The Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross is in need of volunteers to serve on their Disaster Action Team. Lend a helping hand and sign up for the new volunteer orientation on Feb. 13 or Feb. 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteers will be trained to respond to all local disasters appropriately when on call. The training also qualifies volunteers to respond to national disasters as well. Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have reliable transportation. Immediate needs l Lawrence Meals on Wheels assists residents in remaining independent in their own homes as long as possible by providing food service for the aged, convalescent and/or disabled residents in Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence Meals on Wheels needs volunteers to deliver meals to the homebound during the lunch hour Monday through Friday. Volunteers can sign up to deliver on a specific day each week or be a substitute driver. Routes generally take less than an hour and can easily be done on your lunch hour. l Ten Thousand Villages-Lawrence is a nonprofit, volunteer-operated, fair trade retailer of artisan products from about forty developing countries around the world. Ten Thousand Villages creates opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to market through long-term, fair trading relationships. Volunteers are needed to work as sales associates and in the stockroom. A minimum time commitment of working two four-hour shifts per month is required.
