Remember, to nominate an individual for any LM program send their name, title, company, email, phone, and reason for nomination to Tori Taylor, Vice president at ttaylor@leadershipmemphis.org or (901) 278-0016. 2015 SUCCESS HIGH SCHOOLS INDUCTION CEREMONIES The Leadership Memphis SUCCESS High Schools IInitiative has been implemented into eight high schools East, Fairley, George Washington Carver, Hamilton, Kingsbury, Kirby, Melrose and Trezevant - with the goal to increase the post-secondary continuation rate for these schools. In the 2014-2015 school year, SUCCESS impacted over 750 students and is designed to strengthen student success and guide their decision related to a post-secondary pursuit of enrollment in a 4-year or 2-year college, a career path accessed through technical training or enlistment in the military. Of those 750 students over 97% completed the FAFSA and or TN Promise applications. The 2016 Executives have not only taken on the challenge of educating and empowering our next generation. They have taken ownership of finding ways to bridge the gap between opportunities and resources for our SUCCESS students. Overall, SUCCESS encourages teens to pursue a certificate or degree beyond high school, providing guidance and resources for better jobs and brighter futures. This will help close the economic gap of unskilled workers within the City of Memphis. This year the 8 SUCCESS high schools saw a +2% higher FAFSA completion rate and a +7.5% higher TN Promise completion compared to SCS district wide.

URBAN CHILD INSTITUTE & MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES FOUNDATION

Since 2011, Leadership Memphis has been a partner with both the Urban Child Institute and the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation. With the partnership, Leadership Memphis has been able to help expand the reach of the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation Team Up Mentoring program and the Urban Child Institute throughout the Memphis community. A portion of the deliverables for the Leadership Memphis FastTrack and Grassroots programs, program participants are asked to host community convening’s for both the Urban Child Institute and the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation’s Team Up Mentoring. Since the beginning of these partnerships that began over 4 years ago, participants have assisted with bringing over 1,000 Memphians together to promote and educate the importance of the Grizzlies mentoring program and early childhood education and development for the Urban Child Institute. These Memphians may not only partake in these initiatives, but become strong advocates for these great organizations. The Memphis Grizzlies Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to harnessing the power and promise of sport to transform lives, particularly those of children living at risk. As the philanthropic arm of the Grizzlies organization, the Foundation is focused on finding, funding and creating youth development programs in Memphis that help students discover and meet their potential. For more information about becoming a mentor in the Grizzles Foundation Team Up Mentoring Program visit: www.grizzliesfoundation.org The Urban Child Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and well-being of children from conception to age three in Memphis and Shelby County, Tennessee. STEP UP SPOTLIGHT:

COMMUNITY LEADERS IGNITE CHANGE IN MEMPHIS Through our 37 years of preparing and mobilizing leaders to work together for the good of the whole community, Leadership Memphis has fostered relationships and provided community leadership programs to over 3,000 alumni. Each year, we are blown away by the conversations and commitments made between classes, the conversations held before and after alumni engagement events, and the power of Leadership Memphis as the common thread. Ultimately, we will be known by the problems we solve and as Memphis continues to shine and prosper through its grinding community eager to make Memphis an even greater place. We want to highlight some alumni who’ve stepped up to advance both our organization and the community as a whole. We celebrate our alumni receiving distinguished honors, career changes, and stepping up in our community and encourage alumni to use the #StepUp4Memphis hashtag to share alumni accomplishments. If you would like to add your accomplishment or community involvement activity to our website, or are not currently receiving our weekly e-newsletter, The Weekly Leader, please email Senior Director of Community and Alumni Engagement, Jared Bulluck, at jbulluck@leadershipmemphis.org. LISA DROKE, EP 2009 SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AT THE COTTON BOARD

