tradition of excellence, rigor and determination can at times be overwhelming. You just have to take it in stride and realize, as they constantly repeat to you: "There is

Yale By Hugo Lieber

Yale University, established in 1701, is one the most highly regarded universities in the United States and indeed in the world. It is one of eight U.S. universities that make up the "Ivy League", which originally was an athletic association and has since developed into a designation of a prestigious group of institutions mostly located in New England. Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale College of course excels in the usual areas of literature, social sciences and applied science, but is also highly regarded for its music and drama programs, which have given bir th to theatre groups and the famous a cappella singing group the Yale Whiffenpoofs. Upon their initial arrival at Yale, freshman are randomly assigned to one of the 12 residential colleges, which will be their home during their four-year stay. A master and a dean live in each residential college, eating in the same dining halls as the students. In October 2012, EABJM was honored to welcome Jeffrey Brenzel, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, for a presentation about applying to Yale. In November, Mr Brenzel stepped down as Admissions Dean, but chose to continue as master of Timothy Dwight College and to return to teaching philosophy at Yale. When asked what she thought of Yale, Liza Lebedev, EABJM class of 2012, commented that “the pros of Yale lie in its close-knit community and excellent education. People here are intelligent - every single person here has something interesting about him and her. I would say what I love most is how, while you do encounter certain arrogant over-achievers, most of the student population has a humble, and just plain nice, attitude towards everything. The cons concern mainly the pressure that such an institution places on you: the

no perfect Yale student.” Other Yale students have mentioned that the town is not ideal, but who would sacrifice an amazing education in a Hogwarts-like campus for a better location? A reminder to any potential candidates: Yale College accepts 7.7% of applicants, so good luck!
