This is an inspiring story that demonstrates how a young man with the initiative to help, can make a true difference. In December 2014, Alexis Antonio began a project he called ‘Por Amor a Ti’ (‘For Love to You’), with the goal of helping the children of our “Spirit of Joy” program. Thanks to Alexis and LCCF’s support, in January of 2015 a pair of pijamas was donated to each patient in the unit. These pijamas facilitate the application of their treatment and help the children be comfortable and warm during their stay at the hospital.

The cornerstone was set for the construction of the second phase of Casa Valentina. A personal milestone for former first lady of the state, Maria Helena Hernandez, Casa Valentina is a temporary home for cancer patients and their families that come from all the municipalities of Baja California Sur to receive their chemotherapy treatments at Salvatierra General Hospital in La Paz. The building was finished by September and now there is a total of 7 bedrooms for 7 patients and a family member. In a picture from the emotional opening, below is little Abril Estrella and her sister with Cruz Elizabeth, the founder of the original Casa Valentina in Culiacan, which LCCF helped put into operations back in 2007 so that the patients from Baja California Sur could stay there while they were in treatment. 25
