached and always be setted in convenient place.