Lisa Droke is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at the Cotton Board. She received her BBA and her MBA at the University of Memphis and became a CPA in 1995. Ms. Droke was with Harrah’s Entertainment and its predecessor companies for twenty two years eventually rising to the position of Vice President and Controller, Corporate Group. In 2009, Ms. Droke joined the Cotton Board. She became the organization’s first Senior Vice President in 2014. In 2011, she was a finalist for the Memphis Business Journal’s CFO of the Year award. Lisa first got involved when she happily accepted a nomination from her former employer to the Leadership Memphis Executive Program in 2009. She knew very little about the organization at that time, so going through the program was a wonderful learning experience and she became a strong believer in Leadership Memphis and the City of Memphis. Mrs. Droke was asked to serve on the Board in 2013 and said “being part of a great organization and a great Board has been an honor and a privilege.” Lisa has taken on financial responsibilities for Leadership Memphis and is the Finance Chair for Leadership Memphis.

Leadership Memphis creates an “in their space” approach to introducing element and issues of Memphis that could be bypassed if they didn’t create opportunities for leaders from all walks of life to participate, therefore influencing change throughout our city in unique places that may typically go untouched.” Thank you Ephie, for your leadership in the Memphis community.

MEMPHIS TALENT DIVIDEND

SHELBY COUNTY STUDENTS HELP TENNESSEE LEAD NATION IN FAFSA COMPLETION On November 11th, 2015 over 50 partners joined The Memphis Talent Dividend in its last quarterly meeting of the 2015 calendar year. During this quarterly meeting, the Memphis Talent Dividend hosted Caroline Altman Smith, Senior Program Officer for the Kresge Foundation to discuss the best ways to promote college access and success for minority and disadvantage students. Caroline also discussed different areas the Kresge Foundation has been funding in the Memphis community including the Memphis Talent Dividend, Community LIFT, and IOBY by contributing over $3 million the past few years. The Kresge foundation has looked at the needs for education and reported that by 2020, 65% of all jobs will require training & education beyond high school. Ms. Smith highlighted the work that the Memphis Talent Dividend and its partners are doing to increase post-secondary attainment in Shelby County by moving the needle each year. Following Ms. Smith from the Kresge Foundation, Mark Sturgis, Executive Director of Seeding Success, presented a report regarding the current percentages with our TN Promise and FAFSA completion rates. Mr. Sturgis announced that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) sky rocketed to an 88% completion rate of all high school seniors in Shelby County which is a 23% increase from the previous year’s completion rate. In addition to this milestone, over 7,000 seniors have completed the TN Promise, which is about 71% of Shelby County School seniors. Leadership Memphis and the Memphis Talent Dividend would like to thank all of the partners, colleges, and community members for taking a stance to increase postsecondary attainment in Shelby County. VOLUNTEER MEMPHIS

UNITED WAY INVESTS $100,000 IN VOLUNTEER MEMPHIS United Way of the Mid-South and Leadership Memphis announced a formal partnership and Catalyst Fund grant of $100,000 to strengthen Volunteer Memphis, a powerful mechanism for volunteerism and change makers in the Mid-South. Volunteer Memphis at www.volunteermemphis.org is working to increase volunteer engagement, make it easier for people to find opportunities to volunteer, and strengthen the ability of local nonprofits to recruit, manage, and retain volunteers. Powered by United Way of the Mid-South, Volunteer Memphis is working to engage volunteers for greater impact every day. “Transforming Memphis and the Mid-South to make it an even better place to live and work requires tremendous resources, and the power of volunteers is a critical resource in this effort. So often we think of community resources simply in terms of dollars, but when people are dedicating their time, energy, passions and expertise they make a huge impact on people’s lives and our quality of living. This partnership and the convenience of volunteermemphis.org help us increase public access to volunteer opportunities and track volunteer activity more effectively. It provides a valuable service to nonprofits, individuals, organizations, and companies wishing to engage the power of people to make a difference where help is truly needed,” said Dr. Kenneth S. Robinson, President/CEO of United Way of the Mid-South. Volunteer Memphis has committed to generating 1,000,000 volunteer hours this year. With the help of the Corporate Volunteer Council (see below) and you, we will reach our goal. To find volunteer opportunities of to list your volunteer opportunities, visit www.volunteermemphis.org.
