Q&A AUBREY DAQUINAG, FOUNDER OF THE LOVE ASSEMBLY SHARES HER SECRETS OF HOW TO MAKE WINTER WONDERFUL. Photography: Paul Serra & Aubrey Daquinag for The Love Assembly

What is your favourite winter trend? Layers upon layers, a big coat, snuggly scarves and white on white. Winter skin secret? Drink lots of water and moisturise well... Although that’s pretty much for all year round! My face gets a little more dry during winter though so I use a moisturiser that’s more hydrating, my favourite is Lait-Crème Concentré by Embryolisse that I discovered on my recent trip to Paris.

LAYERS UPON LAYERS, A BIG COAT, SNUGGLY SCARVES AND WHITE ON WHITE

Where do you like to escape to in winter? I actually don’t mind the cold but somewhere tropical to beat the temporary chill is always a nice escape. Winter scent? Carven Le Parfum that I received as a gift for my birthday this year and Dries Van Noten par Frederic Malle that I have just recently fallen in love with. Who is your style icon? I’m really attracted to effortless simplicity. I love Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Sofia Coppola and Elin Kling’s sense of style. What are you reading? I’m actually on the hunt for a new book to read! Any suggestions? What’s on your playlist? I kind of get caught up into this little world for a while where the only songs on my playlist change from soundtrack to soundtrack of a film I recently just watched and loved - I’m kind of weird and cheesy like that. But you can usually find Phoenix, The Middle East, Cloud Control, Rudimental, Pharrell Williams, Bon Iver and Lana Del Rey on there too. Favourite winter destination? I’ve only really experienced winter in Sydney and it doesn’t get super cold like other cities would (-1 say what?!) so I guess it isn’t all that bad. Must-have winter accessory? There’s a few must-haves I think! A good coat, big scarf and ankle boots.

BEAUTY

Q&A

EMMILY BANKS, FREELANCE MAKEUP ARTIST, BASED IN SYDNEY. Photography:

What is your favourite makeup trend at the moment? Flawless glowing skin (highlighters and dewy foundation), groomed thick strong eyebrows with bold coloured lips (corals, organge, red). Strong yet effortlessly simple look. Ultimate skin secret? Most Importantly, its what goes into your body that counts the most! Fresh juice, plenty of filtered water, fruit, vegetables and exercise will keep your skin radiant and smooth. External secrets of mine include rosehip oil and raw organic coconut oil to moisturize the face and body. These nourishing oils will keep your skin feeling and looking smooth.. and you will smell delicious, bonus! Clarins Beauty Flash Balm underneath foundation is also fabulous for the complextion! 05

Where do you like to escape to in winter? I live right on the beach in Bondi and winter is the best time of year at home! Quiet streets and cafes with only the locals around, beautiful sunsets and the ocean at my doorstep – winning! If I holiday, it would definitely be Bali, Fiji or somewhere tropical with beach, sun, sand and plenty relaxation. Your current scent/fragrance? I’m loving my natural earthy, zesty and fruity fragrances at the moment. I moisturize with coconut oil then I use organic natural sprays – lavender, fresh lime and lemon. I also use an aromatherapy oil with jojoba, jasmine, rose and patchouli. YUM. Who is your style icon? I don’t have just one person that I look up to. I like to think that I like what I like but no doubt my super stylish friends, plus all of the stylists, fashion bloggers and designers I work with on shoots influence me. They’re all style icons really. If I were to be specific, I generally like classic fashion with a touch of boho.

What are you reading? I love “Body and Soul/ Self help” inspirational books that are relevant to my life and being a happy healthy person and achieving my goals. My book shelf consists of Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay, Richard Branson type books; Think and Grow Rich, Heal Your Life, The Secret, Positive Energy, The Ph Miracle, etc. I love them all so much! What’s on your playlist? I need some new music! My pre-loved playlist consists of The xx, Florence & The Machine, Hermitude, Rodriguez and Willis. I also love my workout/running music, Booka Shade, Surecut Kids, even The Prodigy (it really gets me going hard! Haha) Favourite holiday destination? Anywhere that has crystal clear ocean, sand, sunshine and friendly locals.. oh and DELICOUS food is a must. Santorini is amazing, Fiji and Bali are also beautiful. ;)

Favourite city to spend winter? I haven’t travelled extensively, but if its Winter I would probably chose to stay in Bondi or go back home where I grew up to the Gold Coast or Byron Bay – QLD weather is really tropical, winter is really mild... it barely gets cold! So basically, I chose Summer all year round.. ;) What are you currently working on, exciting projects you have locked in for Spring/Summer? I’m really excited to launch my new Beauty blog/website, its not going to be mainstream Makeup and Beauty.. I’m going to look into and share my knowledge about all organic makeup, skincare and beauty products that are nourishing and good for your skin, i.e no nasty chemicals or animal testing. I’m also working on a brand called “The Summer of” with my sister, we’re still in the development processes but it will revolve around all things Summer – beauty, fashion, health and fitness. EXCITING TIMES AHEAD. *Watch this space.

Must-have winter accessory? Scarf’s! They keep you so warm and can completely change and dress up an outfit! 06

HOMIES The Homies tees are a signature sport luxe style that have been a celeb favourite this season. Miley rocked the Homies logo on a black long-sleeved sweatshirt. Rihanna and Christina Milian followed in February, with Milian choosing the T-shirt version The Homies brand has been a hit. It depicts a ghetto guy standing next to his tricked-out truck above the logo with the words South Central below it.

MOHAIR The first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word mohair – it’s a sweater; in the new season the sweater made of this fashionable material was present in the collection of almost every designer. Perfect for our US customers, the trend you want to rock when the chill hits.

ANIMAL Animal prints play off the idea of women being vixenish, wild, and fierce,” says Steele. So it’s no surprise that fashionistas have been spotted in the prints since the cave-dwelling days though the trend is most strongly identified with the 50s and 60s, when it was favored by sultry pinup girls, like Bettie Paige and Ann-Margret.
