Couples Share a Burning Love for League City

Meet five couples who serve our community as volunteer firefighters

Keeping the love fires burning with your significant other can be a challenge, especially with work, home, and family obligations. However, for five League City couples, they’ve found a new way to heat things up in their relationship— by serving as League City volunteer firefighters. Three joined the department as couples, saying serving together has rekindled their bond and love of community. The other two say the sparks first began at the fire station.

Rick Elizondo & Emmy Rubio

Number of years you’ve been a firefighter?

Rick 14 years, Emmy 4 years.

Where did you meet? Station 2 in League City.

What makes your partner hot?

Bunker Gear! LOL

What do you love most about LCVFD? Being part of a group/organization that makes a difference in people’s lives.

Mike Hester Jr. & Carly Wells

Number of years you’ve been a firefighter? Mike 8 years, Carly 1 year.

How long have you been together? 2 years. Where did you meet? I was visiting a friend at Station 2 who was a volunteer firefighter and was invited to join the crew for lunch. I ended up sitting next to Mike and things just clicked. Soon after I joined LCVFD as a support member and later decided to go through the fire academy.

Dan & Karrie Parada

Number of years you’ve been a firefighter?

Dan 7 years, Karrie 2 years.

How long have you been together?

19 years, we‘ve been married 16.

Where did you meet? The Katy Rice Festival, Dan was the driver of a float that my son and I were riding on.

Erin & Brayton Lee

Number of years you’ve been a firefighter? Erin 8 years, Brayton 9 years.

How long have you been together with your partner?18 years, we are high school sweethearts.

What is the best part about serving together at LCVFD? I enjoy seeing him in his element. I like seeing her grow in an environment that’s not her specialty. Plus we get to spend time together! How do you keep the love burning? Making an effort to try things the other person enjoys. We always want to keep learning and growing.

Dan and Deb Bly

How long have you been a firefighter? Deb 27 years, Dan 21 years.

Hong long have you been together? 40 years

What makes your partner hot? Their compassion for serving others.

When was the first spark?

It was love at first sight. Within two days we were engaged and married three months later.

What do you love most about being a member of the LCVFD? The reward of being in public service, as well as gaining a family of those who give back just as much as we do.
