About Leeds College of Building ‘Leeds College of Building (LCB) delivers a comprehensive range of high quality learning opportunities related to construction and the built environment.’ We are the only specialist further and higher education construction college in the UK and we are based in one of the top cities in the country. Established in the 1960’s we have built up an enviable reputation both regionally and nationally. We deliver a wide range of courses including, Apprenticeships, further and higher education and business training. Building and construction courses are available at all levels and range from practical, work related programmes designed to prepare students for work in a variety of trades, to academic courses that will help them progress to further study. We are often commended on the high quality tuition, facilities and resources that the College provide and this is reflected in the success rates of our students. The number of students has expanded in recent years due to the high level of interest in construction and there are currently around 8,000 students enrolled at the College. There is a friendly and sociable atmosphere at all of our sites and our staff work hard to ensure students achieve their goals and receive the support and guidance needed to succeed. “91% students would recommend the College to a friend”

New LCB site ‘The College has had long standing plans to build new premises and provide first class facilities for construction education and training and finally those plans are being realised. A new building of 8000m² is being built on land just off Hunslet Lane, south of the city centre which will allow students to enjoy their studies in modern, attractive surroundings.’

Three College sites (Stourton, Parkside Lane and Lockwood Way) will close and courses that are currently delivered at these sites will move to the new building. Courses on offer will include electrical, gas, brickwork and roofing. A suite of short courses will also be delivered to personnel currently working in the industry. It is intended that the new building will be a resource itself for teaching and learning in the 21st Century, giving students the opportunity to see how services work in a live building incorporating PV panelling and biomass technology. The building will have a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’. It is a very exciting time for the College and is the first step to eventually having all provision located on two sites. The main site at North Street will be retained and it is hoped that within the next few years, the College will also be able to move courses currently delivered at the Millwright Street site onto Phase 2 of the Hunslet Lane site. The timescale for the new build is for contractors to start on site in October 2013 ready for staff and students to occupy the building in January 2015.
