WINTER STORM WATER USE
During the height of the February storm, League City’s water use increased from 10 million gallons a day to almost 25 million. This is the largest single day use in the City’s history and is 20 percent higher than any single day use ever. This huge increase was due in part to customers dripping water from faucets to prevent pipes from freezing, but also from the thousands of homes, apartments, and businesses that experienced broken pipes and leaks after temperatures warmed up. The League City Utility Billing Department was instrumental in identifying leaks using the City’s automated meter reading equipment to determine the addresses with abnormally high water consumption. Line repair staff were then dispatched to shut off the water meter or close the main water valve to the home or business. This proved to be an extremely effective tool for preventing further water loss and limited the damage to many homes.
Check Your April Bill
Due to League City’s delayed billing cycle, most utility billing customers will not see the impacts of the winter storm until their April bill. For a homeowner who ran their faucets on a slow drip over several days, they will likely see anywhere from a $30 to $50 increase on their bill.

The ordinance allows the League City Utility Billing Department to provide a bill adjustment once every 12 months.
