years. He’s seen me through a whole list of injuries and ailments I don’t even want to think about, and has helped me manage the high cholesterol I inherited from my father’s side of the family. So now I have to find a new doctor—and just as I’m about to retire myself!
Huan’s Story Head Custodian
Have I mentioned that I dislike change? There’s been so much of it in my life. I’d really like to just go on and on as things are. But that’s not going to happen. Just the other day, for example, I got word that my doctor is retiring. I know that doesn’t sound like a big change to most people, but Dr. Wilson has been our doctor for almost twenty
As it turns out, I have a lot of help to draw on. Natalie showed me how to search for a new doctor on the Cigna website. I’m going to zero in on a physician who has a Cigna Care Designation. Natalie said this means a doctor whose record of quality, cost-efficient care is especially good. Of course, I’ll choose a doctor who will also continue with my free Cigna physicals and preventive care.

In the meantime, I can continue to keep an eye on my own good health by keeping up with my free LCPS biometric screenings and by calling on the Cigna Personal health team if I have any concerns. Which brings me to my own retirement. End of the school year, that’s when I’ve told Willow Creek I’m going to hang up my ladder and retire. Again, I thought this was going to mean a huge learning curve (on top of plenty of change), but once again, there’s lots of help out there for me. Kali is going to join me for a 2018 retiree paperwork forum, and help me review my retirement forms. Combined with the steps we’ve already taken, I’m pretty confident we’ll be in good shape as we move on to this next period of life. I’m actually counting on our tax picture to change once I retire, and for the better.
I’ll look into that. But first Donate things first: I Live-Saving have to focus Blood p24 on our ’17 taxes in the next couple of weeks, HSA forms, W-2s, 1095s, pretty sure I have them all. One thing that never has to change, though, is the circle of friends I have here at Willow Creek. I’ll keep showing up for events, like the fun runs. In fact, there’s one coming up soon—a Superhero 5K Run/ Walk. Kali and I will both be there, on the sidelines this year, cheering on Natalie and Melissa. That’s what really counts, after all: friends and family. We help each other through all kinds of change, happy and challenging, which I think makes every day easier—or as Natalie would say, way more laughs.

preventive care services? What are
Through Cigna
Understanding
Preventive Care
Health
Preventive care services are provided during a wellness exam. You and your doctor will determine what tests and health screenings are right for you. The screenings are based on your: • Age • Gender • Personal health history • Current health You don’t need to have symptoms or be diagnosed with a health issue to receive preventive care services. In fact, your visit would not likely be classified as a wellness exam if you are symptomatic and have a diagnosis associated with the visit. However, a flu shot is given to prevent the flu. Other services like mammograms help detect illnesses when there aren’t any symptoms. Even if you’re in the best shape of your life, a serious condition with no symptoms may put your health at risk—and is likely able to be identified in a routine wellness exam.
What isn’t a
preventive care service? During your wellness exam, you may receive services that are not considered preventive care services. For example, if your doctor determines that you have a medical issue and you have additional screenings, tests or procedures done after a diagnosis is made, this is no longer considered preventive. These services will be considered under your plan’s medical benefits, not your preventive care benefits. This means you may be responsible for paying a different share of the cost than you do for preventive care services.
Questions? Talk with your doctor or call Cigna at the toll-free number on the back of your ID card. Click here for a list of services and supplies that are considered “preventive care” under the Cigna plan.

Taking the
Guesswork out of Choosing Doctors The Cigna Care Designation helps take some of the guesswork out of choosing a doctor. Using standard, industry-accepted measures and information, Cigna does an evaluation of its network doctors in 18 of the most common specialties, including three primary care specialties. Their results show doctors who have a proven history of achieving good quality outcomes, while also being cost effective. Doctors with top results earn the Cigna Care Designation. Cigna makes it easy to find doctors who have achieved top results by adding the Cigna Care Designation symbol to the online provider directory. The directory can be
accessed through www.myCigna.com. The directory also includes a variety of quality and cost information to help you make more informed decisions about your doctors, pay reasonable prices for your care and improve your health. Once a doctor earns the Cigna Care Designation, Cigna shows the results in their online health care directory. Specifically they: • Show the Cigna Care Designation symbol. • Show one or more quality symbols the doctor has earned. • Rank doctors for cost-efficient care using stars, with three stars being the highest rating

A note from Human Resources and Talent Development:
Just the Facts:
Licensed Employees—Did you know? LCPS has a goal of retaining our high performing team of professionals focused on our mission and goals; however, life plans and circumstances sometimes do not allow a staff member to return. If you let your principal or supervisor know as soon as you know that, you are not planning to return to your position next year, your students benefit. Highly qualified candidates often find positions quickly, and research shows the number of candidates in teacher education programs is declining.
How does retirement or resignation before August affect my pay and benefits?
IT DOESN’T.
The good news is you do not have to wait until August to let your Principal or Supervisor know you are resigning or retiring. When you know you are planning to relocate, end your employment in education, or retire at the completion of your current contract, you can fill out the voluntary separation paperwork. You can opt for your summer pay and health insurance to continue through part of the summer as if you were still employed, or you can opt for a lump sum payment on June 22, 2018 and still carry health insurance through August 31, 2018.
• 10-month employees (Teacher, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Attendance Officers, Instructional Facilitators for Technology, and Librarians) will get a final pay on August 3, 2018 and carry benefits through August 31, 2018. • 11-month employees (Middle School Counselors, Deans, Instructional Facilitators, Technology Education Teachers, Test Coordinators, Child Find Speech Therapists, Child Find Teachers, Assistant Athletic Directors, High School Counselors, High School Band Directors, Monroe Technology CTE teachers, Marketing Teachers (with Co-op), and Detention Center Teachers) will all be paid on July 20, 2018 and carry benefits through July 31, 2018.
What do I need to do if I plan to resign or retire at the end of the school year?
IT’S EASY
If you plan to resign or retire at the end of the school year, just ask your principal/supervisor for a Voluntary Request for Separation form. The form will ask you to indicate the last day that you intend to work.
• For 10 month employees, that’s June 15, 2018 • For most 11 month employees, that’s June 22, 2018
What should I do if I have a question? If you have a question about resignation please contact your HRTD coordinator at 571-252-1100. If your question is about retirement, please contact the Retirement and Disability office at 571-252-1690. If your question is about health insurance or other benefits, call Employee Health, Wellness and Benefits at 571-252-1810. Help LCPS find a licensed employee who will serve your students as well as you do. When you know…let your principal or supervisor know. It is that simple! 16 Wellness Works! for LCPS Employees
