Apprenticeships What is an Apprenticeship? All Apprenticeships are developed by the industry sector in which they will be used and give students the skills they need to become a craftsperson, technician or manager in that area. Depending on the course, you will either attend College one day per week or on a block basis where you will attend for between 1 and 4 weeks. The remaining time will be spent in the workplace. You will be working towards achieving an Apprenticeship Framework. An Apprenticeship is ideal if you know which career path you want to follow, but you don’t want to study in full-time education and you would like to earn a salary whilst learning.
What is an Apprenticeship Framework? As an apprentice you are required to complete the following qualifications, which make up the Apprenticeship Framework: A work based learning qualification such as a Level 2 NVQ Functional skills A knowledge based qualification such as a BTEC Diploma (Technical Certificate)
28 www.lcb.ac.uk | info@lcb.ac.uk
What is an Advanced Apprenticeship? Advanced Apprenticeships are similar to Apprenticeships but at a higher level, normally Level 3 NVQ and a higher level knowledge based qualification. Some apprentices will be registered on an Advanced Apprenticeship from day one. These include building services engineering, civil engineering, electrical, facilities management, gas installation and surveying property & maintenance.
